Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Nepean, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
All I can say is "WOW"! Not only am I extremely impressed with the look, all our neighbours are as well. In addition to the look of the new roof, all the gentlemen and lady we dealt with, from the office staff, to the sales staff, to the field manager and to those on the roof (the installation professionals), were lovely. Dedication, dedication, dedication. Thanks to all for everything! Catherine Our additional requests, especially the removal of the shingles, added a considerable amount of time to the project, which was not a concern for us, as our timeline was somewhat flexible. However, because of these additional hours/days, and the scheduled work days for the installers (i.e., time off), the project "sat" stagnant for a number of days. Better planning regarding man-hours might be a consideration for Interlock Roofing. (Installers did ensure that there were no "open/uncovered" areas on the roof, for the days they were not on-site. For Interlock Roofing (IR): I realize I am in the wrong business! After speaking with a friend (a metal worker), as well as business owners who pay for experienced labour, it appears that IR makes an excellent profit in the aluminum roofing business, after paying for the materials, shipping, labour costs, etc. IR may get more business if they reduce their profit margins on either or both materials and labour. (Example: reduce costs by 20% could lead to 30+% more clients.) I also thing that the cost associated with removing shingles is quite high. I understand that removing shingles is an extra cost for the company, i.e., time for labour to remove the shingles, cover-up of roof should it rain )and then uncovering it to work on it), clean up of the shingles, roofing paper and nails, the disposal of them, etc., but $10k is a little exorbitant. It seems that IR charges such a high rate to remove the shingles so that clients will skip the option to remove the shingles, allowing IR to save time on each project, which in turn allows them to take on more jobs each season. (There still seems to be some controversy as to whether leaving old shingles, roofing paper, ice-shield, etc. on the roof and installing other shingles (metal or asphalt) over to of them is a good idea.) One last thing, a metal roof is not always a selling feature for a home, per the realtors I spoke with before deciding to go ahead with the metal roof, unless of course the new owner gets a 45 year warranty on it, (i.e., the original home owner, which paid to have the metal roof installed, sells the home five years after installing the roof). (Not a criticism, just reality, making home owners (at least the ones we talked to) question the need to put out a small fortune to re-roof their homes in metal.) All this to say, we do love it. Just thought I would share some of the discussions we had and heard of when deciding what material we wanted to use to re-roof our home. Thanks a million and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Quality of service was poor, communication was poor, and there was a lack of quality control. We had two serious problems with the installation. 1. Interlock made a scheduling error that left our newly rebuilt roof exposed without a membrane when a massive storm was expected in the evening – we had a different contractor rush to install a temporary membrane before the storm (Interlock partially covered our costs). 2. Ridge venting was completely botched. Two visits and several emails later the ridge was finally properly vented. However, the openings on the ridges are very poorly and unevenly cut, and cut marks are visible on the new trusses b/c a reciprocating saw was used instead of a circular saw.
I was personally annoyed that Barry wasted so much time on telling us about the product we were already going to purchase.
The team was professional, courteous, friendly and committed to doing things right. I can't think of what they could have improved on.
My husband didn't get the snow stoppers put on to the roof. I do not know where I can get some good ones. I do not know if they would recommend anything like that. The ones that they have are not all that good so we did not get them.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Nepean
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Nepean, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Nepean.
How does a metal roof handle Nepean's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum sheds snow and ice cleanly because its smooth, slippery surface prevents buildup—critical in a region that averages 144 cm of snow and 89 freeze-thaw days yearly. Unlike asphalt, which traps moisture and degrades through repeated freeze-thaw stress, aluminum's oxide layer doesn't absorb water, so it stays structurally sound through countless seasonal swings. The four-way interlocking design also locks panels in place during load shifts, preventing movement and leaks when snow melts and refreezes.
Why choose aluminum instead of steel when metal roofs are compared?
Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and deteriorates. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, so it resists the corrosive effects of Nepean's 883 mm of annual rainfall without the ongoing maintenance steel demands. Add the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides, and you get 30 years of coating durability against chalking and fading, making aluminum the only metal roofing material that stays protected in wet climates without constant intervention.
Can my house support a metal roof, or will I need structural work?
No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock aluminum weighs almost nothing—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb per square foot, and even the Mediterranean Tile, which mimics heavy ceramic, weighs 96% less than real tile. This extreme lightness means you can install over most existing roofs without adding beam supports or costly framing upgrades, saving thousands in labour and materials while keeping your installation timeline short and your home's structure completely intact.
Will a metal roof stay secure in Nepean's wind gusts?
Yes, the four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far beyond Nepean's typical gusts around 92 km/h. The interlocking geometry locks each panel to its neighbours horizontally and vertically, so wind can't work panels loose or lift them like it can with shingles or traditional tile. When installed to specification, you get peace of mind through the windiest fall and spring days the region throws at you.
Does metal roofing really cut cooling costs, or is that marketing?
Metal roofing cuts cooling costs because reflective coatings bounce heat away instead of absorbing it like asphalt does. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect significant solar gain and release absorbed heat efficiently. In Nepean's 2903 annual sunshine hours, that reflection compounds across the year, lowering air-conditioning demand and utility bills—a measurable advantage backed by Cool Roof Rating Council ratings, not conjecture.
What's the hail rating, and could my insurance premium drop?
Interlock aluminum carries the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs file fewer damage claims than asphalt in hail-prone regions. Contact your insurer with the impact rating and warranty details; many carriers recognize the reduced risk and adjust premiums accordingly, offsetting part of your installation cost over time.
What exactly does Interlock's warranty cover, and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for a total of 50 years from completion—a feature that adds real resale appeal because buyers see decades of protection they don't have to pay for. No other roofing material matches this combination of permanent coverage for you and half-century peace of mind for the next household.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?
Aluminum requires almost no maintenance because it doesn't degrade, split, curl, or lose granules like asphalt does after 15-20 years in freeze-thaw climates. Tile and cedar shake demand regular resealing, underlayment replacement, and moss treatment—especially in regions like Nepean with 89 freeze-thaw days annually, where water penetrates and causes damage. Interlock's aluminum sheds water, resists UV damage through its 30-year coating warranty, and stays intact through countless seasonal swings—you rinse debris occasionally, and that's essentially it.
Is metal roofing really better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes—aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles typically end up in landfills by the millions of tons yearly. Because Interlock roofs last decades longer than asphalt, you avoid the tear-off, haul-away, and replacement cycle that drives landfill waste and consumes manufacturing resources. When your roof eventually reaches its lifespan, the aluminum returns to the recycling stream as raw material for new products, closing the loop instead of accumulating in waste sites.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Nepean, and how long have they been here?
Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the Nepean region since 1998—the same year the company began manufacturing in Delta, BC. That 25+ year track record means the local team understands Nepean's snow loads, freeze-thaw patterns, and regional weather extremes firsthand, not from a manual. They're currently offering interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on installation, making this an ideal time to call for a consultation and timeline.
