Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Breadalbane, Prince Edward Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The yard sign that was put in my yard is a good advertisement for Interlock Roofing because people are stopping to get information from the sign.
I can't get up on the roof to really test it out, but time will tell. Thank you. There could be a problem in that your company is too successful to meet all the starting dates, but it isn't anything I would complain about in the end.
Our likelihood to recommend will depend on how the roof performs over the first couple of years. We are pleased with the appearance of the roof and believe that it was a quality install however won’t really be able to gauge this until time passes and roof is tested by weather. I would encourage anyone considering Interlock Metal Roofing - Halifax to receive concrete contractual timelines around installation before proceeding. I hope that our experience was unusual and not the norm for this company. Communication + safety + timeliness + smoke-free on client premises Despite the negative experiences described above, we are very pleased with the final product and appearance of the roof. Too early to comment on performance over the winter and durability but we are hopeful. We understand that the installer had issues with finding help and/or accommodation which led to an inconsistent schedule and significant delays however do feel this should have been managed more effectively such that customers not impacted. We tried to be patient as we were told that his workmanship was worth it. We do appreciate and acknowledge the $500 completion adjustment that was credited to our final invoice.
Interlock Metal Roofing- Halifax was great, so I have no areas of improvement. I am completely satisfied.
E mail receipts after payments
They are very professional, and it was extremely well done. It certainly looks like quality work to me. We've had lots of comments on it. They're professional people who are dedicated to the work they're doing. I'm very satisfied. There are no areas in which Interlock Metal Roofing could have improved. I was more than pleased with it. I had my roof done before, and there's no comparison to how the work played out. I felt confident. The workers arrived and brought the material ahead of time. Once they came on the roof, I had no worries. Sometimes you have to constantly check behind roof workers, but I didn't have to be behind them checking everything. They cleaned everything up, and they made the property safe for us after finishing the day's work. I was totally satisfied. They are great workers, and it's a high-quality product. They made my home look better.
Everything was good.
Lower the cost Roof looks great had a lot of great coments. A little concerned about the snow sliding off it. I wouldn’t want to be standing under it.
I did not make payment yet but will do so as I am waiting for the invoice or bill. I asked if there was going to be an adjustment because some of the things I was charged for we never used. I called Bob today but I have not heard from him yet. December 7th 2017. Hope to hear from you soon.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Breadalbane
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Breadalbane, Prince Edward Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Breadalbane.
How does a metal roof handle Breadalbane's heavy snow load?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow efficiently while remaining anchored to your deck. With about 197 cm of snow falling annually across central PEI, the smooth aluminum surface (especially Slate and Standing Seam profiles) prevents snow bridging and ice-dam formation that plague asphalt roofs. The panels' light weight—Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is required, even over existing roofs. Snow guards can be added if you need controlled shedding away from walkways.
Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does not crack, curl, or lose integrity through freeze-thaw cycling—which Breadalbane experiences about 71 times per year. Unlike asphalt (which becomes brittle), wood (which splits), or concrete tile (which spalls), aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy flexes safely. The self-healing oxide layer also prevents corrosion from road salt and coastal moisture, making aluminum the most durable choice for PEI's temperature and humidity extremes.
Can aluminum roofing rust in the salty, wet climate of Prince Edward Island?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. If scratched during installation, that layer repairs itself automatically. This is why Interlock panels—manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal homes to Antarctica—are ideal for PEI's 891 mm of annual rain and salt-laden air. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts and requires constant maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a second barrier on both sides of every panel.
Do metal roofs blow off in Breadalbane's winter gales?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together mechanically; they are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Breadalbane's typical gusts reach about 165 km/h, which falls within the design margin. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms that the interlocking system distributes wind load across all panels, not individual fasteners. This redundancy is why metal roofing outperforms asphalt in regions with strong seasonal winds and ice-laden gusts.
What's the hail rating on an Interlock metal roof, and will my insurance company notice?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 is rare and demonstrates genuine durability; many insurers recognize this certification and offer premium discounts on metal roofs with Class 4 ratings. For a region that can see sudden weather events, this protection is concrete and transferable with your home, adding to resale appeal and long-term cost savings compared to repeated asphalt repair claims.
What's covered under Interlock's warranty, and does it transfer if I sell?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion date. This means you buy once and never tear off and landfill again. With asphalt typically lasting 15–25 years and requiring replacement 2–3 times in 71 years, Interlock's warranty structure reflects genuine confidence in aluminum's durability across Breadalbane's 71 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs without structural work. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) is negligible compared to slate or traditional tile. This saves thousands in framing upgrades and allows you to avoid a full tear-off, which is especially valuable in Breadalbane where disposal costs and weather windows are constraints. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms installation over one layer of existing roofing.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or shake?
Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles degrade visibly after 10–15 years and need repairs; wood shake splits and curls with 71 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Breadalbane; concrete tile cracks and requires mortar resealing. Aluminum simply sheds rain (891 mm annually) and snow (197 cm) without degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains color and gloss for 30 years, verified by ASTM standards. Occasional debris clearing is all that's needed—no algae treatment, no replacing failed shingles, no rotting underlayment.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?
Yes, because it's your last roof. Asphalt costs less initially but must be replaced 2–3 times over 70 years, each time including tear-off labor and landfill fees. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty and 50-year transferable coverage mean no replacement cycle. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 savings on installation through Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. When you factor lifecycle cost—avoided tear-offs, zero maintenance, and transferable resale value—aluminum becomes the economical choice, especially over Breadalbane's extended timeline.
Is aluminum roofing actually recycled, or does it end up in a landfill like asphalt?
Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and breaks the asphalt cycle. Every asphalt re-roof means old shingles—which cannot be economically recycled—go to landfill. Over 71 years, that's 2–3 full roof tear-offs per house across Breadalbane. Aluminum, by contrast, retains scrap value and enters established recycling streams at end of life. No hazardous disposal, no landfill burden, no repeat manufacturing waste. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced-maintenance design also cuts embodied carbon. Choosing metal eliminates the extraction-use-discard pattern entirely.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Breadalbane’s climate?
Yes. Breadalbane averages about 197 cm of snow, 891 mm of rain, roughly 71 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 165 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
