What our customers are saying:

Review: December 3, 2023 Completion: September 4, 2023

Our likelihood to recommend will depend on how the roof performs over the first couple of years. We are pleased with the appearance of the roof and believe that it was a quality install however won’t really be able to gauge this until time passes and roof is tested by weather. I would encourage anyone considering Interlock Metal Roofing - Halifax to receive concrete contractual timelines around installation before proceeding. I hope that our experience was unusual and not the norm for this company. Communication + safety + timeliness + smoke-free on client premises Despite the negative experiences described above, we are very pleased with the final product and appearance of the roof. Too early to comment on performance over the winter and durability but we are hopeful. We understand that the installer had issues with finding help and/or accommodation which led to an inconsistent schedule and significant delays however do feel this should have been managed more effectively such that customers not impacted. We tried to be patient as we were told that his workmanship was worth it. We do appreciate and acknowledge the $500 completion adjustment that was credited to our final invoice.

Review: October 7, 2018 Completion: September 30, 2018

I can't get up on the roof to really test it out, but time will tell. Thank you. There could be a problem in that your company is too successful to meet all the starting dates, but it isn't anything I would complain about in the end.

Review: September 13, 2023 Completion: July 13, 2023

They are very professional, and it was extremely well done. It certainly looks like quality work to me. We've had lots of comments on it. They're professional people who are dedicated to the work they're doing. I'm very satisfied. There are no areas in which Interlock Metal Roofing could have improved. I was more than pleased with it. I had my roof done before, and there's no comparison to how the work played out. I felt confident. The workers arrived and brought the material ahead of time. Once they came on the roof, I had no worries. Sometimes you have to constantly check behind roof workers, but I didn't have to be behind them checking everything. They cleaned everything up, and they made the property safe for us after finishing the day's work. I was totally satisfied. They are great workers, and it's a high-quality product. They made my home look better.

I did not make payment yet but will do so as I am waiting for the invoice or bill. I asked if there was going to be an adjustment because some of the things I was charged for we never used. I called Bob today but I have not heard from him yet. December 7th 2017. Hope to hear from you soon.

Interlock Roofing could have started the job a little latter in the morning. We had a pretty good experience. The only negative thing was Bob told us he would bring a sign to put out on our lawn, but we have yet to receive the sign.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cornwall

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cornwall.

Will a metal roof hold up through PEI's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. With about 77 freeze-thaw days per year in Central PEI, your roof faces constant expansion and contraction, but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and contains no iron, so it cannot rust even when water repeatedly freezes and thaws in cracks. The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to move independently, preventing the stress that splits asphalt or warps wood shakes. Over the roof's 50+ year lifespan, this resilience pays off.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. Cornwall receives about 178 cm of snow annually, and the smooth, slippery surface of metal (especially profiles like Slate or Standing Seam) encourages slides rather than pooling. The lightweight aluminum panels—around 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—can handle snow load without sagging, and because snow doesn't bond to metal the way it does to asphalt, ice dams form less readily. Snow guards are an option if you want to control slides for safety reasons.

Can a metal roof actually rust in a salty, wet climate like PEI?

No. Interlock's aluminum roofing is made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209)—pure aluminum containing zero iron, which is what rusts. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that heals itself when scratched. In fact, the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection in salt-air environments like yours, and it's warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Even after decades in coastal PEI with 914 mm of annual rainfall and salt spray, aluminum stays structurally sound.

Will a metal roof blow off in PEI's coastal wind gusts?

Wind speeds up to 150 km/h are documented in Central PEI, but an Interlock metal roof is designed for far worse. The four-way interlocking panels lock to each other (not just fastened), creating a unified system that resists wind uplift, and the warranty covers winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The lightweight aluminum—around 0.58 lb/sq ft for the Shake profile—means less mass for wind to catch, yet the mechanical interlock provides the holding power of much heavier materials. Maritime Metal Roofing's installation experience since 2007 ensures your fastening meets spec.

Does hail damage a metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock aluminum roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, dent-resistant material often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium reductions; contact your provider with the UL 2218 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report. Because the roof won't need replacement after severe weather, your long-term costs drop significantly. Many insurers recognize that metal roofs reduce claims frequency compared to asphalt, which degrades from hail impact.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the concrete or clay tiles it replicates. This means you can install Interlock over most existing roofs without upgrading framing, trusses, or foundations, saving thousands in structural work. Even your home's original asphalt shingles can often serve as the substrate. Maritime Metal Roofing can assess your specific roof during an inspection to confirm, but the extraordinary lightness of aluminum roofing is one of its biggest practical advantages in retrofits.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?

Yes, over 50+ years it's the last roof you'll buy. Metal roofing costs more initially than asphalt, but asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years; you'll buy 2–3 new asphalt roofs while your Interlock roof still performs. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. Add the current promotion—interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499—and the math shifts dramatically. With 178 cm of annual snow and frequent freeze-thaw stress, durability becomes your best investment.

Is metal roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Absolutely. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable; at end-of-life, it returns to the aluminum stream for reuse. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills—millions of tons annually in North America—because they cannot be recycled. Your metal roof eliminates the asphalt tear-off cycle; if you reroof in 50 years, the aluminum has value and a second life. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica, proving long-term durability reduces waste far better than disposable materials ever can.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Cornwall, and how experienced are they?

Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. is your local installer, serving the Charlottetown and Central PEI region since 2007. They understand PEI's 914 mm annual rainfall, 178 cm of snow, and 77 freeze-thaw days—challenges that demand precise installation of the four-way interlocking system. They can confirm your home doesn't need structural reinforcement, assess existing roof conditions, and ensure the ICC-ES ESR-1790-compliant installation meets wind and water-shedding specs. Right now, they're offering interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2,499 in savings. A local installer who's been serving your area for 17 years understands your climate better than a roofing chain ever could.

Can I get the look of slate, cedar shake, or tile with a metal roof?

Yes. Interlock offers five profiles designed to replicate traditional materials: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each locks together four ways to create depth, shadow lines, and texture that mirror the originals—without the weight, maintenance, or fragility. The Slate profile suits heritage homes, Cedar Shingle works for coastal cottages, and Mediterranean Tile adds character to contemporary designs. Because aluminum accepts paint and coating finishes, you can choose colors that match your home's aesthetic. Your choice of profile doesn't just affect looks; it influences snow-shedding (Standing Seam sheds fastest) and maintenance ease, so Maritime Metal Roofing can help you pick the right one for your specific situation.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Cornwall’s climate?

Yes. Cornwall averages about 178 cm of snow, 914 mm of rain, roughly 77 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 150 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
