Review: August 8, 2022Completion: July 21, 2022

They could have improved with communication on behalf of the start date. The roof looks great and we have lots of neighbors asking us where we got it. We passed along the sales contact information.

Review: May 6, 2021Completion: March 23, 2021

This installation was a replacement of our original Interlock roof due to weather damage. Improved installation techniques and higher quality material were apparent. Although the original roof was still quite serviceable, the new roof is a definite upgrade. Unanticipated delays were encountered between delivery of material and installation which were out of Interlock’s control. Attempts to communicate with Interlock, however, were challenging. It was not clear who to contact and at least one customer service phone # was apparently out of service.

Areas where flashing needs to extend beyond a vertical surface i.e. chimney's, second story corners, you need a method to provide a more professional look when making cuts in aluminum siding. Happy with my decision to purchase a roof from Interlock. It looks great. Time will tell if it will perform as promised.

Review: June 2, 2017

After researching the various metal roof manufacturers and metal roofs in general, we chose Interlock. In addition to offering a great selection of styles, Interlock was the only company that installed their own product. I liked being able to deal with one company regardless of the issue. My wife and I are very happy with our choice and results. The curb appeal has been enhanced, and we have gotten the thumbs up from our neighbors for the great look. I am happy with the performance of the roof, and I have found everything touted about this roof to be true. We had a tremendous thunderstorm come through and a downpour that was second to none. The noise from the rain hitting the roof was quieter than on the old shingle roof. I am eagerly anticipating the summer for the cooling benefit I expect to receive. Installation of the roof was flawless. The crew was very courteous and hard-working. It was obvious they were very skilled and knew what they were doing. They took the time to do it right. I believe they treated my property as if it was their very own. Communication was exceptional, and I was kept abreast of what had been done and what was going to be done each day. I even received a call from the salesperson following up which was totally unexpected. I would not hesitate to recommend Interlock to anyone who is looking for a metal roof.

I am more hesitant because of the amount of the price drops within 24 hours of the sales pitch. It was almost $20,000 less. Just kinda set me back and really made me think about the practices of the company. It made me a little uncomfortable.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Geneva Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Geneva Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Geneva Township.

Will a metal roof hold up to Illinois winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Geneva Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so it won't crack, split, or corrode the way wood shingles or uncoated steel do. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (both sides) are warrantied 30 years against chalking and fading under these exact conditions. Your roof expands and contracts with temperature swings, but the four-way interlocking panels accommodate that movement without leaking.

How does metal roofing perform with heavy snow loads?

Interlock Metal Roofing's panels are engineered for snow climates like Geneva Township's, where you'll get roughly 77 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking system keeps panels locked together so snow doesn't create gaps or stress weak points. The light weight—the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means you're not piling extra burden on your home's framing the way you would with traditional slate or concrete tile. Snow guards can be integrated if you want to manage snow shedding, and the standing seam profile is particularly popular in snow regions for its superior drainage.

Can a metal roof survive Illinois wind gusts?

Geneva Township sees typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h, but gusts can reach 105 km/h—and Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked on all four sides to its neighbors, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that can lift or separate. That's why the system earns ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 compliance with the International Building Code—it's tested and verified for severe weather.

Will a metal roof leak in heavy rain?

Heavy rain is no concern with properly installed Interlock panels. Geneva Township receives approximately 920 mm of rainfall yearly, and the interlocking profiles shed water by design—each panel overlaps the next in both directions, creating multiple barriers before water reaches the deck. When installed over solid decking with underlayment, the system performs identically to asphalt in rain protection, but without the degradation that UV and moisture cause to asphalt binders over time. The warranty covers perforation from hail up to 1.5 inches, giving you confidence in extreme weather.

What's the hail rating, and could this lower my insurance costs?

Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the roof won't require claims for impact damage the way asphalt or softer materials do. In Kane County's climate, hail events do occur, and having a Class 4 rated roof on your inspection report can translate directly to premium reductions. Ask your insurer about metal roof discounts when you're ready to install; many carriers recognize the reduced risk.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel metal roofs?

Aluminum contains no iron, so rust—which requires iron oxidation—is physically impossible. When aluminum's oxide layer is scratched, it automatically re-forms, sealing the exposed metal. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds another 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, so even in a salt-air environment or harsh Midwest weather, the coating protects the substrate. Steel roofs, by contrast, require constant maintenance to prevent rust staining and structural failure. For a roof that lasts your lifetime and into the next owner's, aluminum's chemistry is the reason.

What's the real warranty, and how long will this roof actually last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material coverage for the original owner—that means no percentage reduction over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which directly protects your home's resale value. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty and aluminum's inherent resistance to corrosion, you're looking at a roof that outperforms asphalt (15–20 years) and matches or exceeds traditional slate or tile in practical lifespan—but without their maintenance burden or weight concerns.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, weighing roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft. Even the Shake profile comes in at just 0.58 lb/sq ft. This light weight means the panels install directly over most existing roofs—no expensive structural upgrades, no added load on aging framing. In Geneva Township's older homes especially, that's a massive advantage: you get the look of heavy traditional materials with the engineering simplicity of a modern system. Your home's structure supports the weight it already carries, and you're done.

Does metal roofing really save money on cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. In Geneva Township's climate—with about 3,037 sunshine hours annually—that reflection reduces cooling load, especially during spring and early fall. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies these performance metrics, so you're not relying on manufacturer claims. Combined with aluminum's low heat capacity, a metal roof stays cooler in summer than dark asphalt, lowering air-conditioning runtime. Exact savings depend on your home's insulation and HVAC system, but homeowners typically see noticeable reductions in hot months.

Is there a local installer in Geneva Township I can work with?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001 and is experienced in Kane County's climate, code requirements, and home styles. A local installer means faster response times, familiarity with your neighborhood's architecture, and accountability within the community. They understand how to manage snow loads on Illinois homes, install over existing structures, and navigate permit processes with the township. When you work with someone who's been installing in your area for over two decades, you get confidence that the job will be done right and that support is just a phone call away if you ever need it.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Geneva Township’s climate?

Yes. Geneva Township averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
