We built our house 25 years ago from plans I found in Country Living Magazine. It is a perfect blend of the “new” house my husband wanted and the “old” farmhouse that I wanted, nestled at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, it was a perfect place to raise our kids. We still love it just as much as we did then…but it was in need of some updates. It was time to replace the original roof, and why not repaint too? This has been the summer to do it all. We looked at asphalt shingles, but nothing wowed me. Some colors were “close,” but it was still a lot of money to spend on something that was just o.k. I kept thinking about a metal roof, but my husband wanted something traditional. Thank goodness an advertisement popped up on my computer one day. We loved the look but wondered how they would really look. I did a little research and made the call. We were impressed!!! Not an easy feat! The colors were fabulous! A perfect blend of what we were both wanting. After months of discussions and searching, we bought our roof that night. I so wish we had started with Interlock! Thankfully because of when we ordered, there was a few weeks wait time… Just enough to get the painter in to paint, and enough time to change the porch pillars too. Jesse was our crew leader for installation; he was great, and so were all members of our install crew. They were so polite and kept the area cleaned up on a daily basis. I love the new look! And knowing that this roof will last a lifetime, literally, is very comforting. Thanks for a job well done.

The truck showed up to deliver roof with no appointment - my 68 year old husband had to help unload and break down the pallet - my calls to the area coordinator and headquarters were largely unanswered - I incurred international call fees because I was calling BC almost daily - our project was projected 8 - 10 weeks, install 13 weeks - which is ok except that he communication was so poor. the roofing materials killed the grass in our yard it laid there so long. We love the roof, glad we did it. The heat on our second floor inside was immediately mitigated with the roofing system. Overall we would buy the product again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lisbon

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lisbon, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lisbon.

Will an aluminum metal roof handle Lisbon's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this stress. Lisbon averages about 84 freeze-thaw days per year with winters around 64 cm of snow, and the four-way interlocking panel system absorbs movement without cracking, splitting, or curling—all covered under the Guardian lifetime warranty. Unlike wood shakes or brittle asphalt, aluminum flexes.

How does a metal roof perform with Lisbon's snow load and ice dams?

Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface provides less friction for ice to grip. Lisbon receives about 64 cm of snow annually with typical winter lows well below freezing. The four-way interlocking seams are completely sealed, preventing meltwater from entering gaps. Optional snow guards available. The lightweight panels—the Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft—eliminate the structural overload that heavy slate or concrete tile creates.

Will heavy rain leak through seams in an Interlock metal roof?

No. Lisbon averages about 1024 mm of rain yearly, and the four-way interlocking design creates a labyrinth that sheds water downslope before it can penetrate seams. The panels overlap mechanically; no sealant is required at panel joints. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment, this matches the leak protection of a traditional asphalt roof, with the added durability of aluminum that never rots.

Why won't an aluminum roof rust like some steel roofs do?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214. This dual-layer protection is especially valuable in Lisbon's variable climate with freeze-thaw stress and rainfall, and it makes aluminum fundamentally different from steel roofing.

Is an Interlock metal roof strong enough for Lisbon's wind gusts?

Yes. Typical daily-max winds in Lisbon average 21 km/h, but gusts can reach 98 km/h. The Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together in both directions, preventing uplift and panel separation. This mechanical strength—not adhesive—is what holds the roof down in severe wind.

Will my house need structural reinforcement for an Interlock metal roof?

No. The Interlock Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most existing roofs can support it without reinforcement. Even the heavier Shake profile is just 0.58 lb/sq ft. This weight advantage is critical in Lisbon, where about 64 cm of snow annually would add significant load to a traditional tile roof. Metal replaces heavy materials without foundation upgrades.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. Lisbon receives about 3074 sunshine hours per year. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these panels reduce roof surface temperature compared to conventional asphalt. Lower roof temperature means less heat transfer into the attic and lower air-conditioning demand on warm days.

Does Interlock offer hail protection for Lisbon homeowners?

Yes. Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This maximum rating can qualify homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage. The non-combustible aluminum and proven Class 4 durability often reduce underwriting risk, making the roof an asset in liability and claim assessment.

What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding resale appeal. Combined with the Alunar® 30-year coating warranty and aluminum's inherent non-corrosive nature, Interlock roofs installed today will outlast the typical 20-30 year asphalt roof by decades.

Who installs Interlock roofs in Lisbon, Illinois?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Kendall County region since 2001, offering local expertise in Lisbon's climate—with its 84 annual freeze-thaw days, 64 cm snow, and 1024 mm rain. The local team understands installation over existing roofs, snow-shedding configuration, and regional building codes under ICC-ES ESR-1790. Direct local access ensures timely service, warranty administration, and familiarity with Lisbon's architectural character and homeowner needs.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Lisbon’s climate?

Yes. Lisbon averages about 64 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 84 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 98 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
