Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Millbrook, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We built our house 25 years ago from plans I found in Country Living Magazine. It is a perfect blend of the “new” house my husband wanted and the “old” farmhouse that I wanted, nestled at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, it was a perfect place to raise our kids. We still love it just as much as we did then…but it was in need of some updates. It was time to replace the original roof, and why not repaint too? This has been the summer to do it all. We looked at asphalt shingles, but nothing wowed me. Some colors were “close,” but it was still a lot of money to spend on something that was just o.k. I kept thinking about a metal roof, but my husband wanted something traditional. Thank goodness an advertisement popped up on my computer one day. We loved the look but wondered how they would really look. I did a little research and made the call. We were impressed!!! Not an easy feat! The colors were fabulous! A perfect blend of what we were both wanting. After months of discussions and searching, we bought our roof that night. I so wish we had started with Interlock! Thankfully because of when we ordered, there was a few weeks wait time… Just enough to get the painter in to paint, and enough time to change the porch pillars too. Jesse was our crew leader for installation; he was great, and so were all members of our install crew. They were so polite and kept the area cleaned up on a daily basis. I love the new look! And knowing that this roof will last a lifetime, literally, is very comforting. Thanks for a job well done.
The truck showed up to deliver roof with no appointment - my 68 year old husband had to help unload and break down the pallet - my calls to the area coordinator and headquarters were largely unanswered - I incurred international call fees because I was calling BC almost daily - our project was projected 8 - 10 weeks, install 13 weeks - which is ok except that he communication was so poor. the roofing materials killed the grass in our yard it laid there so long. We love the roof, glad we did it. The heat on our second floor inside was immediately mitigated with the roofing system. Overall we would buy the product again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Millbrook
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Millbrook, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Millbrook.
Will a metal roof hold up to Millbrook's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Kendall County experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days per year, which can crack asphalt, warp wood shingles, and shatter brittle tile. Aluminum expands and contracts naturally without breaking because it's a ductile metal; its oxide layer doesn't depend on temperature. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is tested to ASTM D2244 standards and won't chalk or peel even after thousands of thermal cycles. Your metal roof will still be protecting your home decades after asphalt shingles have curled away.
How does a metal roof handle Millbrook's annual snowfall?
Interlock metal roofing handles Kendall County's roughly 64 cm of snow per year without the ice dam problems that plague asphalt. The smooth, slick aluminum surface sheds snow and ice rather than trapping moisture underneath, which eliminates the freeze-thaw damage that weakens other roofs. The four-way interlocking panels won't separate under snow load, and optional snow guards let you control shedding in populated areas. You'll have fewer leaks, less gutter damage, and no moisture-driven mold—just reliable winter performance year after year.
Why choose aluminum roofing over steel in a wet climate like Millbrook?
Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains zero iron—rust is iron oxide, an impossibility with pure aluminum. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that re-seals itself within seconds if scratched. In Millbrook's 1024 mm of annual rainfall, that protection never fails. Interlock uses 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides, delivering a 30-year warranty against corrosion. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum roofing simply lasts.
Can Interlock handle Millbrook's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Kendall County averages gusts up to 98 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to withstand sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The overlapping panel design locks out wind pressure from multiple directions, and the lightweight aluminum (about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile) resists uplift that would peel heavier roofs away. You get the same durability in calm weather and storms, with no warranty gaps for regional wind events.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles weigh roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that your existing roof can handle multiple layers. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replaces heavy concrete or clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft: roughly 96% lighter than the tile it mimics. This means you can install Interlock directly over your current asphalt roof, saving thousands on tear-off and frame work. The panels' four-way interlock distributes that minimal weight evenly, protecting both new and old structures.
Is a metal roof really cheaper than replacing asphalt shingles three times?
Yes—it's the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Millbrook's 1024 mm annual rainfall and 84 freeze-thaw days; you'll reroof three times in 50 years, each time paying for labor, dumpster fees, and roofing waste. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years) means you pay once and stop. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years, and the aluminum itself won't deteriorate. Over 50 years, one metal roof costs far less than three asphalt jobs.
What's Interlock's hail rating, and will my insurance company care?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and carries a warranty covering perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum won't dent, crack, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt, wood, or composite shingles do. Many insurers recognize Class 4 ratings and offer premium discounts or wind/hail credits. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification; they may reduce your policy cost enough to offset a chunk of your roof investment. You're also protected from claim denials due to storm damage.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Almost none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. With about 3074 annual sunshine hours and regular rainfall, asphalt shingles accumulate moss, algae, and debris; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks and needs regrouting. Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so no rot. It won't split, curl, or attract mold. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning and an occasional visual inspection (especially after storms) are your only real tasks. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish won't chalk or fade in Kendall County's sun, so you skip expensive cleaning and coating renewal. This is maintenance-free roofing.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing serve Millbrook and the surrounding area?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has been installing in this region since 2001 and knows Kendall County's climate intimately—the heavy rainfall, freeze-thaw cycling, and wind gusts that challenge ordinary roofing. As a regional installer authorized by the manufacturer (based in Delta, BC, since 1998), they understand ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance, the nuances of installing over existing roofs, and how to optimize the Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam profiles for local conditions. You're working with people who have installed thousands of roofs in your exact weather zone.
Is metal roofing actually more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Fundamentally, yes. Asphalt shingles end up in landfills after 15–20 years; in 50 years, you've discarded three roofs. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and the roof itself lasts so long that you're not cycling waste into landfills. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24, 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) is endlessly recyclable without loss of integrity. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance burden further lowers your environmental footprint. One metal roof replaces three asphalt roofs, eliminating tear-off waste, transportation emissions, and landfill volume—a measurable sustainability win over the typical 50-year homeownership span.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Millbrook’s climate?
Yes. Millbrook averages about 64 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 84 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 98 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
