Review: March 28, 2002 Completion: March 27, 2002

I just wanted to write this note to thank you for our new roof. When we first bought this house 3 years ago we knew that we would need a new roof soon. When we got in touch with Interlock Industries our roofing problems were solved. We were tired of going up on the roof year after year trying to repair the old shingles. After every storm shingles would blow off and end up scattered all over the yard. Now our troubles are over for LIFE! The high cost is worth not having to go up there and try to make repairs that would just blow away with the next high winds, I also love the fact that the snow just falls right off with out any effort from us having to push it off. I was a little worried about the rain and how loud it would be but I haven't been able to notice any big difference in sound at all. I wanted to thank the crew that installed the roof as well. They did a great job and they were very personable people that knew what they were doing. The job was done in a very timely manner. I was actually shocked at how soon toe product was delivered and then installed. Thank you Interlock Industries for this roof of a lifetime! We are very happy with the outcome and if we do end up buying another house we would definitely have one of these roots installed on it as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Livermore

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Livermore, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Livermore.

Does metal roofing handle Maine snow and ice buildup better than asphalt?

Yes. Livermore averages about 154 cm of snow yearly, and metal's smooth, interlocking four-way panel design sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt's textured surface, which traps moisture and promotes ice dam formation. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at ~0.58 lb/sq ft) means snow load never stresses your structure. Add snow guards if you want controlled shedding, and you eliminate the ice dam problem that costs asphalt homeowners thousands in water damage during freeze-thaw cycles. Metal also won't crack or curl under Livermore's typical 90 annual freeze-thaw days—aluminum's oxide layer flexes without degradation.

Will a metal roof crack or degrade through Maine's freeze-thaw cycles?

No. Livermore experiences approximately 90 freeze-thaw days per year, the exact condition that destroys asphalt and wood shingles. Aluminum cannot rot, split, or crack because it has no wood fibers and no iron to rust. Its protective Alunar 70% PVDF coating self-heals when scratched, and the material expands and contracts without permanent damage. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling—defects that plague asphalt in your climate. After 27 years of manufacturing and installations from coastal salt-air zones to polar research stations, freeze-thaw durability is proven.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust or corrode in Maine's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Livermore receives about 948 mm of rain annually plus 154 cm of snow, so corrosion resistance matters here. Instead of rusting, aluminum develops a microscopically thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath. The roofing-grade 3105-H24/3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is bonded with Alunar fluorocarbon coating on both sides—extra insurance against salt spray and moisture. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime, non-prorated. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance; aluminum doesn't.

How does metal roofing perform in Maine wind and storm gusts?

Livermore's typical gusts reach 117 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—rated to withstand your region's strongest recorded gusts with a safety margin. The interlocking edges lock each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating means the roof handles hail, flying debris, and pressure fluctuations. Installation to spec by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. ensures the fastening pattern meets or exceeds ICC-ES ESR-1790 code requirements.

Will a metal roof reduce hail damage or lower my homeowner's insurance?

Metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the product's ESR-1790 evaluation report and Intertek listing 33876 for verification. Aluminum's density and the four-way interlocking design distribute impact force across a wide area, preventing the punctures and splits that plague asphalt. In regions with frequent hail, premiums drop noticeably.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually none. Asphalt needs annual cleaning, algae treatment, and granule inspection; wood requires sealing, insect treatment, and constant monitoring for rot and splitting. Interlock's aluminum roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Rain (about 948 mm per year in Livermore) naturally cleans the Alunar 70% PVDF finish. The 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading means no repainting. Four-way interlocking panels shed debris without trapping it. Inspect gutters and flashing annually—standard for any roof—and you're done. It's the last roof maintenance task you'll undertake.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy ceramic or concrete tile, weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than genuine tile. Even the heavier Shake profile at ~0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to slate or clay. Livermore's 154 cm annual snowfall plus typical wind gusts to 117 km/h create no structural burden. Aluminum can install directly over most existing roofs, eliminating tear-off labor and expense. A structural engineer may clear it in minutes; your installer (Interlock Metal Roofing, New England Inc.) can advise on your specific framing.

Will a metal roof lower cooling costs or help with heating in Maine?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors carry initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. Livermore receives about 3,015 hours of sunshine annually, so reflection matters even in a cool climate—it reduces attic heat buildup in summer, lowering air-conditioning load. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings confirm measurable energy savings. The reflective finish also helps roofing snow melt slightly faster in spring, reducing ice dam risk during your region's 90 freeze-thaw days. It's a secondary benefit in Maine, but quantifiable.

What's the timeline for installing a metal roof, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Yes, it installs over most existing roofs without tear-off, cutting installation time by days and labor cost significantly. The four-way interlocking panels fasten quickly to solid deck; no gaps or alignment errors. Typical timelines depend on roof size and complexity; your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., will provide a detailed schedule after site inspection. The lightweight aluminum (Slate ~0.41 lb/sq ft) means faster handling and lower structural stress during installation. Completed roofs are watertight immediately. With current financing (no interest until Spring 2027), you can start immediately and spread payments after spring.

How long does a metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Transferred to the next owner, it remains valid for 50 years from completion. In practice, Interlock roofs have performed reliably since 1998 across climates far more extreme than Livermore's 948 mm rain and 154 cm snow. The Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244). This is the coverage metal homeowners seek: genuine, transferable, truly comprehensive.
