Review: March 28, 2002 Completion: March 27, 2002

I just wanted to write this note to thank you for our new roof. When we first bought this house 3 years ago we knew that we would need a new roof soon. When we got in touch with Interlock Industries our roofing problems were solved. We were tired of going up on the roof year after year trying to repair the old shingles. After every storm shingles would blow off and end up scattered all over the yard. Now our troubles are over for LIFE! The high cost is worth not having to go up there and try to make repairs that would just blow away with the next high winds, I also love the fact that the snow just falls right off with out any effort from us having to push it off. I was a little worried about the rain and how loud it would be but I haven't been able to notice any big difference in sound at all. I wanted to thank the crew that installed the roof as well. They did a great job and they were very personable people that knew what they were doing. The job was done in a very timely manner. I was actually shocked at how soon toe product was delivered and then installed. Thank you Interlock Industries for this roof of a lifetime! We are very happy with the outcome and if we do end up buying another house we would definitely have one of these roots installed on it as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Minot

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Minot, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Minot.

How does a metal roof handle West Minot's snow load and ice dams?

Aluminum panels shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth surface and interlocking design prevent buildup. West Minot averages about 153 cm of snow yearly, and the light weight of Interlock panels—the Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your existing structure carries no extra burden even when snow sits temporarily. The four-way interlocking system resists wind gusts up to 115 km/h that can dislodge chunks, and the profiles' steeper pitch naturally encourages drainage, reducing ice dam risk during the region's 91 freeze-thaw cycles each year.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage aluminum roofing?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it doesn't crack, rot, or split like asphalt or wood. The material's oxide layer—aluminum's natural corrosion barrier—actually self-heals when scratched, so West Minot's roughly 91 annual freeze-thaw days won't degrade it. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloys (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels are specifically chosen for freeze-thaw durability. Over 926 mm of annual rainfall, moisture that gets under traditional shingles causes rot; aluminum simply won't.

Why does aluminum not rust like steel roofing, and does it matter in Maine?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal that rusts. Instead, it forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when damaged. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts within years if coatings fail. Interlock adds a 30-year-warranted Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, extra insurance against West Minot's 926 mm annual rain and salt-air regions. This dual-layer approach—material plus coating—means your roof won't corrode during 153 cm of snow, ice melt cycles, or the region's 91 annual freeze-thaw days.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

Almost certainly not. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over existing roofs without structural work. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to asphalt. This matters in West Minot because it means no costly framing upgrades, faster installation, and the ability to reroof in place. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation over most existing structures, saving you thousands in labor and engineering.

Can metal roofing withstand West Minot's wind gusts?

Yes, well beyond what the region typically throws at it. Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and typical West Minot gusts run about 115 km/h. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, so wind can't lift or shift individual shingles—a common failure point with asphalt. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 rating confirms the system's structural integrity under code-standard wind loads. Your roof stays secure through the region's windier seasons without ponding risk or panel migration.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize Class 4 ratings and offer modest discounts on homeowner policies, so ask your agent about eligibility once installed. West Minot's hail risk is lower than the Great Plains, but severe weather happens, and Class 4 certification proves the roof will survive impacts that would shred asphalt or crack slate. Over the roof's life, that durability translates to no storm-related leak repairs or replacement costs.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering attic temperatures and reducing cooling load on hot days. West Minot gets about 3,051 sunshine hours yearly, so even a modest reflectance gain compounds over the season. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable heat rejection. While Maine's heating dominates costs, summer cooling savings—plus the lifetime durability—add real long-term value compared to asphalt, which absorbs 80% of solar energy.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion—a powerful selling point. The Alunar finish carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244). No other roof offers this combination. Over West Minot's 91 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 926 mm of rain, that non-prorated coverage means you're protected for decades without diminishing claim value.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Far less. Aluminum doesn't rot, crack, or curl like wood shakes or asphalt shingles. There's no algae growth, no loose granule loss, and no annual inspections for storm damage. Quarterly gutter cleaning and occasional debris removal are all you need—the same as any roof. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. With 926 mm of annual rain and 153 cm of snow in West Minot, asphalt requires constant repair after heavy weather; aluminum simply sheds it. Over a 40-year lifespan, the time and money saved on maintenance easily justifies the upfront cost.

Is metal roofing more environmentally friendly than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum is about 95% recyclable, so when it eventually outlives its usefulness, the material returns to the supply chain rather than a landfill. Asphalt, by contrast, is tossed at tear-off—the old roof-to-landfill cycle repeating every 20 years. Over West Minot's 926 mm annual rainfall and 153 cm of snow, asphalt degrades faster, triggering earlier replacement and more waste. One Interlock installation lasts two or three asphalt roofs, eliminating multiple tear-offs and the carbon cost of repeated manufacturing, transport, and disposal. That's real environmental benefit.
