Review: March 28, 2002 Completion: March 27, 2002

I just wanted to write this note to thank you for our new roof. When we first bought this house 3 years ago we knew that we would need a new roof soon. When we got in touch with Interlock Industries our roofing problems were solved. We were tired of going up on the roof year after year trying to repair the old shingles. After every storm shingles would blow off and end up scattered all over the yard. Now our troubles are over for LIFE! The high cost is worth not having to go up there and try to make repairs that would just blow away with the next high winds, I also love the fact that the snow just falls right off with out any effort from us having to push it off. I was a little worried about the rain and how loud it would be but I haven't been able to notice any big difference in sound at all. I wanted to thank the crew that installed the roof as well. They did a great job and they were very personable people that knew what they were doing. The job was done in a very timely manner. I was actually shocked at how soon toe product was delivered and then installed. Thank you Interlock Industries for this roof of a lifetime! We are very happy with the outcome and if we do end up buying another house we would definitely have one of these roots installed on it as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Poland

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Poland, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Poland.

Does metal roofing handle Maine's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. Poland averages about 153 cm of snow annually with roughly 91 freeze-thaw cycles per year, a combination that causes asphalt to crack and split. Interlock's sealed panel design prevents the ice-dam seepage that leads to interior damage. Optional snow guards can be installed for additional control. The metal surface accelerates melting without trapping moisture like porous shingles do.

Will a metal roof crack after decades of Maine's freeze-thaw cycles?

No—aluminum's non-porous structure is immune to the moisture absorption that cracks asphalt, wood, and clay over 91 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike ceramic tile or slate (which split when water freezes inside them), solid 3105-H24 aluminum alloy cannot absorb water and therefore cannot expand and contract internally. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating adds a 30-year fade and chalking warranty, protecting the metal from UV damage during Poland's approximately 3,051 annual sunshine hours.

Can aluminum roofing rust in a Maine climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal when scratched or damaged. Poland's 926 mm annual rainfall and seasonal humidity pose no threat to aluminum; that same environment would cause steel roofing to rust within years. The Alunar coating on both sides of each panel adds a 30-year performance guarantee, making aluminum the durable choice for New England's wet climate.

How does metal roofing perform in Poland's wind and storms?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph, well above Poland's typical peak gusts of around 115 km/h (71 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors and to the deck, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than lifting individual shingles. This engineering meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 (the 2025 building code standard) and UL wind testing. The tighter the installation, the stronger the wind resistance—another reason experienced local installation matters.

Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest classification available, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs are far less likely to require claims than asphalt. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 documentation; many carriers recognize the reduced risk and lower premiums accordingly. Over a 50-year roof life, those savings compound substantially.

Can my house handle a metal roof without structural reinforcement?

Yes—Interlock panels are extraordinarily light. The Cedar Shingle installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, making the Tile profile approximately 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile. Most Poland homes can accommodate a metal roof directly over existing asphalt without adding any structural support, saving thousands in framing upgrades. This is verified in ICC-ES ESR-1790. A local inspection confirms your specific home's capacity, but weight has never been a barrier for Interlock installations in New England.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you measure lifetime cost. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years in Poland's 91 annual freeze-thaw cycles, requiring two or three replacements over 50 years plus tear-off and disposal fees. Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner (50 years transferable to the next owner), eliminating replacement costs. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated, meaning full coverage for the life of your ownership. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That front-loaded savings offsets the initial premium within the first re-roofing cycle you avoid.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Minimal. Unlike asphalt (which requires annual inspection and deteriorates in freeze-thaw cycles), wood shakes (which rot and split), or tile (which cracks and requires mortar repair), Interlock metal simply sheds debris and water. Occasional gutter cleaning and a visual inspection after severe weather are typically sufficient. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish resists chalk and fading for 30 years, eliminating the need to seal or restain. This low-maintenance design is verified under CALGreen standards—saving time and money across decades.

Do metal roofs really save money on heating and cooling?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning the roof reflects heat that dark asphalt absorbs. Over Poland's ~3,051 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance reduces cooling demand and lowers summer utility bills. In winter, the thermal benefit is less pronounced, but the durability advantage is year-round: no moisture trapped beneath the roof, no hidden rot driving heating costs. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy performance.

Who installs metal roofing in Poland, Maine, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served Androscoggin County and surrounding regions since 1999—25 years of experience with New England weather, building codes, and local conditions. They understand Poland's heavy snow loads, freeze-thaw cycles, and coastal-influenced moisture patterns. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Choosing a local, experienced installer ensures proper installation per ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, correct panel interlocking, and warranty support when you need it.
