  • Interlock Lifetime Aluminum Roofing Systems engineered for North Auburn’s inland Maine climate — heavy snow, freeze–thaw cycles, and wide seasonal temperature swings.
  • Precision weatherproof seams (profiles: slate, cedar, shake, tile) and mechanical fastening (profile: standing seam) deliver long-term leak protection during wind-driven rain events.
  • Aluminum panels are coated with the Alunar® Coating System (no visible aluminum surface) for a durable, non-metallic finish and enhanced corrosion resistance.
  • Standing-seam mechanical fastening minimizes panel uplift and reduces penetrations where snow and ice accumulate on steep roof slopes common in North Auburn.
  • Interlocking panels shed heavy snowfall to reduce static snow loads and help prevent ice dams during freeze–thaw cycles experienced across Androscoggin County.
  • Designed to resist episodic atmospheric-river-style downpours and rapid snowmelt runoff that can overwhelm roof drainage in western Maine.
  • While North Auburn is inland, the Alunar® finish and aluminum substrate tolerate incidental salt exposure from winter road treatments and transport routes.
  • High-impact protection — UL 2218 Class 4 — helps guard against hail, falling branches, and ice during seasonal storms.
  • Class A fire-rated available for added ember resistance and elevated protection during regional dry periods.
  • Reflective Alunar® coatings help reduce heat gain during summer warm spells, improving attic comfort and lowering cooling load.
  • Low-maintenance aluminum resists rot, delamination, and moss colonization that commonly degrades asphalt shingles on shaded, humid roofs around North Auburn.
  • Robust waterproof installation and precision joints reduce water intrusion during heavy rain, melting snow, and freeze–thaw cycles typical in Androscoggin County.
  • Solar-compatible panel geometry and attachment details accommodate modern bracket-mounted photovoltaic systems without compromising weatherproofing.
  • Engineered and tested to meet severe wind-load criteria (193+ km/h / 120+ mph) to withstand Nor’easter gusts and inland windstorms that can impact roofs in this region.
  • Backed by a Lifetime-Limited transferable warranty to protect North Auburn homeowners and support long-term resale value.

Review: March 28, 2002 Completion: March 27, 2002

I just wanted to write this note to thank you for our new roof. When we first bought this house 3 years ago we knew that we would need a new roof soon. When we got in touch with Interlock Industries our roofing problems were solved. We were tired of going up on the roof year after year trying to repair the old shingles. After every storm shingles would blow off and end up scattered all over the yard. Now our troubles are over for LIFE! The high cost is worth not having to go up there and try to make repairs that would just blow away with the next high winds, I also love the fact that the snow just falls right off with out any effort from us having to push it off. I was a little worried about the rain and how loud it would be but I haven't been able to notice any big difference in sound at all. I wanted to thank the crew that installed the roof as well. They did a great job and they were very personable people that knew what they were doing. The job was done in a very timely manner. I was actually shocked at how soon toe product was delivered and then installed. Thank you Interlock Industries for this roof of a lifetime! We are very happy with the outcome and if we do end up buying another house we would definitely have one of these roots installed on it as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Auburn

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Auburn, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Auburn.

How does a metal roof handle Maine's heavy snow? Will ice dams form on my house?

North Auburn receives about 150 cm of snow annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently without pooling water that causes ice dams. The lightweight design—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural upgrades are needed, even under multiple freeze-thaw cycles. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide patterns. The smooth, durable surface resists the repeated wet-freeze damage that deteriorates asphalt shingles over your region's approximately 91 freeze-thaw days per year.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage an aluminum metal roof in Maine?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched, so it thrives through freeze-thaw stress. North Auburn experiences roughly 91 freeze-thaw days yearly, which would crack wood shakes and degrade asphalt—but aluminum simply cycles without structural fatigue. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) has no iron, so it cannot rust even when moisture penetrates micro-gaps during thawing. Interlock panels are warranted against cracking and curling under these exact conditions, with a transferable 50-year coverage for the next owner.

Is aluminum roofing prone to rust? How does it compare to steel metal roofs?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains zero iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. What aluminum does is form a protective oxide layer on its surface, which self-heals if scratched, making it ideal for Maine's wet climate. Steel roofing relies on paint or coatings to prevent rust, and those coatings fail. Interlock adds Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of each panel (an extra safeguard in salt air and moisture), warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. With about 926 mm of annual rainfall in North Auburn, the absence of rust risk means your roof's integrity is not compromised by moisture exposure.

Can a metal roof withstand Maine's wind gusts? What's the warranty?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph—well above North Auburn's typical gusts, which reach about 115 km/h (71 mph). The four-way interlock design distributes wind loads across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. This redundancy means your roof stays secure during nor'easters and the frequent daily-max winds of approximately 17 km/h that characterize your region. The interlocking geometry also prevents the uplift and flutter that can develop at seams on traditional metal roofs.

How resistant is a metal roof to hail damage? Can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That extreme durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive or full-replacement policies. Your insurance agent can verify your specific coverage, but the Class 4 rating demonstrates non-negotiable impact resistance. Maine's weather includes spring and early-summer hail risk; Interlock's aluminum maintains its impact resistance for life (the Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner), so you won't face degraded performance years after installation.

Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt, but it's the last roof you'll install. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off disposal; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner. Over 50+ years, you avoid multiple asphalt replacements, labor, and landfill fees. The current regional promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—reduces that initial gap significantly. Factor in energy savings from energy-efficient colors (thermal emissivity 0.84) that reflect heat during North Auburn's ~3051 annual sunshine hours, and the total cost of ownership favors metal decisively.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a major resale advantage. The product has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, so real-world durability exceeds 25 years routinely. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In North Auburn's approximately 91 annual freeze-thaw cycles and ~926 mm rainfall, that combination of material immunity and coating durability means your roof will outlast multiple asphalt cycles.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofs require almost no maintenance. No moss treatment (like asphalt develops in damp Maine climates), no cracked-shingle replacement, no wood-shake rot repairs from your region's 150 cm of annual snow and freeze-thaw cycling. A simple annual inspection and leaf gutter cleaning are sufficient. Asphalt shingles deteriorate under UV and moisture exposure; wood shakes split and curl. Aluminum never rots or splits, and the Alunar® finish is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The four-way interlocking panels shed debris naturally, so you won't find water pooling or algae growth in valleys. That simplicity translates directly to lower lifetime cost and more free time for your family.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Absolutely. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and fully re-melted into new products at end-of-life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually because they cannot be recycled after installation. Interlock's lightweight design (Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile) also eliminates the structural reinforcement that would otherwise consume additional materials and labor. Over North Auburn's approximately 91 freeze-thaw days per year, the aluminum's durability avoids repeated replacement cycles that drain resources. Choosing metal instead of asphalt removes roughly 30–50 tons of non-recyclable waste from your community's landfills over the roof's life.

How long does installation take, and can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles?

Yes, Interlock installs over most existing asphalt roofs without tear-off, which saves time and disposal cost. The lightweight profiles—Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft, Tile at 0.59—add negligible load, so no structural reinforcement is required. Installation typically spans 3–7 days depending on roof complexity and weather. North Auburn's approximately 153 cm annual snow means timing matters; spring through fall are optimal. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served your region since 1999 and coordinates with local inspectors to ensure ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC). The local team handles permitting, flashing details, and warranty registration so you avoid costly mistakes.
