What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: March 31, 2003 Completion: March 31, 2003

Just a note about the roof we installed in March of 2003. The first thing that we have to say is that the roof looks wonderful; it’s the best one on the street. A neighbor two houses down the street had a new asphalt roof installed shortly after we had our Interlock Roof installed. The neighbor across the street remarked that our roof looked a lot better than the neighbor's. We have had quite a few neighbors stop and ask about the roof and remark how good it looks. Having the chimney flashed with a solid flashing (instead of step flashing) and the ducts matching the roof really makes the roof look finished off. Also, having them put vents on the back which match the roof looks finished off, so they are not noticeable. As far as the workmen and the quality of workmanship, we feel that it was done very professionally. We asked that they not start working until 8:00 am, and they waited until 8:30 am to start. They kept the grounds very clean even when they were stripping the roof. They hung tarps so nothing could or would damage either the house or any plants which are around the house. They were very friendly and courteous. In closing, we are very pleased with the roof and the professionalism of the workers.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Easthampton

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Easthampton.

Will a metal roof handle Easthampton's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts differently than asphalt or wood, but it resists the cumulative damage freeze-thaw causes to those materials. Easthampton experiences about 105 freeze-thaw days per year—cycles that crack asphalt, split wood shakes, and degrade coatings over time. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and dual-side Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) remain stable through repeated temperature swings. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, protecting against oxidative stress that compounds with seasonal cycling. The material's inherent flexibility prevents the brittleness and splitting that plague traditional materials in your climate.

How does a metal roof perform under Easthampton's snow load and ice dam conditions?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt shingles because its smooth, interlocked surface and low-friction coating prevent buildup and ice dam formation. Easthampton receives about 120 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute load evenly without weak points where ice dams typically form. Interlock panels are engineered to withstand snow load per ICC-ES ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, 2025 reissue). Optional snow guards can be installed for architectural profiles if you need to control descent onto walkways. The material's light weight—the Slate profile installs at approximately 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement, and snow slides naturally rather than pooling as it does on heavier asphalt.

Does heavy rainfall cause leaks in metal roofs? How is Easthampton's 1,100+ mm rain handled?

Metal roofs don't leak when installed correctly. Easthampton averages about 1,127 mm of rain yearly, yet the four-way interlocking seams and solid deck beneath prevent water infiltration. Unlike asphalt shingles that absorb water and degrade, Interlock's aluminum panels shed water immediately. Each panel interlocks on all four sides, eliminating nail holes and overlaps that are common leak points in traditional roofing. Professional installation over a solid deck with appropriate underlayment (standard practice by Interlock Metal Roofing New England Inc.) creates a continuous barrier. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms performance in wet climates. Metal roofing has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—Easthampton's rainfall poses no risk.

Can a metal roof withstand Easthampton's winter gusts and nor'easters?

Yes, and with a warranty to prove it. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), which exceeds the worst-case gusts in your region. Easthampton's typical gusts reach about 114 km/h—well within that rated capacity. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating ensures the panels don't fail under combined wind and hail. Each panel locks to its neighbors and fastens to the deck in a grid pattern, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners as asphalt does. Winter storms that tear off conventional roofing leave metal roofing intact and still weather-tight.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofs are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than the traditional material it resembles. This means you avoid the costly framing upgrades that tile or slate demand. Easthampton homes with older or modest roof structures can upgrade to a premium aesthetic without engineering work. Interlock panels install over most existing asphalt roofs, which saves the labor and landfill cost of a tear-off. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms installation compatibility across standard residential framing. Weight-sensitive applications—from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—rely on this advantage.

Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust in a wet climate like Easthampton's?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron, the element that oxidizes and corrodes. When aluminum is scratched, it forms a new oxide layer instantly—this self-healing process repeats indefinitely. Easthampton's wet climate (about 1,127 mm rain annually and 105 freeze-thaw days per year) would accelerate rust on steel roofing, but roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is naturally immune. Interlock panels are also coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides—extra insurance in humid or salt-air environments. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime and the next owner for 50 years from completion. Steel roofing requires protective coatings that wear down; aluminum's corrosion immunity is permanent.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Easthampton's climate?

Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it. Some finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, with thermal emissivity rated 0.84 by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Easthampton's 3,082 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces the heat absorbed into your home, lowering cooling costs during warm months. Asphalt shingles absorb and radiate heat; metal roofing's reflective properties work passively year-round. The effect compounds over a long roof life—reflected heat over 25 or 30 years translates to measurable energy savings. Combined with the 30-year warranty on the coating's reflectance (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), you maintain cooling efficiency without degradation. This is particularly valuable given Easthampton's mix of sunny days and heavy rainfall, where reflective properties protect against both heat gain and UV fading.

What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and could I save on insurance in Easthampton?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact resistance is exceptional; most roofing materials fall into Class 1 or 2. This rating may qualify you for homeowner's insurance discounts. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation to explore reduced premiums. Easthampton's climate includes severe weather risk, and metal roofing's proven impact resistance appeals to insurers. The non-combustible aluminum construction also meets Class A fire classification requirements, which further reduces risk assessment. Over a roof's lifetime, insurance savings compound substantially. The durability rating isn't just marketing—it's backed by third-party testing and a warranty that covers impact damage.

How long will an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock roofs last 40+ years routinely—some installations from 1998 remain in service. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. This means you're not just buying a roof; you're buying peace of mind for two owner lifecycles. The 30-year warranty on Alunar 70% PVDF coating color retention (ASTM D4214/D2244) ensures your roof looks new in Easthampton's climate with about 1,127 mm rainfall and 105 freeze-thaw cycles annually. Unlike asphalt, which degrades under freeze-thaw stress, aluminum's durability extends warranty claims to rare failures. Most homeowners install once and never reroof.

What maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance—occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal, mainly. Unlike asphalt shingles, which need regular inspection for cracks, curling, and granule loss (especially after Easthampton's 105 freeze-thaw days per year), Interlock panels don't degrade seasonally. Wood shakes split and curl under freeze-thaw cycling and require professional treatments to resist rot and insects. Metal roofing has no granules to shed, no tar to soften in summer, no wood fibers to absorb moisture. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214), so repainting isn't needed. A rinse with water removes light debris; that's professional-grade maintenance. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements. Over 40+ years, you'll spend far less time and money maintaining a metal roof than replacing asphalt every 15-20 years or repairing wood shakes.
