Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Leeds, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I've had an Interlock metal roof on my house and garden shed for two years now. It's absolutely gorgeous. Everyone thinks it's a slate roof! I've had no problems with it. The installation was amazing! A crew of 11 showed up early in the morning and were almost completely done in one day on both buildings. They were so professional. I highly recommend Interlock for both their high quality product and their great people.
I just had a brand new Dark Grey Metal Roof by INTERLOCK installed. I found everyone that I dealt with from Jonathan Brown in sales and Jennifer Simons in the office and to the crew that did an excellent job ( they were very hard workers)! I am pleased with the outcome of the roof. It looks wonderful, I would highly recommend interlock to anyone who Is looking for a quality roof and excellent and professional installation.
Just a note about the roof we installed in March of 2003. The first thing that we have to say is that the roof looks wonderful; it’s the best one on the street. A neighbor two houses down the street had a new asphalt roof installed shortly after we had our Interlock Roof installed. The neighbor across the street remarked that our roof looked a lot better than the neighbor's. We have had quite a few neighbors stop and ask about the roof and remark how good it looks. Having the chimney flashed with a solid flashing (instead of step flashing) and the ducts matching the roof really makes the roof look finished off. Also, having them put vents on the back which match the roof looks finished off, so they are not noticeable. As far as the workmen and the quality of workmanship, we feel that it was done very professionally. We asked that they not start working until 8:00 am, and they waited until 8:30 am to start. They kept the grounds very clean even when they were stripping the roof. They hung tarps so nothing could or would damage either the house or any plants which are around the house. They were very friendly and courteous. In closing, we are very pleased with the roof and the professionalism of the workers.
We recently had your Interlock Roofing System installed on our home. It has now been about 3 months since the roof was installed. We receive many compliments on how beautiful the roof looks. Your installers were polite, fast, cleaned up the area daily and did a full clean up after the job was completed.
Very pleased so far.
They broke the dish to my internet, when they were on the roof. I had to have it fixed myself.
I decided to go with an asphalt roofer instead.
Site cleanup. Some materials (nails, metal, trash) were missed and left on the lawn or around the yard.
The expense was too high for our project
I could speak to another company representative and discuss the pricing aspect of it. I am really reached out at this point. I do not have a lot of faith because of the price aspect. I am interested in the commute with the price aspect with someone.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Leeds
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Leeds, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Leeds.
How does metal roofing handle the snow load in Leeds winters?
Interlock's aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because of their smooth, interlocked design and light weight—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile. Leeds averages roughly 119 cm of snow annually, and the panels' low mass means no structural reinforcement is needed, even over existing roofs. The four-way interlocking edges prevent wind-driven snow from entering seams. Snow slides cleanly off the smooth surface rather than accumulating like it does on asphalt.
Will a metal roof survive Leeds's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes. The region experiences approximately 105 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum's material properties handle this better than asphalt or wood. Aluminum has no wood fibers to split and contains no iron, so it cannot rust even when moisture penetrates. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels maintains its structural integrity through repeated temperature swings. The Alunar coating (30-year warranty, ASTM D4214/D2244 tested) adds a protective barrier that slows oxidation.
Can Interlock roofing hold up to wind gusts in Leeds?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph. Leeds sees typical gusts around 114 km/h (71 mph), with occasional stronger storms, making this margin significant. The interlocking system distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than stressing individual fasteners. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the installation method meets IBC/IRC wind requirements for this region.
How are leaks prevented with 1,127 mm of annual rain in Leeds?
The four-way interlocking profile creates a labyrinth that sheds water downslope before it can pool or find a seam. The male-female interlock margins overlap, directing water outward rather than inward. Installation over solid decking with underlayment—the same method asphalt roofs use—adds a secondary barrier. This combination has proven effective in coastal salt-air installations and in much wetter climates, ensuring heavy rainfall drains rather than penetrates.
Why does aluminum roofing not rust like steel?
Aluminum contains no iron, so rust—which is iron oxide—cannot form. The material naturally develops a thin, self-healing aluminum oxide layer that re-forms if scratched, protecting the underlying metal indefinitely. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) with a 70% PVDF Alunar coating applied to both sides for extra corrosion defense. This dual-layer protection is especially valuable in Leeds's moisture-heavy climate of 119 cm snow and 1,127 mm rain annually.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes, because Interlock panels weigh remarkably little. The Slate and Shingle profiles install at approximately 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heavier Mediterranean Tile is about 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile. This allows installation over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. Leeds homeowners avoid the expense and disruption of tearing off old asphalt. Building inspectors accept the lightweight panels over existing decking because structural load remains negligible.
What impact rating does metal roofing have for hail?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This level of impact resistance may qualify you for insurance discounts; contact your carrier with the UL 2218 Class 4 certificate. Aluminum's inherent strength and the rigid panel system absorb impact without cracking or deforming like asphalt or wood shake shingles.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles deteriorate over 15–20 years and need replacements; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks and requires regrouting. Interlock aluminum panels need only occasional gutter cleaning and inspection. The Alunar coating resists chalking and fading (30-year warranty) and won't degrade from Leeds's 119 cm annual snowfall or 1,127 mm rain. The solid aluminum material doesn't weather, split, or lose functionality over time.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale appeal. Few roofing products offer this promise. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 rated), the system is designed to outlast multiple asphalt cycles and deliver decades of protection in Leeds's climate.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, when calculated over the life of the roof. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require tear-off and disposal; you'll replace them 2–3 times in the span of a single Interlock installation. Metal eliminates the recurring labor, landfill fees, and material costs of replacement cycles. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—reduces the initial barrier. A roof installed today with the Guardian lifetime warranty becomes the last roof most Leeds homeowners will buy.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Leeds’s climate?
Yes. Leeds averages about 119 cm of snow, 1127 mm of rain, roughly 105 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 114 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
