Incredible best describes our new Interlock roof, and lots of compliments from everyone who stops to admire this roof. The aged copper color is beautiful, especially in the morning sun and again in the late afternoon evening sun set. There is a big difference in the overall temperature of the entire house cooler, especially the upstairs areas on these sunny hot summer days. The installer Alex, was an expert at detailing this Interlock roofing system. The complete roof came out picture perfect with virtually no mess. Our only concern with the ">aluminum roof was noise from heavy rain storms. Well after five storms to date, one with small " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail, there was NO NOISE. This aluminum roofing system is truly state of the art high tech material and design. Definitely impressive but well worth it with it's plus advantages over conventional asphalt and fiberglass design materials. Our neighbors with their new conventional shingle roofs are eye opening proof that this Interlock Aluminum system is truly the best, complete with a lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty, owner transferable certificate. Nobody else in our neighborhood has a 50 year roof warranty certificate.

The roof was installed over 20 years ago. I called this morning and someone came by within a couple of hours and spent a few hours here and didn't leave until it was fixed. Couldn't possibly ask for more.

Dear Interlock Management, As promised I am writing you a follow up letter sharing our experience regarding the purchase and installation of our new Interlock Roof. Long before we received your introductory mailing my wife and I had already had our minds set on eventually installing an Interlock Roof. Our reasoning was simple. We only wanted to install one more roof in our lifetime, and we were very interested in the looks, durability and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty of your product. As an experienced service and installation manager myself, I am very familiar with the fact that many jobs have their surprises, and sometimes despite planning things go wrong. What really matters is how those instances are dealt with. As in our case, the first day the crew did not arrive until several hours later than expected due to issues back at the warehouse. The Customer Service Manager I believe, Miranda was very apologetic and did try to explain as well as got back to me with status on their expected arrival. The late arrival was quickly put behind us as upon arrival your crew without walking around or discussion divided and began what was a dynamic, organized and efficient process of setting up and beginning installation like nothing we or our neighbors have ever seen. In just a few hours they had stripped two layers of roofing off the house and garage, did some repair work, papered the roof and had half the garage and the front half of the main roof complete. On day two they completed the install and did an incredible job of cleaning up. This included every member of the crew walking my property to insure not one nail was left to step on, or cause tire damage. Our second surprise or problem was detected after their departure which was related to the fact that the back half of our roof had to be done in neoprene and the drip edge was not only different but was white instead of black causing our roof to look incomplete. I believe we both learned something that day. Your company for the future will be able to point this out up front and offer to paint the the edging in advance of the installation. In our case you had a man here the next day and he painted the drip edge to match the front half of the house and shingles. We also had two separate follow up visits from your quality control people to inspect the job for proper install and completion. In summary we are very pleased with our roof and the diligence of your hard working, professional crew. We without a doubt have the best looking roof in the neighborhood, bar none.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Groton

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Groton, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Groton.

Will a metal roof hold up through Groton's freeze-thaw winters?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer self-heals when micro-scratches occur during freeze-thaw cycling—Groton experiences about 93 freeze-thaw days annually. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) cannot rust or rot, so repeated wetting and freezing won't degrade the material itself. The four-way interlocking design also prevents water infiltration that causes ice dams. Your metal roof handles what asphalt cannot: it stays intact through decades of Groton's winter stress.

How does a metal roof perform under Groton's snow load?

Metal roofing sheds heavy snow efficiently. Groton averages about 123 cm of snow yearly, and the smooth aluminum surface encourages natural shedding rather than accumulation. The lightweight profile—the Shake installs at roughly 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even under maximum snow load. The four-way interlocking panels seal tightly, preventing the melt-and-freeze cycles that create ice dams under asphalt. Add optional snow guards if you want controlled release, but the geometry itself protects your home.

With Groton getting over 1000 mm of rain annually, how does metal roofing stay leak-free?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in both directions, creating a labyrinthine water-shedding path that defeats heavy rainfall. Groton's typical 1058 mm per year requires aggressive water management; the panel geometry channels water downslope and outward, never allowing ponding or sideways seepage. Proper installation to ESR-1790 spec (IBC/IRC) with solid deck and underlayment ensures water runs off, not in. The result is complete leak protection under the continuous rain your region receives.

Can metal roofing withstand Groton's wind and coastal gusts?

Absolutely. Interlock Metal Roofing is warranted to resist 120 mph winds when installed to spec—Groton's typical gusts reach about 104 km/h (65 mph), well within that capacity. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors in all directions, distributing lateral force across the entire roof plane rather than individual fasteners. The lightweight aluminum (no structural load) also means less wind uplift pressure. Coastal regions from British Columbia to Antarctic stations use this product; your Middlesex County location faces considerably milder wind stress than those environments.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Steel roofs rust because iron oxidizes and flakes away. Aluminum cannot rust—the metal contains zero iron, and its oxide layer actually protects the substrate and self-heals when scratched (verified in coastal salt-air installations since 1998). Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides adds a 30-year fade/chalk warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244), so even the finish resists the moisture and freeze-thaw stress Groton's 93 annual freeze-thaw days create. Your roof will look and function identically in year 25 as year 5, without rust stains or structural decay.

Does metal roofing help with hail damage or insurance costs in Massachusetts?

Interlock Metal Roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Groton's climate does not feature severe hail, the unmatched impact resistance often qualifies you for homeowner's insurance discounts. The rigid aluminum alloy simply does not dent, crack, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt or wood does. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 report; many carriers recognize this durability and reduce your premium.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Metal roofing reflects rather than absorbs solar heat. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Groton receives about 3054 sunshine hours yearly—every one of those represents heat you're not absorbing into your attic. Reflective aluminum redirects that energy away from your home, lowering cooling load during summer months. The lightweight design also allows better attic ventilation than heavy asphalt, compounding the cooling benefit. Over a 50-year roof life, the energy savings add up considerably.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from roof completion—a powerful selling point if you ever move. With the roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year fade/chalk warranty), the material itself easily outlasts the warranty terms. You're buying your last residential roof; the warranty simply puts that durability in writing.

Can a metal roof install over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes, in most cases. The metal roof's extraordinary lightness—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means structural reinforcement is rarely needed. Installation over existing asphalt roof decks is standard practice and saves you the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., serving this region since 1999, evaluates your existing structure to confirm load capacity and ensure compliance with ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC). A typical installation takes days, not weeks. The faster timeline and no tear-off disposal means lower total project cost and less neighborhood disruption.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable—at end of life, your metal roof becomes raw material for new products rather than landfill waste. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–25 years and buried. Over your roof's 50+ year lifespan, you eliminate multiple tear-off cycles and their environmental cost. Interlock Metal Roofing, manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, uses sustainable sourcing, and the CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden (no chemical treatments, no early replacement). Choosing aluminum breaks the asphalt disposal cycle and leaves a smaller footprint for the next generation.
