| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |

What our customers are saying:
They could have improved, and I think it starts with the salesman. I think the contract should have been clearer. The roofer get the plan of the house as to what is going where, and I think the customer should receive a copy too. Then they can check to sure the right materials, snow guards, and whether the bay window suppose to done, front porch to be done, etc. The salesperson was asking if I really wanted it done, and that should have been spelled out. I assumed he was doing that and giving it to the workers, such as the bay windows, porches, etc. It should be spelled out in the contract that it would be shingles, and snow guards, but the customer should have a plan of the home so that we know that is what the roofers have, and it is being done corrected. I am happy with the product, happy with the installers, but not so happy with the Company. It was just a week ago that it was installed. You buy a new car, and next week you have an engine problem, so it is hard to say. So far what we have seen we are happy with the product. It was a difficult process working with our salesperson, and that is where it all started. There was miscommunication with the Company. We had a starting date, and no one showed up. I called and ask to have it postponed for a week. I made up to three phone calls. I was supposed to have 10 snow guards put on my roof, and that wasn't on the plan they had. They called their boss, and he said put up three and no one was in contact with me and they were referring to their boss. I now have three snow guards instead of ten. There were miscommunications.
I was not told the snow would slid off the roof so quickly. We now have damage to our upper balcony from the snow crashing down. Very upset with this. I will have to hire a contractor in the spring to fix my balcony and install something on the roof to stop this from happening. The sales people need to make owners aware of this!
We had a question about solar roofing panels and the knowledge of the solar roofing panels were mixed on the phone it was one thing and in person it was another.
You should stipulate that the subcontractor always have someone on site who speaks English. This didn't create an issue but it could have.
The quality of the work in the trimming and finishing around the edges, for the most part, was good, but there were several areas where they had to come back and fix. The first day the crew lead was there, but after that there was no one I could talk to to address concerns due to the language barrier. In general, I am satisfied with the work. I received compliments on the roof. I expected to be taken care of more for the cost that was paid this is a high-end product and I didn't receive it.
I wasn't happy with the financing. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to swing it because the interest rate changed from what was given to me over the phone (which was 10.8) to what was on paper (12+ %) The interest rate was high and I felt pressured. I didn't like the pressure. They should send the paperwork with communication regarding the interest rate instead of the way it happened.
2.5 They definitely could have improved the schedule communication, there wasn't any.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Dunstable
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Dunstable, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Dunstable.
How does a metal roof handle Dunstable's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because aluminum expands and contracts smoothly, preventing ice dam buildup that occurs with traditional shingles during the region's roughly 93 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels remain watertight through this cycling since the panels move as one unit. With about 120 cm of annual snowfall, the light weight of Interlock panels (the Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is required, even when snow temporarily sits on the roof. Snow guards are available if you prefer to control shedding.
Why won't a metal roof rust in New England's wet climate?
Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy that contains no iron, so rusting is physically impossible. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; when scratched, that layer reforms automatically. This matters in Dunstable, where you get about 1058 mm of rain annually—an asphalt roof absorbs moisture and promotes rot, but aluminum simply sheds it. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides adds 30 years of color and chalking protection (ASTM D4214 rated), giving you a barrier that bridges any gaps in the oxide layer.
Is a metal roof really cheaper than asphalt over time in Dunstable?
Over 50+ years, Interlock costs less per year than replacing asphalt every 15–20 years. Your first Interlock roof is your last roof. The material is covered by a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and remains transferable for 50 years, so the math compounds: no tear-off labor, no landfill fees, no re-roofing disruption. Dunstable's ~3054 sunshine hours per year and frequent rain means asphalt shingles degrade faster here than in drier climates. Right now, we're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, which locks in your long-term savings immediately.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Most homes need no structural work. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, despite its authentic appearance, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile. This means you can install Interlock directly over most existing roofs, avoiding the expense and disruption of tear-off and structural upgrades. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) confirms code compliance for retrofit installation under IBC/IRC standards. A local assessment by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. will verify your specific situation, but lightweight aluminum typically means fewer surprises during installation.
Will a metal roof blow off in Dunstable's wind and storms?
No. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well beyond Dunstable's typical gusts of about 104 km/h. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than stressing fasteners alone. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms this performance under IBC/IRC wind load tables. In the region's windiest conditions, this overlap-and-lock engineering outperforms shingle nailing, which gradually loosens over the roughly 3054 sunshine hours and seasonal temperature swings your roof experiences annually.
Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and will my insurance cover it?
Interlock panels carry the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies metal roofs for insurance discounts that offset or exceed the cost difference versus asphalt. Hail is less frequent in Dunstable than in western states, but when it occurs, the aluminum's hardness and the panel's support layer absorb impact without the cracking, splitting, or granule loss that makes asphalt vulnerable. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification; many carriers recognize this rating and adjust your premium accordingly.
Is a metal roof safe from fire?
Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and available with a Class A fire rating—the highest classification. This matters because metal roofs don't ignite, combust, or spread flame, even if embers from a neighboring fire land on your roof during the roughly 3054 sunshine hours when dry conditions are possible. The Class A rating also qualifies many metal roofs for home insurance discounts and meets CALGreen building standards for reduced maintenance and safety. If fire rating is required by your municipality or lender, specify Class A when you request your quote from Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc.
Does a metal roof really keep a house cooler?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it, reducing cooling costs year-round. The reflectance of select colors reaches up to 0.55 initially, with thermal emissivity of 0.84 throughout the roof's life. In Dunstable's roughly 3054 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance cuts the heat load that asphalt shingles absorb and transfer into your attic. The effect is most noticeable on sunny days between spring and fall, but the Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy savings. Lighter colors amplify this benefit; darker Interlock profiles still outperform asphalt because aluminum conducts and radiates heat more efficiently than organic shingles.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles, which granulate and curl, or wood shakes, which rot and split, aluminum panels don't degrade from weather exposure. You won't need to replace individual shingles, seal cracks, or apply treatments. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection for debris after heavy storms—Dunstable receives about 1058 mm of rain annually—is standard for any roof. The Alunar® coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, so repainting is unnecessary. CALGreen-verified for maintenance reduction, Interlock frees you from the annual upkeep that asphalt and wood demand.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and remains recoverable at end of life—no landfill contribution. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–20 years and dumped in landfills by the millions of tons annually. Over 50+ years, one Interlock roof eliminates the environmental cost of three or four asphalt replacements, plus the trucks, labor, and disposal emissions that each tear-off generates. Dunstable's roughly 1058 mm of annual rainfall doesn't harm aluminum's recyclability; the material degrades zero over time, making it endlessly valuable as scrap. Choosing Interlock closes the asphalt cycle and supports true circular material economy.
