Review: April 22, 2004 Completion: April 22, 2004

This letter is in regard to our recent purchase and installation of an Interlock Roofing System at our home on 7 Shingle Island Lane in North Dartmouth. We experienced a failing asphalt roof after only 14 years! After a bit of research on the internet, we investigated and decided on an Interlock Roofing System. Our salesman Michael Furman was outstanding. He was friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and very professional and he answered all our questions pertaining to the materials and their installation. He assured us that our concerns on certain roof areas of our Log Home would be addressed and appropriate materials would be used. He was right! We have a beautiful new green Interlock roof that looks amazing with the dark stained logs! Alex and his crew did an outstanding job during the installation and especially paid attention to the details we were initially concerned with. The crew was hard-working, courteous, and always professional. They were very patient in answering ALL our questions about the installation and challenging areas around the Log dormers and multiple skylights. They worked long days showing much tolerance and patience despite all the rain, cold and wind March/early April threw at them! They made sure at each day's end to clean thoroughly and secure the worksite before leaving. Our neighbors have commented on what a great-looking roof it is and the great job the installers did as well. We've even had people drive down our street from the main road upon seeing the roof to comment on its outstanding look. Many of them have been following the progress since its start. We are so pleased with the final results! It is a very attractive, "rich" looking roof and makes our log home look once again like it was just built! We do highly recommend your product and your company to anyone who is considering a new roof. We are looking forward to a future without facing roof replacement again! Thank you for an excellent product and outstanding service from your company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Dartmouth

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Dartmouth.

Will a metal roof handle Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum's non-porous structure means water cannot penetrate and expand when frozen, unlike asphalt that absorbs moisture and degrades through roughly 64 freeze-thaw cycles per year in North Dartmouth. Aluminum oxide forms a self-healing protective layer, so the material remains dimensionally stable even as temperatures swing between seasons. After 27 years of installations across similar climates, Interlock panels show no cracking or deterioration from freeze-thaw stress, whereas asphalt shingles typically curl and split within 15–20 years under identical conditions.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in North Dartmouth winters?

Metal roofing with four-way interlocking panels sheds snow efficiently due to panel slope and smooth surface, reducing ice dam formation that plagues asphalt in regions receiving about 67 cm of snow annually. The Interlock® Shake profile weighs only ~0.58 lb/sq ft, so your existing structure needs no reinforcement despite the area's winter weather. Optional snow guards can be installed to control controlled release if desired. The smooth, slippery aluminum surface naturally encourages snow and ice to slide rather than accumulate, protecting gutters and soffits from the freeze-thaw stress that damages traditional roofs.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel for salty, rainy Massachusetts weather?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and degrades. Instead, aluminum immediately forms a thin, transparent oxide layer that protects the metal beneath; if scratched, this oxide self-heals automatically. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides adds 30-year warranty protection against salt-air corrosion, an extra advantage for coastal Massachusetts. After 26 years manufacturing in Delta, BC and installing roofs from salt-spray environments to Antarctica, Interlock has no corrosion failures on record. This makes aluminum the only non-ferrous roofing metal suitable for North Dartmouth's salt-influenced air and 1210 mm annual rainfall.

Can a metal roof withstand North Dartmouth's coastal wind gusts?

Yes—the warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above the gusts that typically reach 178 km/h in this region. Four-way interlocking aluminum panels grip each other, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms this panel design meets IBC/IRC wind standards for coastal New England. Over 25+ years, Interlock installations have survived nor'easters and coastal storms without panel lift or displacement, whereas traditional asphalt and tile roofs frequently sustain wind damage in similar conditions.

Will I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock® Mediterranean Tile weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most existing roof structures can support it without modification. This is crucial in North Dartmouth, where many homes were built decades ago with framing designed for standard asphalt. The lightweight aluminum profile means you can install new roofing over your existing structure and even over old asphalt shingles, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal. Shake and Slate profiles are equally light, making them practical retrofits where structural upgrades would otherwise be prohibitively expensive.

How does metal roofing prevent leaks in a climate with 1200+ mm of annual rain?

Four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap on all sides, creating a labyrinth that sheds water downward before it can penetrate seams. North Dartmouth receives about 1210 mm of rain yearly, and the panel design ensures water flows laterally across overlapping edges and then down the roof slope. Fasteners are hidden within panel joints, eliminating exposed fastener holes where leaks typically start. When installed over solid deck and synthetic underlayment, this system performs identically to asphalt in heavy-rain tests. The Guardian warranty covers water infiltration, and 27 years of installations confirm zero leak failures when installed to specification.

Does metal roofing reduce hail damage and insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies homeowners for homeowners' insurance discounts because aluminum doesn't dent or crack under hail impact the way asphalt, wood, and clay do. Some insurers recognize Interlock's 27-year hail-impact history and reduce premiums accordingly. While North Dartmouth's climate doesn't feature frequent large hail, the Class 4 rating means your roof won't be a maintenance concern during isolated severe storms—a real advantage over asphalt shingles, which require inspection and replacement after significant hail.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Metal roofing costs more initially but lasts 50+ years versus 15–20 for asphalt, making it the last roof you'll buy. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated and transferable, so the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, protecting your resale value. Over a 50-year ownership period, metal roofing eliminates multiple tear-off and replacement cycles; asphalt requires four or five complete replacements, generating landfill waste and labor costs. North Dartmouth's 67 cm of snow and 1210 mm rainfall accelerate asphalt degradation, shortening replacement intervals. Current financing includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—terms that improve the return-on-investment comparison substantially.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect up to 55% of solar heat away from your home, compared to asphalt's typical 5–10% reflectance. The roofing's thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated) means absorbed heat is quickly re-radiated rather than stored. North Dartmouth receives about 3103 sunshine hours annually, so summer cooling load reductions compound over time. Dark energy-efficiency colors still reflect significantly more heat than dark asphalt, lowering air-conditioning demand on hot days. While winter heating dominates the region's energy profile, the reflective advantage in summer months reduces peak demand, lowering seasonal cooling bills and extending HVAC system life.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in North Dartmouth?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served North Dartmouth and Bristol County since 1999, giving local homeowners 26 years of regional expertise. The team understands Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles, salt-air corrosion, heavy snow loads (about 67 cm annually), and coastal wind gusts (up to 178 km/h), tailoring installation to local conditions.
