Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I have had the cedar aluminum shingled style roof for about 15 years and it looks just as good as the day it was installed. Have not had one issue with it. I highly recommend it.
We have had significant damage due to water leaks inside our house over the past 5-6 years. The reasons behind these leaks were ice dams and icicles. Our house is facing north. It gets minimum or no direct sun exposure most winter months. Repairs were costly. The problem, however, would recur every winter. Our roof was about 15-year old and it was not in a bad shape. We had a contractor installing a reinforcement felt in the area of interest (cost about four thousand dollars labor and material) but failed to correct the issue. After a thorough research, we were left to choose between electrical panels or a metal roof. We opted for the later, for both, safety and aesthetic reasons. We found Interlock Industries through internet-Google- search. We are pleased with our 2 choices (metal roof and Interlock) for the following reasons, with few remarks: Estimate and contract Done properly, in a pressure-free environment. Larry Ebbs understood and executed his role well. Communication and coordination With the central office were excellent (Jennifer Simons) Execution A highly professional crew. Neat, detail-oriented, highly efficient, and courteous workers. Two caveats: The crew who worked on our house was not fluent in English, and communication, when occasionally needed, had to happen over a cell phone. The start was phenomenally fast; completing the job dragged a bit longer. Cost Expensive upfront. About 3 times the cost of a shingle roof; cost will go down to about 2.5x with discounts and incentives. Financing option is available, but the interest rate is relatively high. A " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tax credit is available since (Interlock) metal roofs are energy efficient. Head Roofer Paul McAllister is outstanding (as a person and as far as quality of work). In addition to the metal roof, Paul and his crew successfully fixed a chronic leak from a small flat roof in the back of the house. This is a leak that we tried to repair at least twice (different contractors) without success. Results \* Functionality: We have had 2 major snow storms this winter, between 12-15 inches of snow each time, comparable to prior years. We are delighted to announce that we have not had any leaks. " title="Ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Ice dams continued to form, mainly in the northern section of the house (where the insulation, we believe, is imperfect), but they are much smaller in size and fewer in number. No further icicles noted (make sure you don’t stand underneath the roof after a snowy day, as the snow slides off the roof like an avalanche). One downside is the noise caused by the rain drops. This noise is here to stay and will bother some people. \* Appearance: The roof look is outstanding. Sharp and perfect geometry. The color contrasts nicely with the paint. Overall If you live in a snowy region, and you are planning on replacing the roof of your home for functional or aesthetic reasons, or for both, I highly recommend metal roofing. I also recommend metal roofing for new constructions in these areas as well. If you decide to go with a metal roof, Interlock Industries (New England) will meet or exceed your expectations.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock.
Will a metal roof handle Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or slate?
Yes—aluminum's crystal structure doesn't degrade when water freezes and thaws in cracks, unlike asphalt shingles and stone slate. Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, which accelerates aging in brittle materials. Aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer when scratched, and the Alunar 70% PVDF finish on both panel sides protects against the salt air that worsens corrosion in winter thaws. Your metal roof simply doesn't absorb moisture the way asphalt does, so expansion and contraction won't crack or curl the material.
How does a metal roof perform under Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock's winter snow load?
Metal roofs excel in heavy snow regions because the smooth surface allows snow to slide safely rather than accumulate indefinitely. Your area averages about 71 cm of snow annually, plus roughly 1179 mm of rain—both handled perfectly by the four-way interlocking aluminum panels and their tight seams. The Shake profile, for example, weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft, so no structural reinforcement is necessary, and gutters won't bear the crushing weight of traditional tile. Optional snow guards are available if you prefer to manage melt-off more gradually, but many homeowners here appreciate the self-clearing benefit during nor'easters.
Does heavy rainfall leak through a metal roof, especially at the seams?
No—the four-way interlocking panel design prevents water infiltration at seams by directing rainfall downward and outward, not inward. With roughly 1179 mm of rain annually in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock, your roof experiences real-world test conditions, and Interlock's aluminum panels are manufactured to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards (IBC/IRC code compliance). When installed to specification over solid decking with underlayment, the system performs identically to asphalt shingles in terms of leak resistance. The difference: asphalt deteriorates within 20–25 years; aluminum never absorbs water, so the seals remain watertight for life.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a coastal Massachusetts location?
Aluminum roofs cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron, and the metal naturally forms a protective oxide layer when exposed to air. In coastal New England, salt air corrodes steel roofing aggressively; Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock homeowners in salt-spray zones benefit enormously from aluminum's immunity. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF coating applied to both sides—extra protection for salt environments. If the oxide layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically, which means even accidental damage won't initiate rust like it would on steel.
Will my metal roof withstand the nor'easter gusts we get in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock?
Yes—the panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well beyond the typical gusts around 139 km/h (86 mph) recorded in your area. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than allowing individual panel uplift. Even extreme gusts during coastal storms don't break the seals or panels because the mechanical interlock is independent of fasteners alone. Combined with the lightweight aluminum construction—about 96% lighter than concrete tile—you get superior wind performance without the structural strain that heavy roofing materials demand.
Does a UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating help with homeowner's insurance in Massachusetts?
Absolutely—insurance carriers often reward the highest impact rating with discounted premiums. Interlock's aluminum panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 certification, the top available rating, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Contact your insurer to ask if installing a Class 4 roof qualifies you for a deductible reduction or premium adjustment; many New England underwriters recognize this benefit. Class 4 also means you're protected against impacts that would dent or crack asphalt, slate, or tile, so you'll likely avoid claim headaches altogether in a region where spring hail is occasional but possible.
Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt when you factor in the total cost over time?
Upfront cost is higher, but total cost of ownership strongly favors metal. An asphalt roof lasts 20–25 years and requires tear-off, landfill disposal, and reinstallation two or three times in a 60–75 year period; a metal roof is your last roof. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated for the original owner) and transferable to the next owner for 50 years, protecting your investment through decades of Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock's roughly 69 freeze-thaw cycles per year and 3072 sunshine hours. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or take 10% off installation. Spread the investment across the roof's 50+ year lifespan and the aluminum cost per year drops well below repeated asphalt replacements.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing shingles without reinforcing the structure?
Yes—aluminum's light weight is one of its greatest practical advantages. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so your existing framing typically requires no reinforcement. You can install Interlock panels directly over most asphalt roofs, saving the cost and mess of tear-off. The Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft, all falling well within the load limits of standard residential framing in Massachusetts. A structural engineer can confirm your specific situation, but most homeowners in Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock avoid costly reinforcement entirely by choosing metal.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or slate?
Metal requires far less maintenance than either alternative. Asphalt shingles need moss removal, algae treatment, and regular inspection for curling and deterioration; slate demands expensive repairs when individual pieces split from freeze-thaw stress or impact. Aluminum panels are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, and the Alunar coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) stays clean during Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock's roughly 1179 mm of annual rainfall—the rain itself is your cleaning cycle. You won't replace individual panels, patch cracks, or refinish the surface. Professional inspection every 5–10 years is prudent; cleaning gutters remains necessary, but that's required for any roof.
Can choosing the right metal roof color reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Yes—energy-efficient colors with high solar reflectance reduce the heat absorbed by your home. Interlock's Aged Copper Penny color, for example, reflects up to 0.55 of incoming solar radiation and has thermal emissivity of 0.84, which means the roof releases absorbed heat quickly instead of transferring it indoors. Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock receives about 3072 sunshine hours per year, so this reflectance advantage compounds across thousands of hours of summer and fall warmth. You'll notice lower air-conditioning bills, especially on south and west-facing slopes, without sacrificing the aesthetic of slate, shake, or tile. The Cool Roof Rating Council rate these benefits independently, confirming the energy savings are real and measurable.
