Review: April 9, 2006

My wife and I met Mike Furman at the Home Show in Foxboro this past winter. I had asked about the system in other years but got so turned off by the salesperson I never stayed to talk. This year was the first time we’ve seen Mike. We started to talk with him and were readily put at ease. We were so comfortable talking with Mike that we agreed to have him come to our home and really talk business. Mike has a wonderful way of explaining the Interlock system. Not only is he intelligent and professional, but he is also patient. He never talked down to us or over our heads. He was always neatly dressed but not in a stuffy business suit, someone you could relate to. The roofing crew led by Bakha, Alex (a great craftsman!) and the rest were a pleasure to deal with. They were very polite and accommodating. They worked some very hard, long hours to get the job done. They had to work around New England’s typical weather: sun, rain, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail, snow and wind. The weather delayed them a little, but they were soon done with the job. They cleaned up each night before they left, so we never had to worry about getting nails in our car tires. The roof, it’s beautiful! It complements the style and design of our house. My wife said she had never looked at our roof much before, but now she stops in the driveway to admire it. Our biggest concern about it being noisy in the rain was taken care of. Mike was right! You really don’t hear the rain any more than before. About four years ago, a friend of mine, George, from Berkley, MA, had gotten a metal roof. He loved it and always talked well about it. He has been answering my questions about it over the years and invited my wife and me to see it before we bought it. His is the Interlock system too. Since I’ve been talking to George for the past four years about your roofing system, I believe he should be given a “finders fee.” Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Raynham

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Raynham, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Raynham.

How does a metal roof handle Raynham's 75 cm of annual snowfall and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams from forming. Raynham averages about 84 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which causes traditional shingles to crack and curl—but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals and flexes without damage. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that no water seeps through, even when snow melts and refreezes. Snow guards can be added if you want to control where snow slides, but the roof itself won't fail under winter stress.

Why does a metal roof outperform asphalt in freeze-thaw climates like ours?

Asphalt shingles are porous and absorb moisture; when water inside them freezes and thaws 84 times annually—as Raynham experiences—the repeated expansion and contraction cracks, curls, and splits the material. Aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust, and its non-porous structure means water doesn't penetrate and freeze within the panel itself. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy is engineered to expand and contract without cracking, even through decades of Raynham's harsh winter cycles. This is why the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers splitting and cracking for the lifetime of your home.

Is a metal roof safe during Raynham's wind gusts, which can reach 135 km/h?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Raynham's typical gusts of 135 km/h. The panels lock together so securely that wind cannot lift or separate them, and the lightweight design—the Shingle profile weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft—means wind pressure acts on less mass, reducing stress on fasteners and framing. This is why the roof meets ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 for structural integrity in high-wind regions. Your existing framing won't need reinforcement.

With 1,194 mm of rain annually in Raynham, how do I know my roof won't leak?

The four-way interlocking panel design creates a labyrinth that sheds water outward and downward; water cannot flow backward under the panels no matter how hard the rain falls. Each panel overlaps its neighbor in four directions, so even 1,200 mm of annual rainfall has nowhere to enter. Pair this with a solid deck and quality underlayment underneath—standard practice for all installations—and you have the same leak protection as a slate roof, with zero maintenance. Raynham's rain volume is handled the same way as coastal British Columbia, where this aluminum roof has stood for 25 years.

Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance costs after a hail event?

Interlock's aluminum roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the roof won't dent or dimple the way asphalt or traditional metal absorbs hail damage. Check with your insurer about your specific policy, but many carriers recognize the durability and reduce premiums or remove hail-damage deductibles. In Raynham's climate, this protection is both a real benefit and a financial one.

Can I use a metal roof to lower cooling costs during Raynham's summer?

energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat away from your home instead of absorbing it like dark asphalt does. Over a year with 3,062 sunshine hours in Raynham, this reflection compounds into measurable cooling savings, especially on southwest-facing roofs. The Cool Roof Rating Council has verified these values, so you're not buying a marketing claim—you're buying a measured, transferable energy benefit. White and light-metal finishes work best, but even darker energy-efficiency colors outperform asphalt in summer heat.

Do I need to reinforce my house's frame to support a metal roof?

No. Interlock's Tile profile, which replicates the visual weight of slate or clay, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real materials it resembles. Most homes can install Interlock over their existing asphalt roof without any structural changes. A roofer will inspect your current deck during installation, but the aluminum's feather-light footprint means no engineer's sign-off, no steel beams, no costly framing upgrades. This is why the product can retrofit homes that slate, concrete tile, or cedar shake would require reinforcement to support.

Why do you say aluminum can't rust, and what does that mean for Raynham homes?

Aluminum contains no iron, so rust—which is iron oxide—is chemically impossible. When aluminum is exposed to air, it forms a thin oxide layer that acts as a natural barrier; if that layer scratches, it self-heals within days. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of each panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) adds another layer of protection. In Raynham's humid, freeze-thaw climate, steel roofing oxidizes and degrades, but aluminum ages gracefully for decades. This is why the Guardian Warranty covers rusting—it simply won't happen.

What's included in the lifetime warranty, and does it transfer if I sell my home?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—every failure mode that matters in Raynham's climate. It's non-prorated, meaning you pay nothing to file a claim decades from now. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This gives your home two layers of protection: your lifetime peace of mind, plus a major selling point for future buyers who see a roof that will outlast their own ownership.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock's aluminum roof requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles degrade over 15–20 years, wood shake splits and rots within decades, and clay tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles—all requiring repairs or replacement. Aluminum doesn't curl, crack, or decompose. Rain and snow naturally clean the surface; if moss or debris accumulates, a gentle rinse restores it. The CALGreen verification recognizes this reduced-maintenance advantage. Over Raynham's 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles, the only maintenance you might do is clear gutters or inspect flashing—tasks you'd perform with any roof.
