Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bloomington Ferry, Minnesota
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
It has to do with pricing, I felt like it was a bit expensive. The lack of communication with the project manager. The 2 installers did a phenomenal job!
They warned of additional costs for any areas that didn't pertain to the actual project, I didn't appreciate that aspect.
I am considering taking out a full-page add to warn people. They could've kept me informed of the delays. I am very disappointed and disgusted with the product and customer service that I have seen. They made this winter a living hell and have ruined my porch. They will not respond. I can't believe they won't respond. I think the Interlock parent company should consider separating themselves from midwest Interlock to keep themselves maintained.
None Peter Brylinke was helpful and honest, a pleasure to work with....
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I think that they could have improved the installation quality.

The sign advertising our roof (the one with arrow pointing up to our roof) needs to be picked up.
Interlock roofing, though costlier from other roofs will last forever. The job was completed in consecutive days Beginning on the scheduled day except for a couple rain delays. The roof looks great and functions well, and keeps my house cooler by reflecting heat off my roof. N/A The city inspection is still pending. I was told I didn't need to worry about it. That interlock would meet the inspector at my house. The project has been done a while. I am anxious to have the inspection done too. Why is it taking so long?

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bloomington Ferry
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bloomington Ferry, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bloomington Ferry.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota winters and heavy snow?
Interlock panels shed snow naturally because of their smooth, interlocking design—they don't trap moisture like asphalt, so ice dams are far less likely even during Bloomington Ferry's typical 95 cm annual snowfall and 79 freeze-thaw days. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration, and you can add optional snow guards if you want to control shedding in specific directions. Snow loading won't stress your home; aluminum's weight is negligible compared to the burden of traditional materials, so your structure stays safe without reinforcement.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot chemically rust—period. Instead, a protective oxide layer forms naturally on the surface and actually self-heals when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides, per spec) adds another 30-year warranted barrier against chalk and fade (ASTM D4214), giving you two layers of defense. In Hennepin County's moist climate with 796 mm of annual rain, this dual protection means your roof stays intact without the degradation that corrodes steel.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage my metal roof?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts slightly, but its grain structure absorbs those movements without cracking, splitting, or curling—problems that plague asphalt and wood in climates with 79 annual freeze-thaw days like Bloomington Ferry. The interlocking seams allow panels to move independently while staying weathertight. Unlike slate or tile, which are brittle and fracture under thermal stress, aluminum flexes, and the Alunar coating won't peel or chip during temperature swings from season to season.
Can my metal roof hold up to Minnesota wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and the four-way mechanical interlock keeps each panel locked to its neighbors, so gusts can't peel them off. Bloomington Ferry's typical wind gusts reach about 94 km/h (58 mph), well below that threshold. The system is tested under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (the building code standard), so your contractor and insurer both know it meets Minnesota structural requirements. That interlocking design is what allows the panels to move as one unified system rather than fail individually.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That non-combustible aluminum and Class 4 rating often qualify homeowners for lower insurance premiums. Some carriers also recognize that metal roofs require fewer repairs overall, which can further reduce your rate. Check with your insurer about discounts; the combination of durability and impact resistance is attractive to underwriters managing Minnesota weather risk.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs about 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Tile profile about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means you can often install directly over your existing roof without adding structural support, saving tens of thousands in framing work. Bloomington Ferry homes built for asphalt (which still weighs far more over time due to multiple layers) can easily handle aluminum. The light weight also reduces strain on gutters, fascia, and foundations throughout the roof's 50+ year life.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect up to 0.55 of incoming solar radiation and have a thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they shed rather than absorb the heat that dark asphalt soaks up. Bloomington Ferry receives about 3,128 hours of sunshine annually, so reflective coatings add up to real cooling savings over time. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies these properties, so they're not marketing claims—they're measured performance. Lighter colors (like Aged Copper Penny) keep your attic cooler than dark shingles, which lowers air conditioning load during warm months.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Once installed, Interlock panels don't crack, curl, split, or rot, and the Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. Moss and algae rarely colonize smooth aluminum, and debris washes away naturally, especially during Bloomington Ferry's 796 mm annual rainfall. You're not replacing shingles, re-caulking gaps, or treating rot. The Guardian Warranty covers all those failure modes for the original owner's lifetime, so your maintenance is essentially limited to occasional gutter cleaning—the same as any roof.
What is the lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion—meaning your roof is protected through multiple ownership cycles. While the metal itself lasts 50+ years (often much longer), the Alunar fluorocarbon finish carries a separate 30-year fade/chalk warranty, so both the panel and coating are covered. This is the only roof you'll likely install in your lifetime.
Who installs Interlock roofing in Bloomington Ferry, and how long have they been doing it?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served Hennepin County and the surrounding region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience with these specific aluminum systems. They understand Minnesota's snow load, freeze-thaw cycling, and wind patterns because they've installed through them. Your local installer can also ensure the roof is fastened and sealed to spec (critical for the 120 mph wind warranty and watertightness in your 19 km/h average winds and 94 km/h gusts). Working with someone who knows the product and the climate removes guesswork.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Bloomington Ferry’s climate?
Yes. Bloomington Ferry averages about 95 cm of snow, 796 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 94 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
