What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gracelan
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Gracelan, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Gracelan.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice reliably even in Gracelan's ~101 cm annual snowfall because the smooth aluminum surface prevents ice damming, and the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural strain from accumulated load. The panels' standing-seam and Shake profiles naturally channel meltwater downward. In freeze-thaw cycling—Gracelan experiences about 77 days per year—aluminum's oxide layer flexes without cracking or spalling the way concrete or clay tile does, and unlike asphalt, it never becomes brittle. Adding snow guards is optional and straightforward. Over 26 years, you'll avoid the repeated roof damage asphalt suffers through Minnesota winters.
Will freeze-thaw damage Interlock metal roofing over time?
No—aluminum's material properties make it inherently resistant to freeze-thaw stress. Gracelan averages roughly 77 freeze-thaw cycles annually, which causes asphalt to crack and wood shakes to split, but aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without permanent deformation or loss of integrity. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this kind of cycling. With 101 cm of snow and 557 mm of rain per year, your roof faces constant moisture and temperature swings—conditions where traditional materials degrade, but aluminum's self-healing oxide layer remains protective. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers splitting and cracking, a claim the manufacturer confidently makes because these failures essentially don't occur.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile. This means the roof can be installed directly over most existing asphalt shingles, saving the cost and labor of a full tear-off. Even with Gracelan's 101 cm of annual snowfall, the weight loading is negligible compared to the roof deck's designed capacity. The four-way interlocking system distributes any load evenly across panels, and the installation follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 code evaluation (reissued 2025). By contrast, slate or real tile requires expensive structural upgrades. This efficiency—no reinforcement, faster installation, existing-roof overlay capability—is one reason aluminum roofing delivers better value in cold, snowy climates.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Minnesota wind and ice storms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Gracelan's typical gusts reach about 103 km/h, well below this threshold, so even severe local storms pose no risk. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically fastened to its neighbors and the deck—wind cannot lift or separate them. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) also means hail and ice-laden branches striking the roof during storm conditions will not cause failure. Unlike asphalt, which becomes fragile in cold and can blow off in gusts, or wood shake, which splits under stress, aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio keeps it secure through the full range of Minnesota weather. The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, giving you confidence during spring and summer severe weather seasons.
Does metal roofing qualify for hail damage insurance discounts in Minnesota?
Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest classification available, which many insurers recognize when calculating premiums. Class 4 means the roof resists impact from 1.5-inch hailstones without perforation or loss of weathertightness. While discount rates vary by insurer, the combination of a non-combustible aluminum roof (Class A fire-rated) plus Class 4 hail rating often results in lower premiums than asphalt shingles, which typically fall into lower impact classes. Gracelan's 3,098 annual sunshine hours and spring/summer storm season make hail a real consideration. The Guardian Warranty covers hail perforation explicitly, and the aluminum's non-rusting nature means no long-term corrosion from micro-damage. Contact your insurer to discuss specific discounts available for your property—the documented certifications (ICC-ES ESR-1790, UL 2218 Class 4) support your application.
How long does it take to install Interlock metal roofing, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Installation timelines depend on roof complexity and weather, but Interlock's lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft across profiles) and four-way interlocking system allow faster installation than asphalt tear-off-and-replace. A key advantage: panels can be installed over most existing asphalt roofs, eliminating the labor and landfill cost of removal. This overlay method reduces total project time and disruption. In Gracelan's climate, with about 101 cm of annual snow, scheduling around winter weather is wise—spring and fall offer ideal installation windows. Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001, so crews here understand local building codes, ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance, and Minnesota snow loads. The manufacturer's solid-deck plus underlayment installation method also ensures your finished roof is as quiet as asphalt during rain, eliminating one common metal roof myth. Get a site-specific timeline from your local Interlock installer after inspection.
Will a metal roof help lower my cooling costs in summer?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers several energy-efficiency-verified finishes with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (achieved by Aged Copper Penny and similar light-toned profiles). These colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it, reducing the cooling load on your air conditioning system. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings confirm this advantage. Gracelan receives about 3,098 hours of annual sunshine, so summer cooling efficiency is a genuine benefit over asphalt shingles, which absorb heat and raise attic temperatures significantly. The reflective coating is warranted for 30 years against fading, so the energy benefit persists through the life of the roof. Combined with the roof's light weight (no structural penalty) and longevity (50-year transferable warranty), energy efficiency makes aluminum an economically sound choice for Minnesota homes where both heating and cooling matter across the seasons.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?
Interlock metal roofing requires minimal maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Annual inspection (checking for debris or standing water in gutters) and occasional gentle cleaning are sufficient. Unlike asphalt shingles, which deteriorate within 15–20 years and shed granules into gutters, aluminum panels do not degrade. Wood shakes split and rot in Gracelan's 77 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 101 cm of snow; concrete or clay tile cracks and spalls in the same conditions. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is engineered to resist fading over 30 years (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), so repainting is rarely necessary. Fasteners remain secure because the four-way interlocking system distributes wind and ice loads evenly. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers the full roof material; there are no granule loss claims, no leak-prone flashing failures typical of asphalt, and no structural repairs from rot or settling. Over a 50-year span, the cumulative cost of maintenance for asphalt far exceeds that of Interlock aluminum.
Is Interlock metal roofing environmentally responsible?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 break the asphalt cycle: most asphalt shingles are torn off and sent to landfills after 15–20 years, accumulating millions of tons nationwide. Aluminum roofing, by contrast, is valuable scrap; at end of life (in 50+ years), your panels can be recycled into new roofing, automotive, or building products. Because Interlock panels install over existing roofs (no tear-off required), you avoid the immediate landfill impact and transportation emissions of removal. The lightweight design also reduces installation labor and equipment use. The Guardian Warranty's 50-year transferable term means the same roof serves multiple owners, multiplying its environmental value. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, Interlock aluminum eliminates the need for chemical treatments, frequent repairs, and premature replacement that plague asphalt shingles in Minnesota's harsh freeze-thaw climate. Choosing Interlock means choosing a roof that outlasts your ownership and the planet's landfills.
Is an Interlock metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, when evaluated over the roof's lifetime. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years in Gracelan's climate (101 cm annual snow, 77 freeze-thaw days, 557 mm rain), requiring replacement twice or three times within 50 years—each replacement costs removal, labor, and new material. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated for the original owner, then 50 years transferable to the next owner), with explicit coverage for splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—failures that end asphalt's life early. The upfront cost is higher, but over 50 years, a single Interlock roof often costs less per year than two or three asphalt replacements. Add avoided maintenance costs (no seasonal repairs), potential insurance discounts (UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, Class A fire rating), and minimal structural reinforcement (installation at 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft), and the total cost of ownership favors aluminum decisively. The roof is also one-time transferable, giving the second owner 50 years of additional coverage—an asset that adds resale value.
