Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Grant

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Grant, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Grant.

How does a metal roof handle Grant's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more readily than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface doesn't grip moisture the way granules do. Grant averages about 94 cm of snow annually across roughly 81 freeze-thaw days, which means your roof cycles between wet and frozen repeatedly—exactly where asphalt fails fastest. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together tightly, and the aluminum's low thermal mass lets heat escape rather than creating ice dams. If you want snow guards for aesthetic or safety reasons, they install easily on the standing seam or slate profiles.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it handles that movement without cracking, splitting, or curling—the exact failures that plague asphalt, wood shake, and clay tile through 81 freeze-thaw cycles per winter in Grant. The material is also non-porous, so it won't absorb water that turns to ice and fractures from the inside. With about 843 mm of annual rain and snow, long-term water intrusion is a real risk on conventional roofs; aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, giving it inherent corrosion resistance that stays intact through temperature swings.

Why does aluminum roofing not rust like steel?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust only happens with ferrous metals. What forms instead is a thin aluminum oxide that actually protects the layer underneath and heals itself when scratched. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts aggressively in coastal salt air or wet climates like Grant's, requiring constant maintenance and eventual failure. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, giving you corrosion defense at both the material and coating level.

Can a metal roof withstand Minnesota wind gusts?

Grant's typical wind gusts reach about 95 km/h, and the roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec—that's a comfortable safety margin. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock side to side and end to end, distributing uplift forces across the entire roof plane rather than relying on nails or adhesive alone. This engineering gives you wind resistance that standalone fasteners cannot match. Even in a severe gust event, the interlocking geometry keeps panels from separating or lifting.

Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the clay or concrete tiles it visually replicates—so most existing roof framing handles it without modification. The Shake profile runs about 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Slate 0.41 lb/sq ft, all far lighter than the asphalt you're likely replacing. This light weight also means you can often install directly over your existing roof, saving tear-off labor and landfill waste. Older homes with vintage framing benefit especially from this advantage.

What hail rating does your metal roofing have, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 typically qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the material resists damage that would destroy asphalt or wood. Grant's climate doesn't see frequent severe hail, but when it does strike, a Class 4 roof absorbs the impact without cracking or losing weather resistance. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 rating to ask about premium reductions; many carriers recognize this durability and price accordingly.

How long does an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?

The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time or damage limits. If you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding real value at closing. With 3110 sunshine hours annually and no exposure to the freeze-thaw failures that degrade asphalt roofs on 81 cycling days per year, your roof will likely outlast the warranty itself. Most customers report 40+ years of service; the aluminum and two-sided Alunar coating simply don't degrade like organic materials.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Essentially none beyond occasional inspection and gutter cleaning. Unlike asphalt roofs, which lose granules and thin over time, or wood shake, which splits and curls, aluminum panels don't degrade from weather exposure. No sealing, recoating, or algae treatment needed—the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214). With about 843 mm of rain annually, conventional materials demand regular maintenance just to stay ahead of rot and moss. Metal roofing breaks that cycle and is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, freeing your time and money.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Asphalt typically needs replacement every 15–25 years; metal roofing lasts 40+ years without maintenance or recoating. Over a 50-year horizon, you'll replace asphalt two or three times—each tear-off sends ~11 tons of waste to the landfill per 1000 sq ft—while Interlock goes up once. Factor in avoided maintenance, insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, energy savings (energy-efficiency colors with 0.84 emissivity reflect heat that asphalt absorbs), and curb appeal gains at resale, and the metal roof becomes the final, lowest-cost roof you ever buy. The lifetime warranty backs that promise.

Are metal roofs more environmentally friendly than asphalt?

Fundamentally yes. Asphalt is torn off after 20 years, sent to the landfill, and replaced—a cycle that repeats indefinitely. Metal roofing installs once and lasts 40+ years, then recycles at 95% rather than entering a waste stream. At end of life, aluminum is worth money and actively reclaimed; asphalt is not. Over 50 years in Grant's climate of about 843 mm rain and 94 cm snow—conditions that accelerate asphalt failure—you avoid two complete tear-offs and landfill deposits. The lightweight profile (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on style) also means less material per roof, lower transportation carbon, and often direct installation over existing layers, eliminating disposal entirely.
