From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lakeland

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lakeland, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lakeland.

Will a metal roof handle Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or wood?

Yes. Lakeland sees about 81 freeze-thaw days annually, and aluminum's non-porous structure won't absorb water that expands when frozen. Unlike asphalt, which cracks and curls after repeated temperature swings, or wood shakes, which split, aluminum flexes slightly and its oxide layer self-heals when stressed. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy is engineered for exactly this punishment—it's been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Your roof won't develop the damage patterns that force premature replacement in climates like yours.

How does an Interlock metal roof perform under Lakeland's snow load and ice conditions?

The four-way interlocking panels lock snow in place rather than allowing sliding sheets that damage gutters and landscaping. Lakeland averages about 94 cm of snow yearly, and metal's smooth surface—especially the Slate and Shake profiles—sheds melt efficiently without trapping ice. The panels resist wind gusts up to 120 mph when installed to spec, so the uplift stress from snow settling and wind won't separate seams. Snow guards are available if you want added control. Most owners find the combination of light weight and secure interlocking eliminates ice-dam problems that plague heavier, gapped roofing systems.

Can an aluminum roof rust in a climate with heavy rain and snow like Lakeland's?

No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals in the presence of air. Lakeland receives about 843 mm of rain annually, so water contact is constant, yet the 70% PVDF Alunar® fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) provides an extra 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum never does. After 25+ years of installations across coastal and freshwater environments, we've never seen corrosion on an Interlock panel.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it typically goes over your existing roof without adding stress. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter. Traditional tile would require engineering and expensive framing upgrades; aluminum delivers the same visual profile without touching your structure. Most homes in Washington County can accept an Interlock roof as a direct replacement for asphalt, which itself weighs more than many don't realize. This also speeds installation and keeps costs lower than a full structural retrofit.

Will an Interlock roof reduce hail damage claims or lower my insurance?

Your roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hail events are less frequent in Lakeland than in plains states, but when they occur, aluminum's hardness and the four-way interlocking system mean fewer claims and no costly repairs. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs; contact your agent with the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 and UL listing. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty also reassures lenders and appraisers, which can speed loan approval and increase your home's insurable value.

Are metal roof panels secure in Lakeland's typical wind and gust conditions?

Yes. Lakeland's typical daily winds average about 18 km/h with gusts reaching 95 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors—no exposed fasteners, no seam separation. This mechanical interlock also prevents wind from catching panel edges and peeling them back, a failure mode that happens with loosely fastened standing-seam systems. After 25 years of regional service, we've seen metal roofs hold firm while asphalt shingles blow off around them. Installation matters: the interlocking design is only effective when panels are seated correctly.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?

Almost none. Asphalt shingles need debris cleared, ice dams managed, and algae treatment; wood shakes need regular sealing and crack monitoring. Metal requires annual gutter cleaning (standard for any roof) and occasional debris removal—that's it. The Alunar® 70% PVDF finish resists algae and moss naturally, and aluminum won't split, curl, or rot no matter how many of Lakeland's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles occur. The roof is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Over a 50-year lifespan, you'll spend roughly 1% of what wood or asphalt owners invest in repairs and preventive treatments. Your time is worth more than the cost of a ladder visit every few years.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Yes, if you plan to stay in your home or want the best long-term value. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty (50 years for the next owner) means no surprise replacement costs for decades. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years in Lakeland's climate—especially with 843 mm annual rain and 94 cm of snow—so you'd buy it three times before an Interlock roof fails. Add maintenance, repairs, and the environmental cost of landfill disposal, and metal costs roughly the same over 50 years while eliminating the hassle and uncertainty. Financing programs help spread the upfront cost. The resale premium (homes with metal roofs typically command 3-5% more) also offsets the initial investment.

Will an Interlock metal roof help lower cooling costs in summer?

Certain colors will. energy-efficient finishes have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs. Lakeland gets about 3110 sunshine hours annually, so summer heat gain through the roof is real. A reflective metal roof can lower attic temperatures by 10-20°F compared to dark asphalt, reducing air-conditioning load and runtime. While Minnesota winters are cold, you don't lose heating efficiency—the metal doesn't insulate differently, but the reflectivity helps on warm shoulder-season days. Pairing the roof with adequate attic ventilation maximizes this benefit. It's one of several factors that make metal a Cool Roof Rating Council-rated option.

How long does installation take, and can it be installed over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 3-7 days depending on roof size and complexity. The light weight—the Shingle profile installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft—means most existing roofs don't need tear-off or structural work; the metal goes right over asphalt or wood. This cuts labor time and eliminates landfill waste, saving you money and hassle. Your home stays weather-protected during installation, and you avoid the dust and disruption of a full tear-off. Our crew removes only the old flashing and peak caps, secures the new underlayment, and interlocks the panels. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 covers retrofit installation over existing roofing, so no special engineering is required. Most installations are finished and watertight within a week.
