Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Tonka Bay

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Tonka Bay, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Tonka Bay.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow loads and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip for accumulation. Tonka Bay receives about 95 cm of snow annually, and our four-way interlocking aluminum panels—warranted for wind gusts up to 94 km/h—stay clear longer than traditional shingles. You can add snow guards if you prefer controlled melting onto gutters. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural stress from snow mass, and the aluminum's strength prevents cracking or warping during the roughly 79 freeze-thaw cycles your area experiences each year.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens under freeze-thaw stress rather than degrading like asphalt or wood. With about 79 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Tonka Bay, traditional roofing materials expand and contract until they split or curl; aluminum flexes elastically and returns to shape. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists UV damage across 3,128 annual sunshine hours, and the material itself contains no iron, so there is no rust initiation point where water seeps into microfractures. Your roof's integrity improves with age rather than declining.

Can Tonka Bay's wind gusts damage a metal roof, or will it blow off?

Wind will not compromise your metal roof when properly installed to specification. Our four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist sustained winds of 120 mph, and Tonka Bay's typical wind gusts peak around 94 km/h—well within design limits. The interlocking system distributes lateral stress across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating load on individual fasteners, which is why we can warranty the installation against wind failure. Combined with the panel's light weight (no structural burden) and the solid deck plus underlayment underneath (which also deadens rain noise), your roof will remain stable through the seasonal wind events your area experiences.

Does metal roofing perform well in hail, and could it lower my insurance premium?

Metal roofing excels in hail because aluminum panels are rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact classification available. Our warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hennepin County insurers recognize this resilience; many offer premium discounts for metal roofs because claims are rare and damage severity is minimal compared to asphalt shingles, which crack, dent, and leak after moderate hail. With about 3,128 sunshine hours annually in Tonka Bay, the longer you own the roof, the more you save on premiums. Contact your carrier for specifics, but the combination of durability and low-loss history often qualifies you for measurable savings.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt, and does it save money over time?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but delivers dramatically lower lifetime cost because you install it once and keep it. An asphalt shingle roof lasts 15-20 years in Tonka Bay's 79 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 95 cm of snow; you replace it twice during a metal roof's lifespan. Factor in tear-off labor, landfill fees, and inflation, and asphalt costs 2-3 times more over 50 years. Metal roof maintenance is minimal—no moss treatment, no shingle replacement—and the Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable 50 years) transfers with your home at resale, adding buyer appeal. The math consistently favors metal.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it really last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding genuine resale value. Interlock metal roofs have been manufactured since 1998 and installed from salt-air coastal homes to an Antarctic research station, demonstrating durability across extreme climates. Tonka Bay's moderate conditions (about 796 mm rain, 95 cm snow, gusts to 94 km/h) are well within the product's proven range, so you can reasonably expect 40+ years of performance with zero material failures.

How long does installation take, and can a metal roof be installed over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 2-5 days depending on roof size and complexity; our local team has been serving the region since 2001 and knows Tonka Bay conditions well. The major advantage of aluminum's light weight—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile—is that it installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs with no structural reinforcement required. This saves $5,000-15,000 in tear-off and disposal costs while keeping your home weatherproofed throughout the job. We remove valleys and flashing, install the new interlocking panels, and flash all penetrations according to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications for your region.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Each asphalt roof replacement sends 5-10 tons of material to landfill; aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and never loses value as scrap. At end of life—which may be 40+ years away—your panels are melted down for new applications rather than buried. Over its lifespan, the energy savings from energy-efficient colors (thermal emissivity 0.84, solar reflectance up to 0.55) reduce cooling loads, further lowering your home's carbon footprint. With roughly 3,128 sunshine hours annually in Tonka Bay, the reflective advantage accumulates year-round, and the material's durability means fewer replacements across generations.

Does a metal roof provide fire protection, and is it non-combustible?

Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and available with a Class A fire rating—the highest protection level. Aluminum itself cannot ignite, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating meets stringent fire performance standards. This matters if your home sits in a wildfire-prone area or near dense forest (though Tonka Bay's climate is not high-risk), but more importantly, it satisfies building codes and may qualify you for fire-insurance discounts. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards reissued in 2025, and CALGreen verification means the product meets reduced-maintenance sustainability requirements. Your homeowner's policy often recognizes the non-combustible advantage.

How much upkeep does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires almost no maintenance—no moss treatment, no seasonal inspections, no shingle replacement. Asphalt roofs in Tonka Bay's climate demand regular checks due to the 79 annual freeze-thaw cycles, which cause granule loss and cracking; wood-shake roofs need constant cleaning and sealing to prevent rot and insect damage. Our aluminum panels' hard, smooth surface sheds debris and resists algae growth. Annual gutter cleaning is all you need, plus a visual walk-around after severe weather (gusts to 94 km/h are possible). The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so you won't refinish or repaint. That simplicity translates directly into lower lifetime cost and peace of mind.
