What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mound
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mound, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mound.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface prevents ice dams—critical in Mound, where about 95 cm of snow falls annually alongside roughly 79 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that water cannot penetrate at seams, and aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without the cracking or curling that wood and asphalt experience. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled melting. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs moisture and deteriorates faster through repeated freezing, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals and never rots.
Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust like steel ones?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; rust only forms when iron oxidizes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath—and when scratched, this layer self-heals. Interlock uses 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), the same material trusted on coastal salt-air homes and an Antarctic research station. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides for extra durability in wet climates like Mound, where annual rainfall averages about 800 mm. This dual-sided coating carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you decades of protection without corrosion.
Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Most homes need no structural work because Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy traditional tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb per square foot, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. This lightweight design means you can install Interlock directly over most existing roofs without costly reinforcement, saving thousands in labor and materials. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms structural compliance for both new and retrofit installations under IBC and IRC codes. Your existing framing carries the load of 800 mm annual rainfall and 95 cm of snow far more easily with aluminum than traditional materials.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance costs?
Yes—Interlock achieves the highest impact rating available, UL 2218 Class 4, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional durability can qualify you for homeowner's insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the lifetime material warranty to discuss premium reductions. In Minnesota's variable spring weather, where wind gusts reach about 94 km/h, hail impact resistance matters. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels also resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when properly installed, so your roof remains intact through severe weather. Many insurers recognize these engineering advantages and reward them financially.
Will a metal roof help me save on cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling demand on warm days. Mound receives about 3,128 sunshine hours annually, so a reflective roof measurably reduces heat gain. Unlike dark asphalt shingles that trap solar energy, Interlock's Cool Roof Rating Council ratings demonstrate that lighter profiles stay cooler, reducing air-conditioner runtime and lowering your summer electricity bill. The metal conducts heat away faster than asphalt, and because aluminum never deteriorates—maintaining its reflectivity across decades—you keep these energy benefits for the life of the roof, not just the first few years.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Interlock requires virtually no maintenance because aluminum never rots, splits, curls, or cracks—eliminating the constant repairs asphalt and wood demand. There are no granules to replace, no shingles to re-seal, and no algae growth to pressure-wash. You won't climb ladders to clean gutters clogged with deteriorating material. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, protecting your roof through Mound's 800 mm annual rain and 95 cm snow without degrading. Simply rinse leaves and debris twice yearly, and your roof stays perfect. Over a 50-year lifespan, this means you spend far less time and money on upkeep than asphalt, which requires repairs every 15–20 years.
Is a metal roof worth the higher initial cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Interlock costs more upfront than asphalt, but over your roof's life—the only figure that matters—it's your final roof, eliminating the endless cycle of tear-off and replacement. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years; in that time, you'll reroof 2–3 times, paying full installation labor each cycle and disposing of thousands of pounds of shingles in landfills. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty (transferable for 50 years to the next owner) means you stop replacing roofs. No hail damage calls, no storm repairs, no neglected maintenance accelerating failure. The upfront investment offsets completely when you calculate 30, 40, or 50 years of avoided reroof costs, plus potential insurance discounts from Class 4 hail rating and resale value gains from a proven 25+ year-old product installed locally since 2001.
Is a metal roof fire-safe, and does that matter for Mound?
Yes—Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and achieves Class A fire classification, the highest rating possible under ICC codes. Unlike asphalt shingles (which are flammable) or wood shakes (which ignite easily), aluminum will not burn, making it the safest choice for protecting your home. Class A certification meets IBC/IRC standards confirmed by the current ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025), so it's acceptable for all building applications. Hennepin County homeowners often find that this non-combustible rating also qualifies for fire-insurance discounts. While Minnesota's climate emphasizes snow and freeze-thaw durability, fire safety is permanent—your roof protects against wildfire and house fires throughout its 50+ year life without ever losing that protection through degradation.
What's the installation process, and can you install over my existing roof?
Yes, you can install Interlock directly over most existing asphalt or wood shingles without stripping and disposing of the old roof—saving thousands in labor and landfill fees. The installer removes only necessary flashing and ridge caps, then installs Interlock's lightweight panels (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) over your existing deck. The solid deck plus underlayment creates an asphalt-quiet installation—metal roofs are only loud on thin, exposed fasteners, not on proper deck. Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Because aluminum weighs so little (about 96% lighter than tile), you avoid the structural reinforcement needed for traditional materials. Your local Interlock installer, serving this region since 2001, handles permitting and ensures compliance with ESR-1790 codes throughout the process.
Does a metal roof add value when I sell my home?
A 25+ year-old Interlock roof signals to buyers that they're inheriting a roof that will last their entire ownership, eliminating the single largest home repair expense most buyers face. Asphalt fails within 15–20 years; a buyer sees an imminent $15,000+ reroof bill. Interlock's transferable lifetime warranty gives the next owner an additional 50 years of coverage from completion—a documented, insurable asset. The five available profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, Standing Seam) let you choose curb appeal that matches your home's architecture, and the energy-efficiency efficiency reduces buyer concerns about summer cooling costs in Minnesota's 3,128 annual sunshine hours. Buyers in Hennepl County increasingly recognize that a metal roof eliminates uncertainty, reduces future maintenance, and preserves home value across decades.
