Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Sherwood, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
They could improve on their scheduling, communication, and quote times. Wish they were more flexible to customers when things in life happen. The sales team was good and helpful. The installation team was great. Just wish there was better communication.
I think they could give us a little more notification of the start date.
We already have! Communication between Interlock and installers. We are happy with our new roof and we understand that things don't always go according to plan. We weren't really happy about the deep ruts in our lawn and the broken stonework on our patio due to them overloading the trailer with roof tile instead of taking it away more frequently so the load was not so heavy. We warned them the yard was soft and to be careful not to break the stonework! They laid down plywood but then ended up with one tire on the stonework anyway breaking it and leaving large ruts in the lawn. They did fill in the ruts and seed with grass. He kind of shrugged it off and said, "We aren't landscapers". They didn't address the broken stonework.
Nothing. Very professional and prompt.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sherwood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sherwood, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sherwood.
Can a metal roof rust in Oregon's wet climate?
No — aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. With Sherwood's 1208 mm of annual rainfall and salt-air exposure, an aluminum roof forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. Even if scratched, that oxide reforms automatically. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy meets ASTM B209 standards, and the dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) adds a second barrier. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum simply doesn't.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail in Oregon?
Yes — Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That rating matters in Sherwood, where wind gusts can reach 120 km/h and hail can follow. With a Class 4 rating, you may qualify for homeowner's insurance discounts; check with your agent. Many insurers recognize the durability and lower replacement risk, which can offset roof cost over time.
Will my metal roof blow off in a windstorm?
The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec — well above Sherwood's typical gust speeds of 120 km/h. The interlocks grip each panel to its neighbors and the deck, distributing wind load across the whole roof rather than stressing fasteners at isolated points. In the Pacific Northwest, where seasonal winds test roofing systems, this design has proven itself on thousands of homes and commercial buildings since Interlock began manufacturing in 1998.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate installs at about 0.41 pounds per square foot, and the Mediterranean Tile profile — which replicates concrete or clay tile — weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Sherwood homes built for asphalt shingles (around 2.5–3 lb/sq ft) can handle metal roofing with ease. In fact, many homeowners install over existing asphalt without removal, saving labor and keeping debris out of landfills.
How does a metal roof handle heavy rain in the Pacific Northwest?
The four-way interlocking design sheds water faster than shingles. Sherwood averages 1208 mm of rain annually, and metal's smooth surface allows runoff to move directly to gutters without pooling. The seams between panels are interlocked — not just overlapped — so water cannot work backward under them. Pair that with proper deck, underlayment, and flashing (per ICC-ES ESR-1790 specs), and you get a watertight system that contractors have installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
energy-efficient colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering surface temperature and cooling load. Interlock's Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Sherwood's 3033 annual sunshine hours may seem modest, but they add up; reflective coatings cut peak-season cooling demand measurably. Over 40+ years of ownership, energy savings contribute to the total value proposition of choosing metal.
What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion — a significant advantage when selling. Few roofing products offer that kind of transfer term. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty against fading and chalking, you're buying a roof designed to outlast multiple owners and eliminate the cost cycle of tear-off-and-replace.
How much work does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Aluminum requires far less. Asphalt shingles fail from UV exposure and thermal cycling; Sherwood's 37 annual freeze-thaw days accelerate that breakdown. Wood shakes rot and split in perpetual Pacific Northwest moisture. Metal doesn't absorb water, resists UV (Alunar 70% PVDF coating, 30-year warranty), and needs only occasional gutter cleaning and inspection — no sealing, no stripping, no replacement until you sell the house. CALGreen verifies Interlock for reduced maintenance, cutting years of labor and cost.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over 40 years?
Yes. Metal costs more initially but never needs replacement on your watch — you're buying your last roof. Asphalt requires tear-off and reinstall every 15–25 years; multiply that cycle over four decades. With no rust risk, minimal maintenance, energy savings, potential insurance discounts, and the lifetime warranty covering material defects, the total cost of ownership favors metal. Current financing offers (no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation) reduce the barrier. Run the math: one replacement cycle covers metal's premium.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Sherwood?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Washington County and the broader region since 1997 — longer than most local contractors. They understand Oregon's wet winters, freeze-thaw stress, and seasonal wind gusts to 120 km/h. They're familiar with local building codes, ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance, and the installation details that keep roofs watertight through 1208 mm of annual rainfall. Using a regional installer with deep local experience means faster service, easier warranty claims, and crews who know the climate.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Sherwood’s climate?
Yes. Sherwood averages about 29 cm of snow, 1208 mm of rain, roughly 37 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 120 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
