I really really want to love my roof, I really do, and I'm almost there, only time will tell for sure. Roofs are an expensive investment literally on your most important asset. You need to have a product you can trust installed correctly to protect you, your assets in the home, and your family. You have choices on what kind of roof to put on and costs all over the place. Interlock aluminum roofing is not cheap, was not the most expensive quote I got, nor the lowest. The things that sold me were material, as aluminum will not rust, and being in Washington state, we get rain often so this was a factor. And then their warranty claims, which sadly I was lied directly to my face by their sales reps. Now don't get me wrong, their warranty is still very good, it was represented to me as even better than it actually is which really pisses me off. Had the sales reps told me the truth, I think I'd still have gone with their product because as I said their warranty is still very good. I hope the product does its job and I never have to use the warranty, that's the real goal here. Better communication, when crew was to arrive, when they would leave, if they leave will they return again that day.

Review: June 8, 2018 Completion: May 30, 2018

Interclock could have improved on time to complete the project. There were about 4 days when the weather was favorable but no worker showed up to do any work. There was no communication from Interlock as for the reason why. The price increase from 46k to 48k was unexpected. We were determined to go with Interlock for a new roof but an opportunity to refinance our home from 5/1 ARM to fixed rate presented itself so took care of that first. Also, it would have been nice to have a final walk-through at the completion of the project before the final payment.

Review: June 28, 2017 Completion: February 24, 2017

I think they need to have safety equipment and training for the installers. They need more people on a crew and they need to take a good look at the installers before they hire them. I think they need to take a better look at the installers they hire. I wasn't happy that they didn't have the proper safety requirements in place. This left me as the home owner in a very bad place if someone gets hurt on my property. I am happy with the roof now that it is done.

More financing options should be available with lower interest rates, 9% would be much more attractive than 13%.

Review: April 22, 2016

I am sold on the quality of Interlock products but have read reviews and issues with the installation or craftsmanship in Hawaii and some other places. I am counting on lifetime warranty from Interlock and good customer service from my initial contacts. Before filling out this survey I was thinking about how to coordinate the replacement of skylights. I have the model in mind for four 2 X 4 & one 2 x 2 skylights, and one solar tube. The chimney for the furnace also need to be replaced. I still have some question about flashing or warranty if these parts leak.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Arlington

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Arlington, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Arlington.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile without the weight problems?

Yes—Interlock offers five authentic profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile, all in lightweight aluminum. The Tile profile weighs about 96% less than real clay or concrete tile, so it installs over most existing roofs with zero structural reinforcement. You get the architectural character you want plus the durability of four-way interlocking aluminum panels, all rated for Arlington's 96 km/h wind gusts and 1372 mm annual rainfall.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Arlington?

Metal roofing costs more initially but becomes your last roof—Interlock's lifetime limited warranty on materials and 50-year transferable term mean no replacement cycles over decades. Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years; Arlington's 58 annual freeze-thaw days and 1372 mm rain accelerate deterioration. Over 50 years, one metal roof versus three asphalt roofs, plus eliminated tear-off disposal costs, shifts the math decisively in metal's favor. Current financing offers zero payments until Spring 2027.

What does the Interlock warranty actually cover and for how long?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner—non-prorated coverage for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The material warranty transfers once to the next owner, good for 50 years from completion. This protects you against the combined stresses of Arlington's 52 cm annual snow, heavy rain, and freeze-thaw cycling, plus it adds resale appeal: the next buyer gets decades of documented protection without gaps.

Why can't aluminum roofs rust like steel ones, and does that matter in a wet climate?

Aluminum contains no iron—iron rusts; aluminum cannot. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that automatically seals minor scratches. In Arlington's wet 1372 mm annual rainfall and coastal-influenced air, this is critical: steel roofs slowly corrode from moisture and chlorides; aluminum stays inert indefinitely. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24/3003-H24 aluminum with Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides, giving 30-year warranty against chalking and fading—meaning no hidden corrosion, no rust stains bleeding onto your walls.

Does freeze-thaw damage affect metal roofs in Arlington winters?

No—Arlington experiences about 58 freeze-thaw days per year, which splits asphalt shingles and concrete tile but doesn't harm aluminum. Metal panels expand and contract slightly with temperature swings, but they're engineered for this cycle without cracking or deterioration. Four-way interlocking seams accommodate movement while staying watertight, and the material's flexibility means Arlington's transition days (freezing morning, mild afternoon) cause zero structural stress to the roof itself or the fastening system.

How does a metal roof handle Arlington's snow load and ice dams?

Arlington receives about 52 cm of snow annually, manageable on any properly installed roof, but the real problem is ice dams—water trapped by ice backing up under shingles. Metal's smooth, hard surface sheds meltwater faster than asphalt, reducing dam formation. Four-way interlocking panels with proper underlayment keep any meltwater that does back up from penetrating the roof deck. Optional snow guards hold snow in place if you want it, preventing sudden slides. The system's light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow load is never a structural concern, even after heavy storms.

Can a metal roof handle Arlington's wind and storms?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, far exceeding Arlington's typical gusts around 96 km/h. The four-way interlocking design creates a unified assembly where each panel locks to its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering, verified under ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, means your roof stays put during the windier days that punctuate the region's winters.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock metal roofs need virtually no maintenance—no moss scraping, gutter cleaning from granule shedding, or wood treatment. Asphalt shingles lose granules in Arlington's 1372 mm rain, clogging gutters; wood shakes split in freeze-thaw cycles and require sealing every few years; tile cracks and needs repairs. Metal panels don't degrade, don't absorb moisture, and don't require chemical treatment. Occasional light rinsing removes debris; that's it. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands, saving you years of ladder work and repair calls.

Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Metal roofing ends the cycle of tearing off asphalt shingles every 15–20 years and hauling them to the landfill. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum—at the end of their 50+ year life, they return to the recycling stream as feedstock for new products. Asphalt shingles cannot be recycled and persist in landfills. Choosing metal means one installation over a homeowner's lifetime instead of three or four tear-offs, dramatically cutting construction waste, fuel for disposal trucks, and your carbon footprint. It's the long-term environmental choice.

With 1372 mm of rain per year, will a metal roof leak?

No—four-way interlocking panels and proper installation create an extremely reliable water barrier. Arlington's 1372 mm annual rainfall is heavy, but metal roofing has been proven in far wetter climates for over 25 years. The interlocking seams have no exposed fasteners or gaps where water can enter; any water that reaches the seams is shed by overlap and gravity. Installed over quality underlayment and a solid or vented deck, the system handles even driving rain without penetration. The warranty covers leakage from material defects, giving you peace of mind in Snohomish County's consistently wet winters.
