Review: October 22, 2021 Completion: October 12, 2021

I think Interlock Roofing needs to improve on communication with their customers. When the salespeople came to do the sales pitch, the quote form was transferred into a contract instead of a check box form. It is difficult for the customer to understand the exact wording used in the contract. There was a lot of miscommunication because the workers didn't have the paperwork from the salesperson. I'd like to speak with corporate. I had the least positive interaction with the manager. I feel the manager of the job needs to do a walk-through with the paperwork prior to starting the job to avoid problems. HOMEOWNER REQUESTS THAT SURVEY RESPONSES NOT BE POSTED ON THE ONLINE PROFILE PAGE!

They did great. Just because I am not going to use the company doesn't mean that I wasn't impressed with the company and presentation.

Scheduling updates for the project before I ask for them would be good. This job got pushed out 3 times with only 1 day notice. Scheduling to be here is very difficult with this short notice. It would be nice if the Forman of the installation crew would talk to me when they show up and also when they are leaving each day. I am also awaiting a refund for services not needed but included in my original quote.

They could have asked me if there were options for the air vents. I was not informed that they were going to be that big. I wanted some that were smaller. I was wondering if I could have the leftover shingles.

Review: July 8, 2017 Completion: November 21, 2016

Have done! Most of the people I recommend Interlock to are greatly concerned about the cost; but our house was small and easy so the cost to us was not beyond what we wanted to pay for such a high quality roof. When we originally contacted interlock we needed a metal detached garage roof replaced. I explained the roof and the type of building and its construction to the person on the phone who said they could replace the roof. When the sales representative came to our property they were not able to replace the roof on our garage. But we knew we needed a new house roof and decided to go ahead with that. I wish your survey had a way to attach a photo, the house looks great!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Auburn

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Auburn, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Auburn.

Does metal roofing handle Auburn's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice effectively, even under Auburn's average of about 194 cm annually. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no snow weight compresses the material or creates structural stress. Aluminum's smooth surface and tight panel interlock prevent water from pooling and refreezing into ice dams, which is crucial during the region's 58 freeze–thaw days per year. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide-off timing, and the warranty covers the system through all freeze-thaw cycles.

Will a metal roof rust in Auburn's wet climate?

Aluminum roofing cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron—the element that corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the material underneath. If that layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. Given Auburn's 1761 mm of annual rainfall, this dual-layer protection is essential—and it's why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998.

How does aluminum roofing perform through freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum actually improves in freeze-thaw environments because it's inert—it doesn't absorb water, crack from ice expansion, or degrade as temperatures swing. Auburn experiences about 58 freeze–thaw days annually, and while asphalt shingles crack and wood shakes split under this stress, aluminum maintains its integrity. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) is engineered to expand and contract uniformly without chalking or delaminating. The four-way interlocking design also prevents water from entering seams, so ice formation inside the panel system never becomes a problem. This durability is why the Guardian Warranty covers all freeze-thaw damage for the original homeowner's lifetime.

Can a metal roof handle Auburn's heavy rainfall without leaking?

Auburn receives about 1761 mm of rain per year, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered specifically to shed this volume. The overlapping panel design creates a cascade effect—water flows from panel to panel without entering seams. Installation includes a solid deck and felt underlayment that catches any water that might slip through, adding a second line of defense. The system is code-compliant under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) and is rated Class A fire-resistant, meaning it meets the toughest weather and building standards. When installed to specification by a qualified installer, the interlock system has performed reliably in climates far wetter than the Pacific Northwest.

How strong do wind gusts have to be to damage a metal roof in Auburn?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Auburn's typical wind gusts peak around 128 km/h, so you have a comfortable safety margin. The four-way interlocking design—where each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides—prevents panels from lifting, separating, or sliding during wind events. This interlock strength, combined with proper fastening to the deck, distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. The system has withstood hurricane-force gusts and mountain passes worldwide, giving you genuine peace of mind during the Pacific Northwest's stormy seasons.

Does metal roofing require structural reinforcement for my home?

No structural reinforcement is needed—in fact, aluminum roofing is so lightweight that it actually reduces load on your home's framing. The Interlock Tile profile, which mimics the appearance of concrete or clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than real tile or slate. This extreme lightness means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without any additional support. Your home's current frame bears less total weight with an aluminum roof than it did with asphalt shingles, which translates to less long-term structural fatigue. The installation is straightforward and faster, lowering both labor time and cost compared to materials requiring reinforcement.

Does Interlock metal roofing have hail protection, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available for any roofing material. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior impact rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because hail damage claims drop dramatically. While Auburn's typical severe weather includes wind gusts to 128 km/h, hailstones pose less frequent but significant risk to traditional roofing. The aluminum alloy's inherent strength and the four-way interlocking design distribute impact force across panels and fasteners, preventing localized failure. Contact your insurer about discount eligibility once your Interlock roof is installed—many carriers recognize the Class 4 rating and the reduced claim likelihood.

What's the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no deductibles or pro-rata reduction as the roof ages. The warranty is also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion date. This is genuinely the last roof you buy: aluminum doesn't rot like wood, rust like steel, or degrade like asphalt. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against fading and chalking, your Interlock roof will protect your home through decades of Auburn's 1761 mm annual rainfall, 194 cm snow, and freeze–thaw cycles. Many Interlock roofs installed in the 1990s are still performing flawlessly.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Interlock aluminum roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no granule cleanup, no moss treatment, no caulking, no resealing. Unlike asphalt shingles (which shed granules and require replacement every 15–20 years), wood shake (which splits and rots), or concrete tile (which cracks and needs regrouting), aluminum simply sheds debris with rainfall. Auburn's abundant rain (1761 mm yearly) actually helps keep your roof clean. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is engineered to self-clean and resists mold and algae growth in the Pacific Northwest's damp environment. You may rinse leaves from gutters seasonally—the same maintenance any roof requires—but the roof itself remains maintenance-free. This low-care reality makes Interlock especially valuable for busy homeowners or aging-in-place situations.

Can metal roofing look like traditional materials I actually want?

Interlock offers five authentic profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam—each molded to replicate the texture and shadow lines of the real material. The Slate profile suits modern and traditional homes alike, Cedar Shingle evokes a classic Pacific Northwest farmhouse, Shake mimics hand-split wood grain, Mediterranean Tile brings Old World charm, and Standing Seam delivers contemporary appeal. All profiles are manufactured from the same premium 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years. Each profile performs identically in Auburn's climate—handling 194 cm of snow, 1761 mm of rain, and 128 km/h gusts—so your choice is purely aesthetic. Multiple colors are available in energy-efficient finishes, allowing you to match architectural style with performance and curb appeal.
