Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lyman

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lyman, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lyman.

How does a metal roof handle Lyman's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, slick surface prevents ice dams—critical in Skagit County where you get about 192 cm of snow annually and experience roughly 52 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are designed to resist ice buildup, and the lightweight aluminum (the Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) won't sag under snow load, so water drains cleanly rather than pooling and refreezing. Snow guards are available if you want to control avalanche shedding.

With 1744 mm of rain yearly in Lyman, will a metal roof leak?

Interlock's four-way interlocking design is engineered to shed water continuously; the overlapped panels create a labyrinth that forces water downward and outward, not inward. Heavy rainfall like Lyman's (~1744 mm per year) actually proves the system—installers have placed these roofs in coastal salt-air environments and Antarctic research stations, where moisture and extreme exposure are constant. Properly installed over a solid deck with underlayment, an Interlock metal roof is as leak-proof as modern engineering gets.

Are metal roofs safe in Lyman's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, which covers even the most severe gusts in Skagit County (typical gusts reach about 120 km/h). The four-way interlocking system means each panel locks to its neighbors at all four edges, so wind cannot work a panel loose or create uplift. This mechanical redundancy is why coastal and high-wind regions trust aluminum metal roofing—it doesn't rely on adhesive or a few nails.

Can a metal roof rust in Lyman's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. That oxide re-seals itself when scratched, which is why Interlock aluminum has been installed from salty coastal homes (where steel would corrode in years) to an Antarctic research station. Lyman's damp Skagit County climate will never cause rust—you're protected against the one corrosion failure that ends asphalt and steel roofs' lives.

Does freeze-thaw damage aluminum roofing?

No—aluminum is freeze-thaw stable because it doesn't absorb water. With about 52 freeze-thaw days per year in Lyman, materials like wood shake and asphalt absorb moisture, expand when frozen, and crack when thawed. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without damage. The Alunar coating on both panel surfaces (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) further seals the metal against any moisture infiltration, so freeze-thaw cycling simply doesn't harm aluminum.

Do metal roofs dent easily, and will insurance cover hail damage?

Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts for metal roofs, though you'll want to check your own policy. Hail in Skagit County is less common than snow, but when severe weather strikes, a Class 4-rated roof often costs less to insure over time than asphalt, and you'll never need a tear-off replacement.

Will my house need reinforcement for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roof structures without additional support. In fact, you can often install Interlock directly over an existing asphalt roof, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. This light weight is one reason metal roofing is gaining popularity in older homes where structural capacity is a concern.

What's covered under Interlock's warranty, and how long does it last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the complete list of failure modes that end conventional roofs. It's transferable once to the next owner, giving them 50 years from completion. This means you're buying the last roof you'll install, and a future buyer sees real value knowing hail, freeze-thaw, and corrosion are covered for five decades.

How often do I need to maintain a metal roof?

Aluminum metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt (which degrades under Lyman's ~2727 sunshine hours annually), wood shake (which splits and rots), or tile (which cracks and requires expert repair). The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years, so repainting is rare. You'll rinse off debris after storms and check gutters, just as you would with any roof—but you'll never pay to seal, patch, or tear off an Interlock roof.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over its lifespan?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but you buy once—asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years, so over 50+ years you'll replace asphalt multiple times. Factor in labor, landfill disposal, and the fact that asphalt degrades under Lyman's combination of heavy rain (~1744 mm/year), UV exposure (~2727 sunshine hours), and freeze-thaw stress (~52 days/year), and a metal roof becomes the lower total-cost option. Interlock's lifetime warranty and 50-year transferable coverage mean the next owner absorbs no roof risk—a real asset when selling. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
