Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for North Shore, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Need someone on the crew that speaks better English for improved communication.
The adjusted bid didn't show up for final financing, there could have had better communication between Ross and everybody else, Ross and I discussed at length and the gutters didn't end up on the installers paperwork, so, that's why it didn't get done correctly, because the information didn't get passed on to him. Once it was identified, Ross made arrangements to get that done. the skylight that showed up was the wrong size so the installer had to order a new one and took three weeks to show up. It was an outdoor skylight so it really didn't matter but they should have been more thorough with that.
all good
We were extremely pleased with Interlock Roofing as our selection to install an aluminum roof on our house and two outbuildings. The installation team were extremely hard workers and were always courteous and conscientious and left our project very clean. We would highly recommend all of them to anyone interested in a new roof including Paul Wright and the administration staff. Ron and Joanne Quiring nothing
In March of 2016, we contracted with Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems to replace the cedar shingles on our roof. After a couple of dates were scheduled and changed, the job was finally completed on June 22, 2016. The work crew was very good – showed up as scheduled and the work was completed in 2 days. That is, old shingles removed and new Interlock system installed. We are very pleased with the finished look of our roof and have had no problems with it. Everyone in our neighborhood who have seen it also is impressed with the product. We would definitely refer anyone we know to your company if they are looking for a new roof.
Our house was built 26 years ago beautiful rambler but on the Golf course. The original roof was black cement tiles and 6 years later without any protection from the golf balls we had to change to wood shakes. That roof lasted 20 years with lots of problems like leaks and ants invasion. It did not matter if we had a protective net from the golf balls and it was time to do something. I found Interlock on the Internet and when I checked with our community covenants they did not have anything against metal roofing. I choose the Red slate and I am so very happy with my choice. Now I will never again have ants or leaks because I was watching how the crew sealed everything and the job was done very professionaly.Thank you Interlock for making my home look so beautiful they could have had the delivery of the tiles during the preparation and removal of the shakes; the Federal Express was one week late and the roof sat there all ready for the delivery. I don't know whose fault it was but then the crew worked diligently to finish the job. I am very happy with my new roof the first in the area where I live and everybody is taking about it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Shore
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Shore, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Shore.
Will a metal roof handle North Shore's snow load and ice buildup?
Yes — aluminum's light weight and smooth interlocking panels shed snow and ice far better than asphalt or wood. With about 52 cm of snow per year in this region and roughly 58 freeze-thaw days annually, you need a roof that won't trap moisture or degrade with seasonal cycling. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and non-rusting aluminum core mean the panels won't swell, crack, or corrode as snow and ice build up and melt. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating also protects against hail that often accompanies winter storms here.
How does aluminum metal roofing hold up in freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot — the two primary failure modes of asphalt and wood in repeated cold-wet cycles. North Shore experiences roughly 58 freeze-thaw days per year, which would degrade asphalt shingles and cause wood shakes to split. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains its structural integrity through unlimited freeze-thaw cycles. The oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually self-heals when scratched, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking for 30 years, so your roof won't degrade visibly even after decades of seasonal swings.
Can metal roofing handle the wind gusts North Shore experiences?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec — well beyond the typical 96 km/h (60 mph) gusts recorded in this region. The four-way interlocking system means each panel is mechanically fastened and supported on all four sides, so individual panels cannot lift or blow off even during the strongest seasonal storms. Installation over existing roofing also provides extra anchor points and distributes wind load across a broader base. This engineering, combined with ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, ensures your roof will not fail during the weather Mason County regularly throws at it.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
No. Interlock's aluminum panels weigh roughly 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile — about 96% lighter than traditional slate, concrete, or clay tile. Your existing roof framing can almost always support them without any structural work. This is especially valuable in North Shore, where heavier roofing materials would add unnecessary stress to older homes. The lightweight design also means installation is faster and safer, and you can install Interlock directly over your existing asphalt roof, avoiding a costly tear-off and keeping debris out of local landfills.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum contains no iron — iron is what rusts when it oxidizes. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, invisible oxide layer when exposed to air, and this layer actually self-heals when scratched or damaged. Steel, by contrast, continues to corrode once its protective coating is breached. In North Shore's damp climate with about 1372 mm annual rainfall and seasonal temperature swings, steel would develop rust stains within years. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum core is paired with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF finish (applied to both sides for extra salt-air protection), creating a system that simply cannot rust. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting for your lifetime.
Is metal roofing really cheaper than replacing asphalt every 20 years?
Over 50 years, yes — aluminum typically costs less than three asphalt replacements. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years in North Shore's wet, freeze-thaw climate, meaning you'll replace it multiple times while paying tear-off labor, disposal fees, and reinstallation costs each cycle. Interlock is a one-time install with a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner. The aluminum will outlast the building, and if you sell, the next owner gets a 50-year transferable warranty. Right now, we're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation — that eliminates the upfront sticker shock and lets you capture decades of roof-free living.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Almost none. Asphalt shingles require regular inspections, missing-shingle replacement, and moss/algae cleaning in wet climates like North Shore's (1372 mm rain yearly). Wood shakes must be treated, sealed, and individually replaced as they split or rot. Interlock aluminum panels don't rot, split, curl, or require coating renewal because the Alunar finish is rated to resist chalking and fading for 30 years. Rain naturally cleans the surface. CALGreen has verified Interlock as a reduced-maintenance roofing option. Beyond the occasional leaf clearing from gutters, your only task is a visual inspection every few years — no expensive contractors, no ongoing costs. That's why the warranty is non-prorated.
What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original homeowner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance due to material defect. Non-prorated means Interlock covers full replacement cost even after 40 or 50 years — you don't pay a percentage based on age. The warranty is also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from the completion date. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against chalking and fading, you're getting a roof engineered to last longer than most mortgages. In North Shore's challenging 1372 mm annual rainfall and 58 freeze-thaw days per year, that certainty is invaluable.
Is metal roofing fire-safe for my North Shore home?
Yes — Interlock offers Class A fire ratings (non-combustible), the highest available. Aluminum is non-combustible by nature, so the roof won't ignite or spread flames. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC and IRC fire codes. This matters even in wet climates like North Shore because wildfire risk is rising across the Pacific Northwest, and insurance companies increasingly reward non-combustible roofing with lower premiums. Class A certification also gives you peace of mind during the dry summer months when wind gusts to 96 km/h can carry embers. The combination of fire safety and a 120 mph wind warranty means your home is protected against both fire and the storms that bring it.
Does a metal roof help with heating and cooling costs?
Yes — energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In North Shore, with about 2907 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces summer cooling demand and lowers your AC costs. In winter, the reflective properties don't hurt heating efficiency because your home's insulation is what matters — the roof simply doesn't trap unnecessary heat gain. The lightweight design also means faster installation, less labor-hours, and no structural work required. These features combined lower both your immediate energy bills and your total ownership cost over decades.
Is a metal roof a good choice for North Shore’s climate?
Yes. North Shore averages about 52 cm of snow, 1372 mm of rain, roughly 58 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 96 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
