Your home is your greatest investment, sheltering you from the storms. Don’t nickel and dime yourself when choosing a roof, you get what you pay for. We chose Interlock aluminum roofing for our house, and are totally pleased with it. Aluminum doesn’t rust period. The current rage of steel roofing is a racket preying on uninformed consumers who want something for next to nothing. Steel roofs are coated to prevent rust. However, once these coatings wear off rust sets in. I have personally seen an 18 year-old steel roof with significant rusting after the coating was gone. Do yourself a favor, get an Interlock aluminum roof. Dean Landers 5 star review June 9/2026 Janesville WI

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Footville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Footville, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Footville.

Will a metal roof handle Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or deteriorating?

Yes — aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting, even through Footville's roughly 85 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike wood shakes or concrete tile that absorb moisture and degrade when water freezes inside them, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is non-porous and non-hygroscopic. The four-way interlocking panels allow each sheet to move independently while staying locked together, so thermal stress distributes evenly across the roof instead of concentrating at seams.

How does a metal roof perform with Footville's annual snowfall and ice dam risk?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice adhesion — critical in an area averaging about 81 cm of snow per year. Snow slides off faster, reducing ice dam formation at the eaves. The panels' interlocking design and standing-seam profile options create no horizontal ledges where ice can pool. Metal also conducts heat differently than asphalt, helping melt snow from below when interior warmth rises, while remaining durable enough to handle the mechanical stress of snow movement.

Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel when both are metal?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that seals the surface and heals itself when scratched, providing permanent corrosion resistance without ongoing maintenance. Steel roofs, even galvanized ones, will eventually rust through at fasteners and cut edges, especially as Footville experiences about 863 mm of rain annually plus salt-carrying air. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (both sides, 30-year warranty) adds a second line of defense, making rusting physically impossible.

Can a metal roof survive Wisconsin wind gusts and storms?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph and handle Footville's typical gusts of about 97 km/h without issue. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel on all four edges to its neighbors, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that lift and separate. This engineering means wind pressure that pushes on one panel distributes across the entire roof assembly. UL and ICC testing (ESR-1790) confirms the system's integrity under uplift forces — the rating that matters most in storm-prone regions.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure before installing a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb per square foot — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so most existing roofs can support the installation without modification. Even the heavier Cedar Shingle profile comes in under 0.5 lb/sq ft. This extreme lightness lets you install over existing asphalt shingles, avoiding costly tearoff and disposal. For reference, traditional tile can weigh 600–700 pounds per square foot, making aluminum a structural game-changer on older homes not engineered for heavy materials.

Does Interlock Metal Roofing stand up to hail, and will my insurance notice?

Yes — Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That combination gives insurers confidence. Non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire available) also reduces risk profiles. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions qualify for insurance discounts with metal roofs, though your carrier's specific discount depends on their underwriting. The lightweight design means hail damage won't compromise structural integrity the way it can with heavy slate or tile.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually require compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal requires almost none. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade under UV and crack, wood shakes that rot and split, or tile that fractures and leaks, aluminum panels don't absorb moisture, splinter, or delaminate. Your main task is occasional debris cleanup and gutter clearing — the same as any roof. The Alunar coating (both sides) resists chalk and fading for 30 years without refinishing. CALGreen building standards recognize metal roofing specifically for reduced maintenance burden. Over a 50-year lifespan, that means decades without costly repairs, patch kits, or premature replacement.

Do metal roofs really save money on heating and cooling in Wisconsin?

Metal roofs reflect rather than absorb solar heat — an advantage in any climate, but especially for cooling costs. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away that dark asphalt absorbs and traps. During Footville's roughly 3079 annual sunshine hours, that reflection reduces attic temperature and air-conditioning load. Cool Roof Rating Council testing validates the performance. Metal doesn't insulate *better* than asphalt, but it prevents heat from entering your home in the first place — a meaningful difference across summer months.

Is a metal roof a good financial investment compared to replacing asphalt every 15–20 years?

Yes. The Guardian Warranty covers the material for life (non-prorated for the original owner) and transfers 50 years to the next owner — meaning one installation lasts longer than three or four asphalt roofs. Material costs more upfront, but you eliminate repeated tearoff labor, disposal fees, and replacement costs across decades. Asphalt shingles don't handle Footville's 81 cm snow, 85 freeze-thaw cycles, and 97 km/h gusts as well, often failing early in harsh seasons. A metal roof absorbs those climate stresses without maintenance or decline — the last roof you'll install.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Footville, and how long have they been doing it?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001 — over two decades of experience installing these systems through Wisconsin's variable weather. That tenure means the installer understands local conditions: heavy snow loads, freeze-thaw stress, wind patterns, and which profiles and colors hold up best in Rock County. They're familiar with permitting, can advise on whether to install over existing shingles or tear off, and will warranty the installation to spec. Local service also means responsive support if anything needs attention — no waiting for a distant contractor to travel.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Footville’s climate?

Yes. Footville averages about 81 cm of snow, 863 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
