Your home is your greatest investment, sheltering you from the storms. Don’t nickel and dime yourself when choosing a roof, you get what you pay for. We chose Interlock aluminum roofing for our house, and are totally pleased with it. Aluminum doesn’t rust period. The current rage of steel roofing is a racket preying on uninformed consumers who want something for next to nothing. Steel roofs are coated to prevent rust. However, once these coatings wear off rust sets in. I have personally seen an 18 year-old steel roof with significant rusting after the coating was gone. Do yourself a favor, get an Interlock aluminum roof. Dean Landers 5 star review June 9/2026 Janesville WI

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Orfordville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Orfordville, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Orfordville.

Does metal roofing handle Wisconsin snow and ice better than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt's rough texture, which traps moisture and promotes ice dam formation. Orfordville receives about 83 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 85 freeze-thaw cycles per year, creating ideal conditions for ice dams on conventional roofs. Metal panels shed snow cleanly because they expand and contract uniformly, and you can add snow guards if desired. The four-way interlocking design (ESR-1790 certified for IBC/IRC codes) prevents water infiltration even when snow sits on seams—a critical advantage during thaw cycles.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage a metal roof in Wisconsin winters?

Aluminum will not crack, curl, or split under freeze-thaw stress because it's a homogeneous metal without the micro-fractures that develop in brittle materials like asphalt and wood shakes. Orfordville's 85 annual freeze-thaw days are precisely the condition that degrades conventional roofing; metal panels simply cycle dimensionally without damage. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains flexible across temperature swings and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading even after decades of freeze-thaw exposure. Aluminum alloy 3105-H24 was engineered for this exact climate stress pattern.

Can a metal roof withstand Wisconsin wind and thunderstorm gusts?

Absolutely. Orfordville experiences typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching 97 km/h, and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding local conditions. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together at every edge, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than allowing individual shingles to lift. This design is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, the standard for severe weather. Thousands of metal roofs have survived hurricanes and derechos; your Orfordville home will handle spring storms with zero concern about blow-off or uplift.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing earns UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most homeowners experience no visible hail damage whatsoever because aluminum's hardness and the panel's curved profiles deflect impacts. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofing; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the lifetime warranty details. In Orfordville's climate, hail risk is real but manageable, and a roof that won't be punctured or dented by typical hail offers peace of mind asphalt simply cannot match.

Does my house need structural reinforcement for a metal roof?

No. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes' existing framing easily handles this weight without reinforcement. In fact, you can often install metal roofing directly over your current asphalt shingles, avoiding expensive tear-off costs and landfill waste. A structural engineer will rarely find any Orfordville home requiring bracing. The lightweight aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24) gives you the aesthetic of heavy traditional materials—slate, shake, Mediterranean tile—without the engineering headaches or foundation stress.

What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock metal roofing carries The Guardian lifetime limited warranty for the original owner—non-prorated, meaning no coverage erosion over time—and it's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. In practice, aluminum panels last 50–70 years or more; the coating carries a separate 30-year color and fade warranty. This is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles typically need replacement every 15–25 years and end in landfills; metal roofing ends the cycle and transfers real value to your next owner.

Is a metal roof fire-safe, and does that matter for insurance?

Yes—Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and Class A fire-rated (the highest classification available), which is attractive to insurers and provides genuine safety in wildfire or nearby fire conditions. Non-combustible materials cannot ignite or contribute to fire spread, a distinction asphalt and wood shake roofs cannot claim. Your insurer may offer rate reductions for Class A fire rating; confirm this when requesting a quote. Aluminum's inherent non-flammability, combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF finish and four-way interlocking design, means your home is protected against both external fire threat and any internal ignition pathway through the roof.

Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer, and how much?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does, reducing cooling demand in warmer months. The Aged Copper Penny color achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, both measured and Cool Roof Rating Council rated. Orfordville enjoys about 3107 hours of sunshine annually—plenty of opportunity for a reflective roof to lower air-conditioning load. Summer cooling savings vary by home size and HVAC efficiency, but homeowners typically see 5–15% reductions in peak cooling costs. Even modest savings compound over a 50-year lifespan, offsetting the upfront investment while keeping your home more comfortable.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Most residential installations complete in 2–5 days depending on roof size and weather, with minimal disruption to your daily life. Yes, you can install Interlock metal panels directly over existing asphalt shingles in most cases—the lightweight aluminum (roughly 96% lighter than traditional tile) won't stress the decking. This avoid costly and wasteful tear-off. Your local Interlock installer, serving the Orfordville area since 2001, will assess your specific roof structure and confirm the best approach during a free site visit. The installation process follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 guidelines and includes proper sealing, fastening, and underlayment to ensure a watertight system ready for Wisconsin's 828 mm annual rainfall and heavy snow loads.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. The aluminum itself is manufactured responsibly (in Delta, BC, since 1998) and can be melted and reused indefinitely without degradation. By choosing a roof that lasts 50–70 years instead of replacing asphalt every 15–25 years, you eliminate the waste stream and the energy cost of repeated manufacturing, shipping, and disposal. Orfordville homeowners who care about carbon footprint find metal roofing aligns with environmental values while saving money—no trade-off required. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance and landfill impact.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Orfordville’s climate?

Yes. Orfordville averages about 83 cm of snow, 828 mm of rain, roughly 85 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
