Review: July 20, 2016

I want to share my experience about getting a new roof with Interlock Roofing. I purchased a house with the knowledge that a new roof was needed. The idea of an expensive reoccurring expense on anywhere from a 15 to a 25-year time period was unsettling. After purchasing my townhouse, one of my goals was to make my house as maintenance-free as possible with the knowledge that in the future, the home may not be owner-occupied. After I had Greg Webber come out and give me an estimate, I took a bit of time to do research and look at quite a few homes with different styles and colors. As an engineer, I was impressed with the material and the commitment that Interlock has to stand by not only the product but also the installation. The thought of my roof either maintaining or appreciating in value over time put my mind at ease, looking forward to the future. After deciding to move forward with Interlock, the decision was what color and style. This was maybe the most difficult part of the decision, and am thankful for Greg, and the patience had with me. I was able to find a time that would be feasible for Greg and another family member to finalize the color and style. I went with the slate and the weathered gray which ended up matching well with the front of the house, which has white and gray in the brick and did not contrast to sharp with the tan of the siding. Due to the original construction of my house, there were some concerns that I had with the roof and the install. When the house was originally constructed, there was only roof vents on one side for ventilation; also, I wanted to remove the Satellite dish that was installed on the chimney and last but not least, the flashing around the chimney was incorrect and did not have a kick out to drain the water into the gutters, and therefore I drained into my garage instead. Jesse did a terrific job of the installation and addressed all of the issues of the original construction, and couldn’t be any happier. Since completion, I have received numerous compliments from neighbors and friends. If I had to install a roof again, there would be no question that I would go with Interlock Roofing again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Stone Bank

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Stone Bank, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Stone Bank.

Will metal roofing handle Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or curling, which matters in Stone Bank where you see about 81 freeze-thaw days per year. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold and softens in heat, developing stress fractures that accelerate over time. Aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy is engineered for thermal cycling; the four-way interlocking panels move as one system rather than as individual shingles, eliminating the micro-fractures that shorten asphalt life. Combined with 88 cm of annual snow, that durability translates to a roof that stays intact where others start failing after 15–20 years.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dams in Wisconsin?

Metal panels shed snow and ice more readily than asphalt because the smooth surface, even in profiles like Slate or Cedar Shingle, provides less friction for snow to grip. Stone Bank receives about 88 cm of snow annually and experiences wind gusts up to 100 km/h, which naturally clear lighter snow. The four-way interlocking design resists uplift from wind, so panels stay seated even when snow is sliding off. Optional snow guards can be installed where you want snow retention for insulation or aesthetics. Because aluminum is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, your roof carries the snow load without requiring structural reinforcement—the system simply performs better under Wisconsin's seasonal stress.

Can a metal roof withstand Stone Bank's winter wind gusts?

The warranty covers wind resistance up to 120 mph, and Stone Bank's typical gusts reach about 100 km/h—well within that safety margin. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock edge-to-edge and panel-to-panel, creating a unified system that doesn't flex or rattle the way individual asphalt shingles do. Each panel is fastened through the interlock, not the face, so the fasteners are hidden and protected from wind shear. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the installation method for high-wind zones. Even in severe conditions, the panels remain seated; you won't see lifted or missing shingles like you do with asphalt roofs after hard winter storms.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a climate like Stone Bank?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal oxidizes into an aluminum oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched. This matters in Waukesha County where you get 775 mm of annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles that trap moisture against the roof. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint systems to prevent rust and fails if that paint chips. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum is finished with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides—even the underside stays protected in high-moisture conditions. You'll never replace this roof because rust created a hole, and the 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading ensures the finish outlasts any asphalt layer you've owned.

Do metal roofs actually save energy, or is that marketing?

energy-efficient colors with solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Stone Bank receives about 3,074 sunshine hours per year—that's real solar gain even in a northern climate. A reflective metal roof keeps the underside cooler, reducing air-conditioning load in summer and, more subtly, lowering the temperature swing that drives heat loss through your attic in winter. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating quantifies this effect. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cumulative cooling savings offset the material difference between asphalt and aluminum, making it an economic choice, not just an environmental one.

Does a metal roof protect against hail damage and lower insurance?

UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—covers hailstones up to 1.5 inches, and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hail. Many insurers recognize this rating and offer premium reductions for metal roofing, though discounts vary by carrier and policy. Asphalt simply splits under hard hail, creating leaks that aren't always visible until water damage appears inside. Aluminum dents but does not perforate under impact; if a dent bothers you aesthetically, it's a surface issue, not a structural one. In Wisconsin, where hail season aligns with spring thunderstorms, a Class 4 roof is genuine protection against the repair costs and deductibles that follow a major hail event.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Metal costs more initially, but asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years—potentially three roofs over 50 years—plus tear-off and disposal fees each time. Stone Bank's 81 freeze-thaw days and 88 cm snow accelerate asphalt degradation because of thermal cycling stress. A metal roof installed once, with a lifetime limited material warranty from the original owner and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner, ends the replacement treadmill. You're not just buying durability; you're buying the last roof you install. When you sell, the 50-year transferable term is a genuine asset that boosts buyer confidence and justifies a higher resale price, recovering much of the upfront premium.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Unlike asphalt, which requires regular inspection for loose tabs and torn shingles, or wood shake, which needs treatment and can rot, Interlock metal roofing requires no annual maintenance. Aluminum doesn't degrade from UV or moisture; the PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Stone Bank's 775 mm annual rainfall rinses the roof naturally; debris such as leaves wash off or blow away from the smooth interlocked surface. You don't pressure-wash it, you don't replace individual panels because they cracked, and you don't worry about moss or wood-boring insects. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements. Over 50 years, that means no gutter cleaning complications from shingle granules and no emergency repairs from UV-damaged asphalt—just a roof that works.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes—the Interlock profiles install over most existing roofs because aluminum weighs so little: Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58, Tile at 0.59 (about 96% lighter than concrete tile), so no structural reinforcement is needed. A solid deck and underlayment create an air gap that decouples the metal panels from moisture and sound, mimicking the performance of traditional tile. The installation process is straightforward: nail or screw fasteners through the interlocking edges, following ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications for your wind zone. Most roofs complete in days rather than weeks, minimizing disruption. The result is a new roof without the cost and mess of full tear-off and disposal.
