Airdrie, AB Metal Roofing Review â 50-Year Interlock Roof (Installed 2015)
Airdrie, AB
TL;DR: Airdrie Review Summary
Roofing installation in Airdrie: homeowner replaced a 15-year-old roof after noticing no gravel left on the shingles, responding to an Interlock Roofing ad offering a 50-year guarantee. They met with Brad, materials arrived in about 15 days and installer Jamie put the new roof directly over the old one (installation took about a week with 1.5 rain days), with daily updates and two post-install follow-ups from Brad. Since installation, three hail storms caused no roof damage or gravel loss, indoor temperatures are more consistent, the warranty is transferable, and the homeowner reports peace of mind and no plan to replace the roof again.
We read an ad in our local newspaper and it talked about the last roof we would ever put on our house guaranteed for 50 years. There was a phone number to call and we really needed to get a new roof as ours was 15 years old and there was no gravel left on the shingles. We called Interlock Roofing, we arranged a date to meet and discuss the application of his product. Within a few days Brad was here and we had a very pleasant and informative meeting with him. By the end of our meeting, we had decided this was the way we wanted to go. Brad said within about thirty days the material and installers would arrive and install the roof. The material arrived within about 15 days and about a month later our installer was on the roof. Jamie a very nice and polite man arrived and introduced himself, he explained what and how he would do the work. We talked daily with Jamie and he would update us on how it was going. They didnât have to strip the old roof they put the new roof right on top of the old one, saving waste going into the landfill and it didnât matter if it rained during the installation. It took Jamie about a week, he got rained out one and a half days. When he left at the end of the install there was no sign of him working here other then a new roof. Since the new roof has been installed we have noticed no damage and we have had three " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail storms that damaged vehicles and siding on houses. I was amazed how the hail just bounced off the roof, and no piles of gravel at the bottom of our downspouts, and no shingles lifting off. The house temperature is more consistent it doesnât get really warm or really cool it stays where we set it and is more comfortable then before. If you are thinking of replacing your roof you should consider investing in your house and protecting it with an interlock roofing system. I feel good knowing I will never replace our roof again , the material stands up to anything the Alberta weather dishes out and there is peace of mind knowing what you see is what you get today , tomorrow and in the future. The warranty is transferable and the roofing system will ad value to our house if we every were to sell, which I donât think we will do as we live on an acreage and have the million dollar Mountain View. Brad has come back out to our home twice since the installation, just to make sure we are happy with the new roof. Itâs nice to know that he cares even after the bill has been paid. Thanks to Jamie and Brad we have nothing to worry about, that a nice feeling when it comes to our home.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Airdrie
Homeowners researching metal roofing in Airdrie often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Airdrie may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.
How long will a metal roof last in Airdrie, AB?
Metal roofs commonly last at least 50â75+ years, while asphalt shingle roofs usually last 15â30 years depending on product and installation. Airdrie sees cold, snowy winters with frequent freezeâthaw cycles and significant snow loads that stress roof membranes and flashings, and the Calgary region is also in âhail alleyâ where summertime hail and strong prairie winds can damage shingles but are less damaging to metal panels. Because metal sheds snow, resists freezeâthaw deterioration and tolerates hail and wind better than asphalt, many homeowners in Airdrie choose durable metal systems for longer service life and lower longâterm maintenance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavyâgauge aluminum and a lifetime limited 50âyear transferable warranty designed for longâterm protection.
How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Airdrie, AB?
How much does a metal roof cost in Airdrie? Metal roofing typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but the final price varies with roof size, slope, complexity, tearâoff, flashing, skylights and labour. Local factors â heavy winter snow loads and frequent freezeâthaw cycles in Airdrie â can increase installation requirements (stronger fastening, iceâshield underlay, snow retention) and therefore cost. Many homeowners compare options on lifetime value rather than initial price: durable metal systems often lower longâterm repair and replacement costs, offsetting higher first costs. Get written quotes from local contractors that include tearâoff, permits and warranty coverage to compare lifetime costs. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on longâterm ownership value rather than competing as a lowâcost roofing option.
Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Airdrie home?
Airdrie sees cold, snowy winters with frequent freezeâthaw cycles and notable hail/chinook-driven temperature swingsâconditions that stress roofing materials and increase storm damage risk. Lifespan: asphalt shingles typically last ~15â25 years in this climate; metal roofs often last 40+ years. Maintenance: shingles need more frequent repairs, inspection after hail/wind and replacing damaged shingles; metal generally needs less routine upkeep. Durability: metal resists rot, freezeâthaw cracking and wind uplift better; large hail can dent some metal profiles but asphalt is more likely to lose granules and fail sooner. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal is offset by longer service life, lower maintenance and better resale value for homeowners prioritizing long-term protection. Homeowners wanting durability, snow-shedding performance and architectural curb appeal often choose metalâInterlock Metal Roofing systems appeal for their long-term performance, clean look and engineered interlocking panels that resist wind and snow.
Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Airdrie?
Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Airdrie, AB? That's a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking donât reverberate like barn roofs. The perceived sound depends on insulation, attic space, underlayment and overall roof assembly; a ventilated attic or quality insulation dampens rain noise. Installation qualityâtight fastening, proper underlayment and flashingsâalso matters. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile, not noticeably louder. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, with components chosen to control weather and acoustic performance. In Airdrieâs climate these roofs perform well acoustically; choose experienced installers who follow manufacturer guidelines.
How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Airdrie?
Metal roofing can be energy efficient in Airdrie. Its reflective coatings reduce absorbed solar heat, lowering cooling demand in summer. Overall energy performance also depends on the complete roof assemblyâinsulation level, air tightness and ventilationâwhich control heat loss in Airdrieâs cold winters and heat gain during warmer months. Local climate conditions determine how much benefit youâll see: reflection helps on sunny days, while insulation and ventilation matter most for heatingâseason efficiency. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritise energy efficiency to reduce utility bills, increase yearâround comfort, extend roof and HVAC lifespan, and improve resale value. Consider lightâcoloured finishes and highâreflectivity coatings to maximise benefits. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support longâterm home performance.
How does metal roofing in Airdrie, AB withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?
How do metal roofs hold up in Airdrie, ABâs severe weather? Airdrie frequently experiences severe thunderstorms, damaging hail, heavy winds and intense rain that stress roofs. Local reporting also notes increased hail activity in the âHail Alleyâ area around Airdrie. Metal roofing performs well in high winds (interlocking panels resist uplift), sheds heavy rain and snow, and certain engineered profiles offer strong impact resistance against hail. Actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability. Homeowners weigh weather resilience to protect the structure, reduce repair claims and extend service life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered specifically for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, but outcomes still rely on correct specification and professional installation. Look for products with tested impact ratings and windâload certifications suited to Airdrieâs conditions.
Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Airdrie's wet climate?
Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal used; steel, copper and aluminium all behave differently. Some materialsâsuch as aluminium and properly coated steelsâare much more resistant to corrosion than bare, untreated metals. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a stable oxide layer that prevents further deterioration. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance when choosing roofing to avoid leaks, structural damage, higher maintenance and premature replacement, especially in Airdrie, AB, where freezeâthaw cycles and summer storms can accelerate corrosion. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra longâterm protection against the elements. This reduces lifetime costs and helps preserve property value.
How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Airdrie?
Metal roofing in Airdrie, Alberta is generally low maintenance and highly durable, making it a good longâterm choice. However, no roof is completely maintenanceâfree. Homeowners should inspect their roof periodicallyâafter storms and at least twice yearlyâfor loose fasteners, damaged flashings, and compromised sealant around vents, skylights and chimneys. Remove debris such as leaves and branches, and ensure eavestroughs and downspouts remain clear to prevent water backup. Check valley areas and roof penetrations for corrosion, seal failure or paint loss, and watch for denting after hail or wind events common to the region. Promptly addressing issues keeps performance and warranty intact. Overall, with occasional inspections and simple upkeep, metal roofs provide reliable, lowâmaintenance protection in Airdrieâs climate.
How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Airdrie?
In Airdrie, AB, metal roofing can increase home value because buyers value durable, lowâmaintenance roofs that reduce future repair concerns. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, helping homes stand out on resale. A long lifespanâoften decadesâimproves buyer confidence and can justify higher offers. That said, architectural style matters in neighbourhoods: buyers expect roofs that suit local streetscapes, so choose a profile that complements nearby homes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profilesâslate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seamâavailable in heavy gauge aluminium and solid copper, letting you match style while delivering longevity and low upkeep. Together these features can make metal roofing a compelling investment for Airdrie sellers.
Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Airdrie?
Airdrie sees heavy snowfall with frequent freezeâthaw cycles and occasional hail, which increase snow loads and impact risk for roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar installation with the installation of custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. Because metal roofs shed snow, resist freezeâthaw damage and stand up well to hail, their long lifespan makes them a preferred substrate for PV arrays; roof lifespan matters since replacing a roof after panels are installed adds removal/reinstallation costs. When comparing materials in Airdrie, plan for future solar when reroofingâInterlock systems are solarâcompatible and designed to support solar mounting solutions.
