At this point, until the issues are resolved I would definitely not recommend this company. 1.Workmanship, 2. Timing to completion and 3. Follow up repairs and proper flashing terminations, ridge cap accessories. I would like a follow up from upper management from the head office in interlock industries.

“I had the house custom built for myself and my family in 1999. During the construction we paid close attention to all of the clean straight lines and details to all exterior trim and flashing. I was quite disturbed on the first day of the project to find one of the workers hammering away on the fascia. He was attempting to fold back and reverse by hammering back over the edge of the roof. This being 30 gauge aluminum it was destroyed. A starter strip had already been installed over the damaged fascia, i assumed he figured this was acceptable. I raised my objection and said the fascia had to be removed, and i would go out and source for replacement sections. Checking at several suppliers I could not find the same profile to match and ordered replacements to be made. Upon returning I found the starter strips on the south side, were not installed in a straight line and asked for this to be corrected. This is on day one and should have not happened. I contacted my sales rep and was told "to keep your receipts". I was beginning to feel uneasy about the project, and the worker was working alone on a steep pitched roof. Being trained on working at heights myself, I feel there should have been at least two people on site for safety reasons. I contacted company and was told that someone else would be out to help him the next day. As the project progressed there were issues with the started strips having to be re installed after I raised concerns about them being installed crooked. I met with Sheldon, assistant installation manager voicing my concerns. He assured me they would replace damaged fascia that I ordered and have a second worker on site. I stated to Sheldon that I felt I needed to take time off due to safety watch, he said it was not necessary. During the entire project there was only one person working on site working on my roof. I took unpaid time off work to supervise and act as safety watch. There was also issues with the trim at the siding, as any water running down the trim would be running behind the siding. I raised this concern but the company did not have a solution and said they would pass it on. I ended up fabricating the proper flashing termination myself. The trim along the wall did not line up with the side angles. I asked for two sections to be reinstalled. When they were brought to the site the next day they were the wrong color and profile. On the third attempt they were the right color but were narrower. I modified them. I questions workers ability to preform proper metal fitting. As the ridge vent was being installed, I raised my concerns for two issues. 1. The gap between the cap and the upper row of shingles appears too small. Only 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap the venting material was approx 5/8 thick but there is no provision to prevent it from being completely compressed causing the gap to be reduced to almost nothing. I raised this issue with the company and they suggested they would bring this up during their weekly meeting, and forward it to the proper channels. 2. The ridge cap is very uneven, as estimated from looking from the gown it starts high on the end and sags or drops 1-2 inches in the middle. As I mentioned earlier we paid close attention to these lines and details as the house was being built. This would not have been accepted then and should not now. I don't understand how anyone would accept this. The company responded saying it would be addressed but raised concern about accessing the finished roof area without damaging the roof. Does this mean if the roof requires access that damage will result? this doesn't seem right. I also indicated several shingles have already been damaged workers using roof jacks. The company indicated they could be straightened but worker said couldn't be done. A new roof was damaged before completion? When I was installing the trim at the siding I noticed several raised bumps on the lower roof. It appears as several fasteners were left between the new shingles and decking. Besides looking unsightly I'm concerned that these will eventually compromise the shingles integrity. Is the roof typically swept and checked before the membrane is installed? I would like these fasteners removed. I have tried to maintain a good working relationship with the company through out this project, taking time off work to act as a safety watch for the single worker on site and supervising the work, removing deck rails, supplying a washroom when I was told I wouldn't have to, and working with the on site manager on problems that arose. I paid for a premium product and expect premium workmanship.”

“During as service call out when the roofs membrane was ripped during a wind storm, an alternate worker was sent to the site to do the emergency repair. When he was on the roof he threw his hammer and nails off the roof into the grass beyond the working perimeter. He apologized at that point, and was concerned as the nails that were thrown were from a nail gun cartridge and were very sharp and could possibly cut my child's or dog's feet. We spent approximately 1 hour on the ground trying to find them, but could not. I went out and purchased a magnetic sweeping tool, and the next day the previous nights worker and his assistant including myself spent another hour with the magnetic tool and could not find the nails.”

Schedule

“When I talked to the sales rep. he indicated the job would probably take on his estimate about four days. Due to the worker being on site alone, it progressed to 10.5 days on site, and the job is still not complete. Myself having to take unpaid time off work has been upsetting to me.”
