Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Morriston

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Morriston often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Morriston may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

A quality metal roof in Morriston typically lasts at least 50–75+ years, while conventional asphalt shingles usually need replacing much sooner (often 15–25 years). Morriston sits in southern Ontario’s humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters, regular freeze–thaw cycles and notable snow loads, plus spring/fall rainfall and warm, UV‑intense summers—conditions that accelerate asphalt wear but play to metal’s strengths of snow‑shedding, corrosion resistance and lower maintenance. Occasional hail and strong winds can damage thin roofing materials, so homeowners often choose heavier‑gauge metal for durability and storm resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminium and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty, making them a common choice in this area for long‑term protection against snow loads, freeze–thaw cycling and summer UV exposure.
Expect a metal roof in Morriston to cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but not all metal systems are the same. Final price depends on roof area, slope, complexity (valleys, penetrations, skylights), tear‑off and disposal, flashing, and local labour rates. Morriston’s cold, snowy winters and frequent freeze–thaw cycles can increase snow‑load and ice‑dam protection requirements, which raises material and installation standards. Many homeowners therefore compare lifetime value — durability, lower maintenance, and reduced future repair or replacement costs — rather than just initial price. Durable metal systems often pay back higher upfront costs through fewer repairs and longer service life. Interlock Metal Roofing positions its offerings for long‑term ownership value rather than as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Short answer for a Morriston homeowner: metal roofing can be worth the higher upfront cost if you prioritise durability and long‑term protection; homeowners who prioritise those qualities often choose metal roofing. Lifespan: Metal Roofing lasts over 50 years; asphalt shingles typically last about 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs less routine care (occasional fastener checks/sealant), asphalt needs more repairs, moss/granule management and periodic replacement. Durability: metal better resists wind, hail and heavy snow and sheds snowpack that builds in Morriston’s winters; asphalt is more vulnerable to freeze–thaw damage and ice‑damming. Morriston has cold winters with notable snowfall and frequent freeze–thaw cycles. Long‑term value: metal’s higher initial cost is offset by longer life, lower replacement frequency and resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal to homeowners seeking lasting performance and strong architectural curb appeal.
No — that’s a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs in Morriston, ON, fitted over solid decking with proper underlayment and insulation do not sound like barn roofs. Roof assembly, attic cavity and insulation all dampen rainfall noise; in fact, winter snowpacks often mute sounds, while freeze–thaw cycles and heavy spring rains or occasional hail are the real local concerns for durability rather than noise. Poor installation (missing battens, thin underlay, or loose fasteners) will make any roof noisier. Properly installed residential metal roofs typically sound very similar to shingles or tiles. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and installed as complete residential roofing systems designed to address these local weather stresses and acoustic performance.
Yes — a metal roof can be energy efficient in Morriston. Metal roofing reflects sunlight, lowering cooling loads in summer, and with light‑coloured or reflective coatings can improve that effect. But actual energy savings depend on the whole roof assembly: underlayments, air barriers, insulation levels and proper attic ventilation control heat flow year‑round. In Morriston’s cold, snowy winters with regular freeze–thaw cycles and measurable snow loads, good insulation and ventilation prevent heat loss and ice dams. Summers are warm and humid, so reflectivity and ventilation reduce air‑conditioning demand. Homeowners consider energy efficiency to lower bills, improve comfort and protect roof investment. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
Morriston sees cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation, while spring and summer bring occasional hail and strong wind storms—conditions that affect roof loading, corrosion risk and shingle fragmentation. Metal roofing performs well in wind, hail and heavy weather when the system is specified and installed correctly: its interlocking panels shed snow, resist uplift in high winds, and can tolerate impact better than many shingles. Performance still depends on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability (gauge, coating and profile). Homeowners in Morriston weigh weather resilience—snow‑load capacity, freeze–thaw durability and hail resistance—alongside cost and appearance when choosing materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, making them a strong option for local severe‑weather resilience.
Metal roofing performance depends on the metal: steels, copper and aluminium behave differently and some alloys or coatings are far more corrosion‑resistant. In Morriston, significant winter snow accumulation and frequent freeze–thaw and freezing‑rain events increase standing moisture and corrosion risk, so material choice matters for longevity and maintenance. Aluminium performs especially well in wet conditions because it forms a stable protective oxide and won’t rust like iron‑based metals. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance when comparing roofs to reduce long‑term repairs, staining and leaks. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
As a Morriston homeowner comparing materials: metal roofing is generally considered low maintenance and sheds snow better than many shingles, but no roof is completely maintenance‑free. In Morriston’s climate—significant winter snow and freeze–thaw cycles plus seasonal storms—periodic inspections help catch ice‑dam risks, loose fasteners or sealant failures. Check and clear debris, keep gutters flowing, and inspect flashing and penetrations after storms. Weather events or seasonal debris can accelerate wear, yet metal roofs resist rot, moss and many storm impacts, making them a durable, low‑maintenance choice here if you maintain drainage and repair damage promptly.
Can metal roofing increase home value in Morriston, ON? Yes. Morriston’s snowy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and occasional summer hail and wind storms make durable, low‑maintenance roofs attractive to buyers. Buyers value longevity and minimal upkeep, premium materials boost curb appeal, and a long lifespan improves buyer confidence when comparing roofs. Architectural style matters — a metal roof that mimics slate, tile or cedar suits higher‑end neighbourhoods better than a mismatched modern seam. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing‑seam profiles in heavy‑gauge aluminium or solid copper, combining durability with traditional looks to help justify a higher asking price. Lower lifetime maintenance costs and strong warranties often sway buyers and can increase resale value in this region.
Yes—Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels when fitted with Interlock’s custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. or Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. In Morriston, cold winters bring significant snowfall and frequent freeze–thaw cycles that promote ice dams and extra snow loads, so choose long‑lasting materials and ensure mounting allows for snow shedding and minimal roof penetration where possible. Roof lifespan matters before adding panels—plan solar when replacing a roof. That longevity reduces lifecycle costs and disruption from re‑roofing under panels. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and designed to support dedicated mounting solutions, making them a strong choice here.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

April 15, 2026

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

April 14, 2026

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof & Snow Guards Review — Owen Sound, ON (Installed 2017)

April 13, 2026

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Burnaby, BC Metal Roofing (Installed 2024)

April 13, 2026

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

April 12, 2026

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

Willowbrook, IL Metal Roof Review — Interlock Roofing (Installed 2016)

April 11, 2026

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
