Installation Crew

★★★★★ Strongly agree
“Moses and David were simply terrific. I already knew them from the job they had done for my brother and me a few years earlier, in 2019 at 29 & 31 Gwynne Ave. That's why I insisted on the same installers this time. It had to be Moses and no one else. That way I knew I could relax and rest assured nothing would go wrong, no corners would be cut, a great job would result.”

Professional Completion

★★★★★ Strongly agree
“The wonderful Moses is a perfectionist who takes old fashioned pride in a job well done. I believe he did the job to the best of his ability and aimed to achieve the same high standard he would aim for at his own home. That's quite rare these days.”

Schedule

☆☆☆☆ Strongly disagree
“Well, no, not really. I believe the job could have been completed in November 2021 if appropriate consideration had been given to the emergency nature of the job (roof actively leaking) and my preferred installer, Moses, who was then available. Instead Moses was sent on other (non-leaking) jobs for a month before he left the country. This meant I had to wait for him until May 2022. However, the company did indeed send over the very nice & capable Steve in December to temporarily waterproof the roof for the winter and until Moses returned the next spring. So, ultimately it turned out well.”

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Toronto

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Toronto often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Toronto may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Toronto, ON?

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years depending on quality and maintenance. Toronto’s winters are cold and snowy with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and substantial snow loads, and the region is seeing increased heavy precipitation and extreme storms — all factors that stress roofing materials and flashings in different ways. Metal resists rot, shedding snow and ice more readily and tolerating freeze–thaw movement, while also standing up better to wind and hail than many asphalt products. Homeowners in Toronto often choose durable metal systems for longevity, lower lifecycle costs, and improved performance in wet, freeze–thaw and storm-prone conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminium and come with a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed to provide long‑term protection in this climate.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Toronto, ON?

Metal roofs in Toronto generally cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but total cost depends on roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys, skylights), tear‑off and flashing work, and local labour rates. Toronto’s climate — cold, snowy winters with significant freeze–thaw cycles and periodic heavy precipitation — increases the value of durable, corrosion‑resistant materials because they resist snow loads and freeze‑thaw damage better than many alternatives. Local construction factors (access, permits, waste disposal, contractor availability) also affect final price. Many homeowners compare options on lifetime value rather than initial price: a higher upfront cost for a long‑lasting metal system can lower future repair and replacement expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasises long‑term ownership value and performance, not being the lowest‑cost headline option.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Toronto home?

Short answer: often yes — if you prioritise long life and low upkeep. Lifespan: Metal roofing lasts over 50 years; asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years. Maintenance: Metal needs less routine care (occasional inspections, fastener checks); asphalt needs more frequent patching, re-nailing and eventual replacement. Durability: Metal resists wind, heavy snow loads and UV better; asphalt can lose granules, crack in freeze–thaw cycles and suffer ice-dam related damage. Long‑term value: Higher upfront cost for metal but lower lifetime cost per year due to longevity, fewer repairs and possible energy savings. Local weather notes: Toronto sees frequent freeze–thaw cycles that accelerate shingle wear and can promote ice dams, and is trending toward wetter, more intense storms—both favour more durable materials over time. Homeowners who prioritise durability and long‑term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to those buyers for proven long‑term performance and strong architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Toronto?

This is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. During rain in Toronto they are not noticeably louder than asphalt shingle or tile when fitted with proper underlayment, insulation and an attic airspace. Local factors—heavy snow loads, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and lake‑effect precipitation—affect roof assemblies and can influence perceived sound transmission. Insulation, attic space and overall roof assembly largely control noise, and installation quality matters. Properly installed residential metal roofs typically sound similar to other materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Toronto?

Yes — metal roofing can be energy efficient in Toronto. Metal panels reflect sunlight, lowering summer heat gain, but true savings depend on the whole roof assembly: underlayment, insulation R‑value and continuous air‑sealing, plus proper ventilation to control heat flow and moisture. Toronto’s frequent freeze–thaw cycles and heavy winter snow loads can affect thermal performance and durability, so insulation and roof details matter for winter heat loss and ice‑dam prevention. Compared with conventional asphalt shingles, a high‑reflectance metal roof combined with adequate insulation and ventilation can lower cooling loads in warm months and limit winter heat loss, improving year‑round efficiency and lifespan. Homeowners prioritise energy efficiency to cut heating/cooling bills, boost comfort and future‑proof value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.

How does metal roofing in Toronto, ON withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

In Toronto, heavy winter snow and frequent freeze–thaw cycles that create ice dams, plus occasional summer thunderstorms with hail and strong winds, are the main local stresses on roofs. Metal roofing sheds snow, tolerates thermal cycling and—when using impact‑rated panels and proper fastenings—performs well in hail and high winds; actual performance depends on system design, installation quality and the gauge/finish of the metal. Homeowners weigh weather resilience because poor design or installation, not just material, causes leaks or failure during heavy storms. Ontario code and local practice also expect roofs to meet snow‑load requirements (about 1.5 kPa), which influences roof slope and attachment choices. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, so compare warranties, impact ratings and certified wind uplift values when choosing between materials.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Toronto's wet climate?

Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing: In Toronto, freeze–thaw cycles and lake‑effect moisture (heavy snow and higher humidity) accelerate corrosion and stress roofing materials. Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal: steel, copper, zinc and aluminum behave differently—some oxidise, others form protective films. Materials like aluminum and properly coated steels resist corrosion better; aluminum performs particularly well in wet or lakeside environments because it forms a stable oxide layer. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance to avoid leaks, extra maintenance and shortened roof life under Toronto’s snow and freeze‑thaw conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Toronto?

As a homeowner in Toronto comparing materials, metal roofing is a durable, low‑maintenance choice: it sheds snow, resists moisture and tolerates freeze–thaw cycles better than many alternatives. Toronto’s frequent freeze–thaw cycles and Lake Ontario‑influenced snow and moisture increase stress on flashings and valleys, so periodic checks matter. No roof is maintenance‑free—inspect seasonally (spring/fall) and after storms. Remove debris, keep gutters clear, check flashing and roof penetrations, and repair paint/fasteners or sealants as needed. Overall, metal offers long life and lower upkeep compared with shingles, but routine inspection and timely repairs will protect performance in Toronto’s climate.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Toronto?

As a Toronto homeowner comparing roofing materials, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofs — important here because Toronto’s winter snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles promote ice dams and material fatigue, which shorter‑lived roofing types struggle with. Premium roofing improves curb appeal and a long lifespan boosts buyer confidence. Architectural style matters by neighbourhood, so choose a profile that fits local character. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles such as slate, cedar shingle, mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy gauge aluminium and solid copper. They also reduce ongoing maintenance costs, which buyers increasingly factor into offers — and proven systems that resist local freeze–thaw and snow stresses can justify a higher asking price.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Toronto?

Q: Can solar panels be installed on Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Toronto? A: Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are solar-compatible and Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd provides custom solar brackets to mount PV arrays. In Toronto, heavy snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles mean a durable, long‑lasting roof is essential—choose materials that will outlive the PV system to avoid panel removal for mid‑life re‑roofing. Roof lifespan matters: homeowners should plan for solar when replacing a roof, since long‑lasting materials are often preferred and Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and simplify future upgrades.
