And, no, we don't hear "pitter patter" when it rains!

5/5

Addressed to: Popular Mechanics

I have read your recent issue which included a section about roofing materials. I was surprised your excellent publication did not include information about aluminum metal roofs in that section. We recently had one installed and are quite pleased with the appearance. Our roof was installed by Interlock Industries, based in Vancouver. Their shingles come in many colors and somewhat resemble the look of an asphalt shingle roof.

However, unlike asphalt shingle and other roofing types, our roof has a lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable factory warranty. It is fireproof, rot proof, energy efficient and can withstand winds in excess of 100mph.
The cost per square foot is more expensive than asphalt shingle but not much more expensive than a 30 year warranted asphalt roof.

Much has been written concerning the rapid deterioration of today’s asphalt roofs and I would suspect your readers would be interested in learning more. And, no, we don’t hear “pitter patter” when it rains!

First of all, we are extremely pleased with your product. We would be happy to recommend it as an excellent product.

Next, I would like to commend you on your choice of an installer for our new roof. I do not think you could have chosen a better installer.

From the very first day on the job, it was obvious that Mr. Ritter was a highly competent tradesperson. He pointed out many errors that had been made on the original roofing system. In addition he advised us on the necessary corrective measures. In my estimation he went beyond the call of duty to perform an excellent job.

I feel you company should be very pleased to have a craftsman with such a good sense of responsibility, desire and ability to do an excellent job.

Once again, we are extremely pleased with your product and the workmanship of Mr. Ritter.

Trusted Roof Replacement in Shawnigan Lake, BC After 15 Years of Issues Fixed by Interlock Metal Roofing

From Rot to Resilience: A Roofing Redemption Story in Shawnigan Lake, BC

Shawnigan Lake is the kind of place that makes you exhale. Tucked in the southern part of Vancouver Island, just a scenic 30-minute drive from Victoria, it’s known for its still water, artistic soul, and cedar-scented air. Locals here don’t just live on the land—they live with it, which is precisely why your roof matters.

Because in Shawnigan Lake, it rains. It snows. It blows.

And roofs? They don’t just cover a house. They protect a lifestyle.

The Review That Says It All

Let’s pause on that first line: “Interlock was challenged by the roof on our home…”

Not every job is simple, but real professionals don’t walk away when it gets complicated. They lean in, look deeper, find the rot under the surface, and fix what others ignore.

That’s what Glen and Brenda experienced. Not a roofing crew. A problem-solving team.

When the Old Roof Fails, the Right Roof Lasts

Someone else installed their roof fifteen years ago. Fifteen years was all it took to reveal how cutting corners plays out in the real world: wood rot, hidden damage, and silent stress. But this time, Glen and Brenda didn’t choose another short-term fix.

They chose permanence.

The Tudor Brown Interlock Standing Seam Metal Roofing System is more than a product—it’s a long-term decision made by people who’ve been through enough to know what matters:

  • A lifetime warranty that doesn’t blink at a storm.
  • A 4-way interlocking design that laughs in the face of coastal wind.
  • Energy efficiency that helps them live smarter.
  • Solar-ready potential for today or tomorrow.

This wasn’t just a new roof. It was a turning point.

Built for Shawnigan. Built to Stay.

A stone’s throw from the mountains and a breeze away from the Pacific, Shawnigan Lake’s weather can swing from sunny serenity to sideways rain. This is a roofing country. The place where material, design, and craftsmanship can’t just look good—they have to endure.

Glen and Brenda’s home is now a quiet example of that durability. The fresh, crisp lines of the standing seam profile complement the natural tones of Vancouver Island. But it’s not just about looks—it’s about peace of mind that doesn’t need a warranty claim, knowing that their home is well-protected against weather conditions.

A Word to the Wise (and Weather-Worn)

You don’t need to wait for a roof to fail to make a better choice.

Glen and Brenda’s story is more common than you think. But the happy ending? That’s earned—by asking better questions, choosing the right team, and expecting more from a roof than just shingles and nails.

We’re proud they chose us. And we’re pleased to stand by that choice for a lifetime.

Your home deserves a roof that won’t fail you—no matter the storm.
In Shawnigan Lake, that roof is Interlock, a company with deep roots in the local community and a profound understanding of this area’s unique roofing challenges.

Top 10 Roofing FAQs for Shawnigan Lake, BC Homeowners

Shawnigan Lake offers the perfect blend of recreational paradise and year-round living in the heart of the Cowichan Valley. From lakefront properties with stunning water views to forested homes tucked among the Douglas firs, your roof faces the unique challenges of Vancouver Island’s Pacific Northwest climate. With our community’s population doubling during summer months and the constant moisture from our 1,209mm annual rainfall, choosing the right roofing solution is crucial for protecting your investment in this coveted lakeside community.

What roofing materials perform best against Pacific Northwest rainfall in Shawnigan Lake?

Shawnigan Lake receives approximately 1,209mm (47.6 inches) of rainfall annually—with November alone bringing 185mm—so moisture resistance is your roof’s most critical requirement. The precipitation variance between July (25mm) and November (185mm) creates extreme wet-dry cycles that stress traditional roofing materials.
Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. specializes in premium metal roofing systems engineered for Vancouver Island’s challenging climate.

Our four-way interlocking design creates an impenetrable barrier against moisture penetration, while the seamless installation eliminates the vulnerable points where traditional shingles fail. Unlike asphalt shingles that absorb moisture and deteriorate in our humid conditions, Interlock’s metal roofing sheds water wholly and instantly.

While traditional to the Cowichan Valley, Cedar shingles require extensive maintenance in our 88% winter humidity and become breeding grounds for moss and algae. Asphalt shingles typically deteriorate significantly within 10-15 years due to our extreme moisture exposure. Interlock’s lifetime warranty system means you’ll never re-roof again—crucial for lakefront properties where access and timing can be challenging during our extended wet seasons.

We design our metal roofing systems to withstand the Pacific Northwest’s dramatic temperature swings. Whether facing summer highs above 30°C or rare winter freezes, our roofs expand and contract smoothly—unlike brittle materials that crack under thermal stress. This resilience keeps your roof intact and performing reliably, no matter the weather.

Solar energy is becoming increasingly popular among Shawnigan Lake homeowners seeking energy independence and reduced environmental impact. However, traditional asphalt roofing creates a significant obstacle to solar investment—these roofs typically require replacement every 15-20 years. In the Pacific Northwest’s harsh conditions, some need re-roofing in as little as 10 years.

The hidden cost of solar on asphalt roofing is devastating: when your roof needs replacement, all solar panels must be professionally removed, stored, and reinstalled on the new roof. This process can cost $5,000-$15,000 or more, forcing you to pay for solar installation twice during the system’s 25-30-year lifespan. Many homeowners discover this expensive reality only when their roof begins failing under solar equipment’s weight and mounting stress.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. eliminates this costly cycle. Our lifetime warranty system means you’ll never need to re-roof again, making it the perfect one-and-done solution for solar installations. When you choose Interlock, your solar panels are installed once and stay installed for their entire operational life, maximizing your return on investment.

Beyond avoiding re-roofing costs, Interlock’s metal surface provides superior structural support for solar installations compared to asphalt shingles that can crack or deteriorate under mounting hardware. Our interlocking design distributes weight evenly while the metal surface creates optimal thermal conditions for solar panel efficiency. This combination delivers maximum energy generation and long-term reliability for Shawnigan Lake’s sunny summer months when solar production peaks.

The math is simple: Interlock plus solar equals a permanent energy solution that protects both investments for decades to come.

Shawnigan Lake’s tourism-driven economy and Pacific Northwest weather patterns create unique timing considerations for roofing projects. With our population doubling during summer months as visitors from Victoria, Vancouver, and beyond enjoy lakefront recreation, contractor availability becomes premium from June through September.

The optimal window for roofing installation is late spring (May-June) after the heaviest rainfall ends but before peak recreation season impacts the community. July offers the driest conditions, with only 4.6 rainy days and 25mm of precipitation, but this coincides with maximum tourist activity and contractor demand from seasonal property owners preparing vacation rentals.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. recommends scheduling consultations for late spring or early fall installation in March-April. Our efficient installation process means weather windows are less critical than with traditional materials—metal roofing can be installed in light rain conditions that would halt shingle installation. This flexibility allows us to work around the unpredictable weather conditions in Shawnigan Lake, ensuring a smooth and timely installation process.

Fall installation (September-October) offers excellent conditions before winter rains return, though this coincides with property owners rushing to complete maintenance before the wet season. You can address winter emergencies as they arise, but planning guarantees access to Interlock’s specialized installation teams—experts in navigating the unique challenges of lakefront and forested properties.

The BC Building Code 2024 establishes minimum requirements for building safety, health, accessibility, fire and structural protection, and energy and water efficiency throughout British Columbia. As part of the Cowichan Valley Regional District, Shawnigan Lake follows provincial standards with some local considerations for our unique environment.

Wind resistance requirements consider Vancouver Island’s exposure to Pacific storm systems, particularly winter storms from the Pacific that can bring sustained winds exceeding 80 km/h with higher gusts. Snow loads, while generally lighter than inland BC locations, must account for potential accumulation during rare, severe weather events.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. ensures all installations exceed BC Building Code requirements. Our interlocking design provides superior wind resistance compared to standard installations, while the continuous barrier eliminates uplift vulnerability common with traditional shingle systems. Our lifetime warranty includes compliance guarantees, giving you the peace of mind that your investment meets all current and anticipated future code requirements and is secure against the unique challenges of Shawnigan Lake’s climate.

Energy efficiency requirements under Climate Zone 4 standards favor metal roofing systems for their superior thermal performance and compatibility with advanced insulation systems. Interlock’s installations contribute to overall building envelope performance, potentially qualifying for energy efficiency incentives and reducing heating costs during our mild but damp winters. Choosing Interlock’s metal roofing can save you money on heating costs and reduce your home’s environmental impact.

Selecting a roofing contractor for your Shawnigan Lake property requires an understanding of Pacific Northwest climate expertise and local community needs. With seasonal population fluctuations and challenging access to some lakefront and forested properties, experience in our specific conditions is crucial.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. brings unparalleled expertise to the unique roofing challenges of Vancouver Island. As the premier metal roofing contractor serving the Cowichan Valley from Victoria to Duncan and beyond, we deeply understand the specific requirements of Shawnigan Lake properties. Our successful regional projects demonstrate our proven performance in year-round and seasonal residences, giving you the confidence that we can meet your unique roofing needs.

Key qualifications include WorkSafeBC compliance, proper licensing and insurance, and specific experience with moisture management in Pacific Northwest conditions. Request references from recent Cowichan Valley projects, particularly properties similar to yours, regarding exposure and access challenges. Verify the contractor’s understanding of lakefront considerations, environmental sensitivities, and coordination with community events and tourism seasons.

Interlock’s advantage lies in our lifetime warranty system and never-need-to-re-roof promise. While other contractors offer products with limited warranties, our comprehensive coverage protects your investment indefinitely. Our local presence ensures ongoing support, while our specialized installation teams understand the intricacies of working in the Shawnigan Lake environment—from protecting landscaping during installation to coordinating with seasonal access limitations.

Lakefront properties in Shawnigan Lake face unique insurance considerations related to location and the high property values common in this desirable recreational area. Insurance providers increasingly scrutinize roofing materials and maintenance history when setting premiums and coverage terms for properties in moisture-prone Pacific Northwest locations.
Many insurers now offer premium discounts for superior roofing materials demonstrating long-term performance and low maintenance requirements. Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s lifetime warranty system and proven performance record can qualify properties for reduced premiums, as insurers recognize the lower claim probability associated with premium roofing systems.

Documentation becomes crucial for lakefront properties where storm damage claims are more common due to exposure and the potential for falling trees during Pacific storms. Interlock’s comprehensive installation documentation and warranty coverage provide the detailed records insurers require for efficient claim processing. Our metal roofing systems’ superior storm resistance often prevents damage that would affect traditional roofing materials.

For seasonal properties, demonstrating proactive maintenance and premium materials is essential for maintaining coverage. Interlock’s maintenance-free performance eliminates the documentation burden of regular roof treatments and repairs required with traditional materials. This documentation advantage becomes particularly valuable for properties vacant during winter months when immediate damage response isn’t possible.

Shawnigan Lake’s population typically doubles during summer as the area serves as a recreational destination for Vancouver Island residents and visitors from Victoria, Vancouver, and beyond. This seasonal fluctuation creates unique considerations for roofing decisions, particularly investment properties and vacation homes.

Seasonal property owners need roofing systems that perform reliably without constant oversight. Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s maintenance-free performance is ideal for properties that may be vacant for extended periods. While traditional roofing materials require regular inspections and maintenance—particularly challenging for absentee owners—Interlock systems provide peace of mind through all seasons.

The summer recreation focus means timing is crucial for renovation projects. Roofing work during peak season (July-August) can impact rental income and property enjoyment. Interlock’s efficient installation process minimizes disruption, but scheduling during shoulder seasons protects peak revenue opportunities while ensuring completion before winter weather.

Property management considerations also favour low-maintenance roofing solutions. Vacation rental properties need roofing that maintains curb appeal without constant intervention. Interlock’s fresh appearance and superior performance enhance property values and guest satisfaction while eliminating the maintenance calls that complicate property management for absentee owners.

Investment property owners particularly benefit from Interlock’s never-re-roof promise, as it eliminates major capital expenditures throughout the ownership period while providing a valuable selling feature for future transactions.

The roofing costs in Shawnigan Lake reflect the community’s premium nature and the specialized requirements of Pacific Northwest installation conditions. Lakefront properties, which can range into seven figures, justify premium roofing investments that protect and enhance these valuable assets.

While initial costs for metal roofing systems are higher than basic asphalt installations, Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s lifetime value proposition transforms the cost equation. When you factor in the 2-3 re-roofing cycles typically required over 30-50 years with traditional materials, plus ongoing maintenance costs for moss removal, repairs, and energy inefficiency, Interlock’s one-time investment provides superior long-term value.

Seasonal property considerations affect pricing strategies. Summer installation may command premium rates during peak tourism season due to contractor demand and community disruption concerns. Planning installation during shoulder seasons provides cost advantages while ensuring project completion before weather constraints.

Access challenges and environmental protection requirements can affect installation costs for lakefront properties. Interlock’s efficient installation process minimizes these factors, and our specialized crews understand the unique requirements of working in sensitive lakefront environments. Our lifetime warranty eliminates future cost uncertainty, particularly valuable for long-term property planning and estate considerations.

Shawnigan Lake’s mild but humid climate creates unique energy efficiency considerations. Winter temperatures rarely freeze (averaging 2°C in January), but high humidity levels require effective moisture management and thermal performance to maintain comfort and prevent condensation issues.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s systems provide superior energy performance through multiple mechanisms. Metal roofing’s reflective properties reduce summer cooling loads when temperatures exceed 30°C, while the thermal mass and air circulation capabilities moderate temperature swings. The seamless installation eliminates thermal bridging that is familiar to traditional roofing systems.

Pacific Northwest homes face humidity control and ventilation challenges, which are particularly important for lakefront properties exposed to additional moisture sources. Interlock’s systems integrate seamlessly with advanced ventilation strategies, promoting air circulation that prevents the condensation issues common in our humid environment.

Solar compatibility is increasingly important as energy costs rise and environmental consciousness grows. Interlock Metal Roofing systems provide ideal platforms for solar panel installation, with the structural integrity and longevity to support renewable energy systems throughout their operational life. The combination of metal roofing and solar can achieve net-zero energy performance—particularly valuable for properties with high seasonal occupancy variations.

Energy efficiency improvements enhance comfort and property values for properties with lake views and premium orientations while reducing operational costs for year-round and seasonal residents.

Pacific Northwest weather patterns bring periodic storm systems that can cause power outages, fallen trees, and emergencies requiring preparation. Shawnigan Lake’s forested setting and lakefront exposure create specific vulnerability patterns during winter storms.

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s systems provide superior storm resistance, but emergency preparedness extends beyond roofing materials. Establish relationships with local contractors who understand Shawnigan Lake’s access challenges and community dynamics. Our emergency response capabilities include prioritized service for existing customers and coordination with local utilities and emergency services.

Seasonal property owners face additional challenges during winter storms when properties may be unoccupied. Interlock’s maintenance-free performance minimizes storm-related roof failures, but properties should have emergency contact procedures and local monitoring arrangements. Our roofing systems’ superior performance often prevents emergencies that affect traditional roofing materials.

Prepare for extended power outages that can affect well water systems and heating in homes with electric heat pumps. Understand your property’s vulnerabilities and have action plans for various scenarios. Investing in premium roofing that won’t fail during storms provides the foundation for overall emergency preparedness.

Community resources include the Shawnigan Improvement District for infrastructure coordination and local emergency services familiar with seasonal population variations. For lakefront properties, consider marine evacuation routes and communication systems that function during land-based infrastructure outages.

Bottom Line for Shawnigan Lake Homeowners:

Your roof is your primary defence against the Pacific Northwest’s relentless moisture and your gateway to enjoying this recreational paradise year-round. Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.’s lifetime warranty system, engineered specifically for Vancouver Island conditions, protects your investment while eliminating the ongoing maintenance burden that defines traditional roofing in our climate. Whether watching the sunrise over the lake from your deck or weathering a November deluge, choosing Interlock means choosing the last roof you’ll ever need—keeping you comfortable, secure, and moss-free for life in this exceptional Cowichan Valley community.

The Roof That Changed Everything in Nanaimo

The Last Roof This Homeowner Will Ever Need

A Complete Transformation Story from Harbour City
Nanaimo, British Columbia • Hunter Green Interlock Slate with Snow Guards

“When I decided I was gonna get a new roof, I knew it was going to be a metal roof.” This homeowner’s journey from decision to dream roof is exactly what happens when someone stops settling for temporary fixes.
Here’s something most people don’t realize about living 55 kilometres across the Strait of Georgia from Vancouver. You get the worst of both worlds: coastal humidity that sneaks up from the Salish Sea and the kind of weather that changes its mind three times before lunch.

Nanaimo sits at this fascinating intersection where Mediterranean summers meet wet Pacific winters. One day, you’re looking across calm waters toward the Coast Mountains; the next, you’re dealing with the kind of precipitation that makes you question every roofing decision you’ve ever made.

The Reality of Nanaimo Weather: This beautiful harbour city experiences wet winters, with snow accumulation reaching up to 210mm in January, while summers stay surprisingly dry. Heavy snowfall does occasionally occur during winter, with a record daily total of 74 centimetres on 12 February 1975. Your roof needs to handle it all.
But here’s what this homeowner understood that most people miss entirely. The roof isn’t just about keeping rain out. It’s about permanence in a place where you’re surrounded by natural beauty that deserves a home worthy of the setting.

Why This Is The Last Roof They’ll Ever Need

  • Lifetime Warranty Protection
Not 25 years. Not 50 years. Lifetime. Because some decisions should only be made once.

  • Our 4-Way Interlocking Design is engineered to withstand whatever the Strait of Georgia decides to throw at it. This design not only ensures the roof’s durability but also enhances its weather resistance, making it a reliable choice for Nanaimo’s unpredictable climate.

  • Our metal roof system is designed for energy efficiency, reducing heating costs during those long, damp Nanaimo winters. This feature not only provides comfort but also saves you money in the long run, making it a smart investment for your home.

  • Snow Load Management: Those snow guards aren’t just decorative—they’re protecting people and property below.

The team approach matters too—Randal at the outdoor show. Todd is coordinating the timeline. Vlad is handling the weekend start and answering questions. Britt is making administration seamless. When you’re investing in permanence, you want to work with people who understand that this isn’t just another job—it’s someone’s home for the next several decades. The team at Interlock Metal Roofing understands the homeowner’s needs and is committed to delivering a solution that exceeds expectations.

However, what stands out in this review is that the homeowner took a picture of the snow guard. Think about that for a moment. This isn’t someone settling for “good enough.” This is someone so pleased with the attention to detail that they’re documenting it.

That’s what happens when you stop thinking about roofing as a necessary evil and start thinking about it as the foundation of comfort, security, and pride in your home, especially in a place like Nanaimo, where you’re the gateway to Vancouver Island’s northern destinations , and every view deserves a roof worthy of the setting.

The Interlock Metal Roofing System isn’t just about weather protection, although it excels in this area. It’s about making one decision that eliminates an entire category of future worry. One investment that turns your home into exactly what you want it to be: a place where the roof is never the problem, only the solution.

Top 10 Roofing FAQs for Nanaimo BC Homeowners

Can Metal Roofing Handle Nanaimo’s Heavy Snow Loads?

Yes — and better than any conventional system. Nanaimo sees up to 210mm of snow in January, with historical storms dumping 74cm in a single day. Asphalt shingles struggle under snow load and can lead to ice dams that cause major damage. The Interlock Metal Roofing System uses a 4-way interlocking design to evenly distribute snow loads and resist shifting. Built-in snow guards manage snow slides safely — no retrofits needed, no surprises.
Not at all. In fact, it’s often quieter. Thanks to solid roof decking, insulation, and modern install techniques, metal roofing systems like Interlock are quieter than most people expect. Many of our customers say they hear less noise than with old asphalt shingles — even during Nanaimo’s November rainfall, which averages 187mm.
Exceptionally well. Living just across the Strait of Georgia means exposure to unpredictable coastal winds. Interlock’s 4-way locking system creates a single, unified roof surface — it can’t be lifted like individual shingles. It’s tested to exceed local wind load requirements and has held firm during major storms where conventional roofs failed.

It’s the last roof you’ll ever need.
While asphalt needs replacing every 15–20 years, Interlock roofs come with a lifetime warranty. We use materials designed to resist UV rays, salt spray, and thermal stress. After 30+ years of installing roofs across Vancouver Island, many still look like they were installed yesterday.

Yes.
Interlock roofs reflect solar heat in the summer, helps keeping homes cooler, and help retain warmth in the winter. Some homeowners in Nanaimo have seen a 15–25% reduction in energy costs, which often offsets the initial investment.

Absolutely — metal roofing is ideal for solar.
Interlock roofs work seamlessly with modern clamp-on solar mounting systems. There’s no need to drill through the roof, so there’s no risk of leaks. With BC solar incentives and long summer daylight hours, it’s a smart pairing.

Metal offers top-tier fire protection. With wildfires becoming more common in BC, metal roofing’s non-combustible properties matter. Interlock roofs resist ember intrusion and offer Class A fire ratings — protecting your home from above and within.

Yes — with the right team.
Waiting for a dry week in Nanaimo? Good luck. Our experienced crews use weather-safe techniques and install in stages to keep your home protected throughout the process. We’re trained for coastal BC’s unpredictable conditions.

More than worth it.
Yes, Interlock costs more upfront than asphalt. But you avoid the cost (and mess) of re-roofing every 15–20 years. Add in lower energy bills, possible insurance discounts, and resale value — and the math becomes obvious.

We’re not part-time roofers. This is what we do.
With 40+ years of experience across Vancouver Island, we understand local codes, coastal climate demands, and what homeowners actually need. Our factory-trained crews, full licensing, and rock-solid warranty make Interlock the trusted metal roofing choice in Nanaimo and beyond.

Vlad’s crew didn’t just swing hammers. They listened. They respected the clock. They worked around Mark’s routine so well that the only thing he noticed was a beautiful new roof where the old one used to be.

That kind of service? It’s not a footnote. It’s the whole plot.

Because while many contractors focus on the job, Interlock focuses on the homeowner.

Why Nanaimo Residents Choose Interlock

Nanaimo isn’t just a stop between Victoria and Tofino. It’s a city with soul.

A Roof That Fits Your Life—Not the Other Way Around

Mark’s story isn’t flashy. And that’s exactly why it works.

It’s the story of a homeowner who didn’t have to rearrange his life for a big project. A roof that matched his vision. A crew that respected his time.

It’s the story of a roof done right, done fast, and done for life.

That’s Interlock.

In a quiet corner of North Nanaimo, where forested hills roll toward the shimmering waters of Departure Bay, one home now stands with new resolve.

Here, along the edge of Vancouver Island’s coastal charm—just 3 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean and minutes from Neck Point Park and Pipers Lagoon—Mr. and Mrs. K.J. Gourlay discovered a roof and a transformation.

The view? Sea breezes through arbutus trees. The sound? Eagles overhead and waves not far off. The feeling? That unmistakable blend of safety and style.

Craftsmanship Against All Odds

What’s a roof without the hands that build it?

Enter Larry Koster—installer, artisan, and weather warrior. Through hail, sleet, and wind, Larry showed up and showed out. The Gourlays noticed, and so do we. It’s not just about doing a job; it’s about doing it right, even when the clouds roll in.

North Nanaimo: Where Nature and Neighbourhoods Coexist

Nestled in a friendly, tree-lined community, the Gourlay residence is moments from Woodgrove Centre, just north of Long Lake, and a short drive to Mount Benson’s mountain trails. With the ocean to the east and ancient forest trails to the west, this home exists at the intersection of beauty and resilience.

And that’s precisely where Interlock belongs.

A Roof. A Home. A Testament.

In Nanaimo—a city known for its bathtub races, Nanaimo bars, and the kind of small-town heart that remembers your name—the Gourlays’ new roof doesn’t just sit on top of their house. It’s a crown. A capstone. A symbol of craftsmanship done right.

New roof installed by Interlock and very pleased with the professionalism and aesthetics

5/5

I have a new roof installed by Interlock and very pleased with the professionalism and aesthetics. My builder roof lasted 12 years and I needed something more durable. I spent months talking to steel roof installers and the thing that bothered me most, is whether the company will be around long enough to support warranty issues. The coatings were also prone to fading and I was looking for a worry free product. My research led me to select aluminum roofing with PVDF coating for durability and resistance to Color fade. The lifetime transferable warranty and fact that Interlock has been in business for over 40 years led me to contact the company. Interlock staff are courteous and Bruce gave a very fair price with a no pressure quote. My roof has some features that could affect aesthetics and Bruce arranged for special considerations at those locations. The installers were very courteous, and took the time necessary to do a great installation. They respected my views as a home owner and provided regular updates on progress and solutions. The installers cleaned up debris at the end of each day and coordinated with my neighbours to minimize impact from the roofing job. When rain was in the forecast the crew worked tirelessly to complete roofing sections that would be vulnerable to rainfall. Overall I am pleased with everyone’s efforts and now hope the roof will be durable for many years.

The concept of permanent roofing system with a lifetime transferable warranty, will give us peace of mind, as well as increase the value of our property

5/5

My Wife and I are very pleased with our new aluminum roof it has been almost four months since Interlock crew in so efficient and timely manner installed it. Some years ago after my asphalt shingles roof No.3, I promised myself never again with the asphalt crap, I HATE IT (Heavy, Flammable, Granules- shedding-eaves-clogging, gone with the wind, etc, etc.).

The concept of permanent roofing system with a lifetime transferable warranty, will give us peace of mind, as well as increase the value of our property.

After some hesitation regarding the cost, looking in retrospect, I believe it -was the right decision to make. The only thing left to do now is to sit, and relax under a maintenance free Interlock roof.

Finally, hats off to the installation crew, very helpful in answering technical question, posed to them on the precautions they took to prevent damage to property, on how clean they daily left the surroundings.

Thank you, Sirs, Sincerely,

Thank you for making the excellent product

5/5

When my husband Richard said he wanted to put a metal roof on this 1929 English Tudor house, I thought he had gone around the bend, maybe several bends.

After seeing the pictures and hearing about the features, I started to become a convert. Now that the job is down, I know that we made the right decision for several reasons.

First, the black Interlock shingles look so appropriate on this house. In certain lights it even appears to look like slate. Many neighbors and friends have commented on how very attractive it looks,

Secondly, the workmen did such a professional job. They were meticulous at each step of the process and, we are confident, that their craftsmanship was excellent. Each day that they were here they worked diligently and conscientiously making sure that every step of their work was done to the highest expectations. In addition, they were quiet and tried not to interrupt our daily routine.

Third, we are most pleased about all the high quality features of the product: the durability, the appearance, and the fact that it is maintenance free.

Thank you for making the excellent product.

Sincerely,
Susan and Richard

My new Interlock roof has satisfied me beyond all expectation

5/5

It has now been two years since the installation of metal interlocking shingles on the roof of my residence in Ottawa. As I indicated to the salesman at the time, if after two years I was totally satisfied with the installation and performance of my new roof I would take the time to extol the virtues of the Interlock system.

To date, I have indeed been most impressed with the performance of my roof prior to installation of the Interlock system, I was required to change the asphalt shingles on my roof every eight to ten years. Because I have a low slope roof on my home, I was not immune from the occasional leak between re-shingling jobs. Re-shingling a roof is a major financial investment, and obviously more so when considering an upgrade from the standard asphalt shingles used by the construction industry, Therefore, prior to my decision to accept the Interlock roof system, I had a number of concerns such as fading, longevity, performance, workmanship, appearance, etc. I can categorically state that, to date, initial apprehensions have not materialized. My new Interlock roof has satisfied me beyond all expectation. Besides the leak-free performance of my new root, the next greatest benefit is the appearance of the Interlock shingles versus the conventional asphalt shingles. Homes with the Interlock systems have a much greater aesthetic appearance as attested to by friends, neighbours and strangers passing through the area. This, in addition to the lifetime warranty (50 years on the resale of the home), greatly enhances the marketability of the home on re-sale. To say I am pleased as punch with my new roofing system is an understatement.

I have no objection to Interlock Industries using my endorsement of their product. I have not, nor will I receive any financial or other benefits for this endorsement. Satisfaction and peace of mind (especially when it rains) are my rewards. Thank-you Interlock Industries for a job well done.

Thank you,
