Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for D’Arcy, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
That's exactly the point, if the work is not done according to the specifications, what are we doing. Better communication, better training. Much much better training. If this is not treated as a confidential document, well I don't have to elicit the consequences. Todd and I need to work with these two crews and get this contract back on track. There is nothing else I would like to add, just communicate, in writing I guess now. Our Engineer has asked to a copy of the the warranties. Nothing to date,
Start to finish a perfect choice. Highly recommended.Efficiency of the installation, exceptional.Daily clean up around my property, unbelievable.Fantastic look and beautiful finish I could not ask for more and with a life time warranty I don't need to.
Thank you so much for all your efforts in installing our new Interlock Roof. You and your team were professional and courteous going over and beyond the scope of work expected. We and our neighbours were thoroughly impressed with how neat and tidy you were at containing the excess debris and at the same time being cautious of the landscaping. The final product looks fantastic. It was a pleasure dealing with the entire Interlock Industries team from the beginning sales process right through to the final installation. Thank you for making this difficult process so easy.
Interlock Roofing could improve on better communication for scheduling, I had to keep making the phone calls, and better follow-up from the sales representative, and site safety and cleanup could be improved. I also found cigarette butts on my property. I would also like more information on the materials used. I was concerned that they had no onsite port-a-potty, and it was an awfully long work day to not use my facility. I would have been more than happy to let them use my facilities.
I only answered the questions that I personally dealt with. I was away during 90% of the work. We previously ignored your survey due to the fact that although the roof itself is wonderful the clean up was not satisfactory and we are not complainers. My daughters truck and my car have both had screws imbedded in our tires. (On the cobblestone driveway) I have picked up many screws with the little round things on them that make them stick up when laying on the ground. There was also a bit of roofing left behind, small pieces of snipped metal that is dangerous to children and animals when stepped on in grass and on gravel. Maybe a metal detector might be useful at the end of a job? We are thoroughly satisfied with the roof itself, not happy about our tires though.
I have already raved to my friends about Interlock Roofing. And so many people have come and commented on how great the job was done, and in such a timely manner. I don't have any comments about this, since start to finish it was a top notch operation.
No Thee are so many, the staff is an issue, the installers. The other problem with our roof due to style, was it required long sheets and they are harder to install so it was more limit on installers to draw from. We had up to six crews within the six months it took to finish. The worst experience I have ever had doing a renovation, and I have done many, on many homes. I was going to report to BBB, and I still will I just have not had the time. I reached out to owner and never heard from them. Todd the organizer reached out to me, frustrated due to the lack of workers.
None. Really, it was fine. I thought it was a tad long between order and completion, and delivery of materials and completion, but the crew was tidally professional and courteous and effective.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in D’Arcy
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in D’Arcy, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in D’Arcy.
How does a metal roof handle D'Arcy's heavy snow load?
Metal roofing sheds snow far more reliably than asphalt because the smooth, slick surface prevents accumulation that leads to ice dams. With about 522 cm of snow per year in your area, that matters. Interlock panels are four-way interlocking and install over solid decking with underlayment, so they won't move or flex under load. Snow guards can be added if you want to control where snow slides—especially useful near walkways. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed, even under peak seasonal weight.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage my metal roof in D'Arcy?
No—freeze-thaw cycles simply don't harm aluminum the way they damage asphalt shingles, wood, or concrete tile. Your area sees about 56 freeze-thaw days per year, and that's exactly where aluminum's material science wins. Aluminum has no iron, so it cannot rust, and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched. Unlike wood shake, which splits and curls when water enters the grain, or asphalt, which becomes brittle in cold and soft in sun, aluminum moves predictably and remains dimensionally stable year after year across those temperature swings.
Can a metal roof rust in a coastal or mountain climate?
Aluminum roofing cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. What you get instead is a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. This matters in D'Arcy because it keeps your roof performing identically whether you're 50 km from salt air or downtown. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, plus a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish warranted 30 years against chalking. Steel roofs corrode from the inside out once scratched; aluminum simply heals itself.
Is a metal roof strong enough for D'Arcy's winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and your area's typical gusts peak around 122 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This is why the system earns an ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) that covers IBC and IRC wind requirements. Asphalt shingles at the same wind speed would already be lifting; your metal roof stays flat.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Metal roofing earns UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's real peace of mind. Many insurers recognize this and offer discounts on homeowner policies because the risk of roof damage or replacement is dramatically lower than asphalt or wood. Check with your agent, but the combination of Class 4 rating, non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire available), and the lifetime limited material warranty often opens the door to better rates. In D'Arcy's climate, that's a conversation worth having.
Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means you can install a metal roof over most existing asphalt roofs without adding beams, trusses, or posts. With 522 cm of annual snow in D'Arcy, that lightweight advantage is real: your home carries the full winter load without straining the frame. Concrete tile would demand expensive structural work; Interlock aluminum doesn't.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or clay. A metal roof needs no shingle replacement, no wood staining, no tile regrouting, and no algae or moss treatment—the smooth surface and steep pitch naturally shed D'Arcy's 412 mm of annual rain and snow. Asphalt shingles deteriorate in UV and require regular inspection; wood needs sealing every few years; tile cracks from freeze-thaw and foot traffic. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance because it genuinely delivers it. A rinse after heavy snow and a visual inspection every few years is all you're doing.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no gradual coverage reduction—and it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact loss. Asphalt typically lasts 15-25 years and goes to landfill; wood shake 25-40 years with costly maintenance; concrete tile 50+ years but needs structural reinforcement and repairs. Interlock metal is installed once and stays. At current regional pricing with interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on installation, the math flips in your favor over 40+ years. This is the last roof you buy.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt roof?
Yes—and that's one of aluminum's practical advantages. Because Interlock panels weigh only 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft (vs. several pounds for tile), they install directly over existing shingles, ice shield, and felt without adding bulk or demand on framing. The installer nails through the existing roof into the solid deck below, creating a waterproof, interlocked system. Installation is faster than a full tear-off, which saves labor and eliminates the cost and environmental impact of hauling old asphalt to landfill. In D'Arcy, this means less disruption and a lower total project cost.
Does a metal roof help with heating and cooling costs?
energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb heat, with thermal emissivity rated at 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), so summer sun bounces off instead of cooking your attic. In D'Arcy, where you see about 3174 sunshine hours per year, that reflection keeps cooling loads lower than asphalt, which absorbs that energy and heats your home. Metal roofs also allow better attic ventilation—no trapped heat in summer, better moisture management in winter. Winter heating benefit is modest since you want some solar gain, but the year-round efficiency and Cool Roof Rating Council certification make the math work.
Is a metal roof a good choice for D’Arcy’s climate?
Yes. D’Arcy averages about 522 cm of snow, 412 mm of rain, roughly 56 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 122 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
