Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Birken, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
That's exactly the point, if the work is not done according to the specifications, what are we doing. Better communication, better training. Much much better training. If this is not treated as a confidential document, well I don't have to elicit the consequences. Todd and I need to work with these two crews and get this contract back on track. There is nothing else I would like to add, just communicate, in writing I guess now. Our Engineer has asked to a copy of the the warranties. Nothing to date,
Start to finish a perfect choice. Highly recommended.Efficiency of the installation, exceptional.Daily clean up around my property, unbelievable.Fantastic look and beautiful finish I could not ask for more and with a life time warranty I don't need to.
Thank you so much for all your efforts in installing our new Interlock Roof. You and your team were professional and courteous going over and beyond the scope of work expected. We and our neighbours were thoroughly impressed with how neat and tidy you were at containing the excess debris and at the same time being cautious of the landscaping. The final product looks fantastic. It was a pleasure dealing with the entire Interlock Industries team from the beginning sales process right through to the final installation. Thank you for making this difficult process so easy.
Interlock Roofing could improve on better communication for scheduling, I had to keep making the phone calls, and better follow-up from the sales representative, and site safety and cleanup could be improved. I also found cigarette butts on my property. I would also like more information on the materials used. I was concerned that they had no onsite port-a-potty, and it was an awfully long work day to not use my facility. I would have been more than happy to let them use my facilities.
I only answered the questions that I personally dealt with. I was away during 90% of the work. We previously ignored your survey due to the fact that although the roof itself is wonderful the clean up was not satisfactory and we are not complainers. My daughters truck and my car have both had screws imbedded in our tires. (On the cobblestone driveway) I have picked up many screws with the little round things on them that make them stick up when laying on the ground. There was also a bit of roofing left behind, small pieces of snipped metal that is dangerous to children and animals when stepped on in grass and on gravel. Maybe a metal detector might be useful at the end of a job? We are thoroughly satisfied with the roof itself, not happy about our tires though.
I have already raved to my friends about Interlock Roofing. And so many people have come and commented on how great the job was done, and in such a timely manner. I don't have any comments about this, since start to finish it was a top notch operation.
No Thee are so many, the staff is an issue, the installers. The other problem with our roof due to style, was it required long sheets and they are harder to install so it was more limit on installers to draw from. We had up to six crews within the six months it took to finish. The worst experience I have ever had doing a renovation, and I have done many, on many homes. I was going to report to BBB, and I still will I just have not had the time. I reached out to owner and never heard from them. Todd the organizer reached out to me, frustrated due to the lack of workers.
None. Really, it was fine. I thought it was a tad long between order and completion, and delivery of materials and completion, but the crew was tidally professional and courteous and effective.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Birken
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Birken, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Birken.
How does a metal roof handle Birken's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because its smooth, interlocking aluminum surface prevents ice dams from forming and backing water under shingles. With about 520 cm of snow annually in your region, this matters—the lightweight panels (Slate at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) don't accumulate dangerous loads the way heavy tile does, yet they're warranted to resist wind gusts up to 122 km/h that can dislodge snow. Optional snow guards let you control how and when snow slides off. The four-way interlocking design keeps panels locked tight even as freeze-thaw cycles—you experience roughly 56 per year—stress and shift materials.
Will Birken's freeze-thaw cycling damage aluminum roofing?
No—aluminum actually thrives under freeze-thaw stress because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has no iron in it, so the oxide layer that forms on its surface doesn't flake or degrade as freeze-thaw cycles repeat. With about 56 freeze-thaw days yearly in your climate, plus roughly 412 mm of rain and snowmelt percolating into every surface, the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years) and the aluminum substrate work together to resist the spalling and deterioration that breaks down asphalt, wood, and concrete tiles over 15–20 years.
Can an aluminum roof rust in Birken's rainy, snowy climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, a thin oxide layer forms naturally on the surface and self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal beneath. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes (where steel would rust aggressively) to an Antarctic research station. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel adds a 30-year warranted barrier against chalking and fading, so even in Birken's wet climate (412 mm rain, 520 cm snow annually), you won't face the rust stains, structural weakness, or replacement cycles that plague steel roofing in similar conditions.
Will my homeowner's insurance recognize a metal roof's hail resistance?
Many insurers offer discounts because Interlock Metal Roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. You should contact your agent with the UL 2218 listing and ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) to discuss potential premium reductions. The aluminum construction means your roof won't develop the soft spots, leaks, and progressive failure that asphalt exhibits after hail strikes. Because Birken's gusts reach 122 km/h and hail can arrive suddenly in mountain climates, having impact-rated protection you can document to your insurer adds both safety and financial peace of mind.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without additional framing. Even the heavier Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. This matters in Birken because you avoid the cost and complexity of structural upgrades, and older homes can get a new roof without foundation stress. The lightweight aluminum panels are warranted to withstand wind gusts up to 122 km/h through four-way interlocking, delivering the durability and appearance of traditional heavy tile without the engineering work or the load that would concentrate stress on aging supports.
What makes Interlock's warranty better than a typical asphalt roof warranty?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap that shrinks over time. If you sell, the next owner inherits a 50-year transferable term, a huge resale advantage. Asphalt roofs typically carry 20–30 year prorated warranties (you pay more to claim as years pass) and rarely transfer. Because Birken experiences roughly 56 freeze-thaw cycles yearly plus 412 mm of rain, the materials that fail fastest are those that split and curl under thermal stress—exactly what the Guardian covers for life. You're buying the last roof you'll install, not the first of three or four.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing needs virtually no maintenance—no algae treatment, no granule replacement, no split-shingle repair. Asphalt roofs require annual inspections and spot repairs, wood shakes need preservative recoating every 3–5 years to resist rot in Birken's 412 mm annual rainfall and 56 freeze-thaw cycles, and tile requires mortar repointing. Interlock's aluminum panels are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspections after extreme weather (your region gusts to 122 km/h) are sensible, but the panels themselves don't degrade, chalk visibly, or require intervention. Over a 50-year lifespan, that's thousands of dollars and dozens of service calls you'll never make.
Do reflective metal roofs really cut cooling costs, or is that marketing?
energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) are independently verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council—it's not marketing, it's physics. Aluminum reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. In Birken, with about 3,174 annual sunshine hours, that reflection reduces cooling demand even though your winters are long. The cooler roof surface also means less thermal shock during your region's roughly 56 freeze-thaw days, which reduces material stress. Choose an energy-efficiency color and you'll see lower summer AC costs plus slower thermal cycling damage—a dual payoff in your climate.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a 40–50 year horizon?
Yes, when you measure total cost of ownership, not installation price alone. An asphalt roof costs less upfront but lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off, haul-away, and disposal (landfill cost included in your regional waste stream). Interlock Metal Roofing is currently offering interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499 on installation. Over 50 years, you'd replace asphalt 2–3 times; metal is a single installation with no maintenance cost and a transferable warranty. Birken's 56 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 520 cm snow load accelerate asphalt failure, but aluminum thrives under those stresses. Plus, the resale value lift and potential insurance discount offset the higher initial spend—this is the last roof you buy.
Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in the Birken area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served the Sea-to-Sky region since 1983 and carries full expertise in local climate conditions—heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycling, coastal salt air, and wind gusts to 122 km/h. They install from factory specifications and can discuss whether to install over your existing roof or tear off, advise on snow guards for your slope and snow load (about 520 cm annually in your area), and help you choose profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, or Standing Seam) and energy-efficiency colors. Because they're local, warranty support and any follow-up questions stay within your community. Contact them to schedule a no-obligation assessment and confirm current promotions.
