Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Uptown, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Todd was very helpful and responsive
When they were cutting the shingles, they could have done it a lot faster if they had had a cutting saw set up here on site. At the ends of the roof, when heavy rain is present, the water is running onto the concrete. It is not going into the gutter.
The product is excellent and the application specialist was highly talented Having at least one more crew member would have been useful
Interlock Roofing could have improved during the project because of the measurements. Randal was very upfront in the fact that there was a measurement issue for the total length of the panels. It was an unfortunate missed oversight, but in terms of how it got handled and addressed, I was pleased. They were very professional and I was more than happy to continue working with them for the roof. All in all, I am satisfied with the process.
1. It was an insurance claim and Interlock was the only bidder. 2. Randall came by for an hour before the work was initiated and told us about the product and answered our questions - but he neglected to leave us with any printed materials, and; after the work was completed payment was handled by the insurer and so we have zero paperwork from Interlock. If we had a problem with the product or workmanship we'd have nothing to prove we even did business with Interlock. 3. Your installers seemed to be very diligent people but there was virtually no interaction with them and I suspect this related to a language/culture barrier. We have no problem in dealing with new Canadians, but I suspect that if you had at least one friendly/engaging person to interact with on the jobsite your work satisfaction ratings would improve. Your business is not unique to this phenomenon - there are many well-trained and deeply experienced medical professionals who lack the kind of beside manner that would make them popular with their patients. Charisma helps. 4. There was no commitment to an installation schedule and this caused two problems: a) It fouled up our overall project schedule and create problems with other contractors, and; b) We were forced to forego any plans of getting away in the summer. While it's fair to attribute part of the delays to untimely rains, it was also apparent that Todd takes his family vacation commitments seriously. We don't begrudge anyone a vacation - but your unwillingness to commit to a schedule left us without one. This approach makes it seem like you have a basic disregard for other people and organizations - perhaps the fact that you have no direct competitors on the west coast for this particular product lends itself to this marketing strategy. It's a nice roof.
I am glad that we had a look to see what was out there.
Liked the product, the price was to much.
Please give my thanks to Randall for taking the time to look at are project.Very knowledgeable professional presentation.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Uptown
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Uptown, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Uptown.
How does metal roofing handle Uptown's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum roofing sheds snow and ice effectively because its smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion and buildup that trap moisture on asphalt. With about 1150 cm of snow annually and roughly 89 freeze-thaw days per year, your roof faces repeated cycles where ice dams can form and water seeps under traditional shingles; Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and non-porous aluminum eliminate the absorption that causes rot and curling. The metal's thermal conductivity also allows heat from your home to release snow naturally, reducing dangerous accumulation.
Why don't freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum metal roofing like they damage asphalt shingles?
Asphalt absorbs water, which expands when it freezes and cracks the shingle from inside; aluminum is non-porous and simply will not absorb moisture. Over 89 freeze-thaw days per year in Uptown, this matters enormously. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels maintain their structural integrity through countless cycles because ice forms on top, not within the material. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting—defects that plague organic materials in cold climates—giving you protection tailored to your region's actual weather.
Does aluminum roofing rust in Uptown's wet climate?
No. Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust at all. When exposed to moisture and oxygen, it develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually seals the surface and stops further corrosion; if scratched, this layer self-heals automatically. With 655 mm of rain annually and persistent dampness, steel roofing would corrode, but aluminum thrives in wet conditions. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of Interlock panels adds a 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading, providing extra insurance in Uptown's cloudy climate where moisture lingers.
Can metal roofing withstand Uptown's winter winds and gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Uptown experiences typical gusts around 121 km/h, well within this rating, so your roof will not shift or separate during storms. The interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire panel system rather than relying on fasteners alone, eliminating the uplift failures common on shingle roofs. This engineered redundancy is why ice and wind damage claims on metal roofs are far lower than on asphalt in regions with similar conditions.
Will my house need structural reinforcement for metal roofing?
Likely not. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roof structures without reinforcement. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft and Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft are negligible compared to traditional materials. This lightweight advantage means you avoid expensive framing upgrades, install faster, and reduce load on your home's foundation. Your installer (Interlock Metal Roofing BC Ltd., serving the region since 1983) will assess your existing structure, but most Uptown homes qualify for direct installation.
What is the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—defects that plague asphalt over 20–25 years. It transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion, adding documented value at resale. With aluminum that will not rust and a 30-year coating warranty on the Alunar finish, you can reasonably expect 50+ years of reliable performance in Uptown's 1150 cm annual snowfall and 655 mm rain climate, making it a genuine last-roof investment.
Does metal roofing reduce hail damage and insurance costs?
Interlock panels hold a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This resilience often translates to lower premiums or policy discounts with insurers who recognize aluminum's durability. In regions with similar climates, metal roof owners report noticeable savings on comprehensive coverage. While Uptown's hail risk is moderate, the Class 4 rating protects you against unexpected severe events and is far superior to asphalt shingles, which dent easily and degrade faster after impacts, leading to leaks within years.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock metal roofing is virtually maintenance-free. Aluminum does not need scraping, sealing, or replacing like asphalt, which requires attention every 3–5 years in climates with 89 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Wood shakes split and curl, requiring individual repairs; asphalt shingles lose granules and curl in the same conditions. Your Interlock roof simply sheds snow and rain—no gutter cleaning due to leaves decomposing on the surface, no wood-boring insect damage, no moss or algae growth issues that plague organic materials. Annual visual inspection is enough for most homeowners.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's lifetime, metal roofing costs significantly less. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years in Uptown's wet, freeze-thaw climate and requires multiple tear-offs and reinstalls; aluminum lasts 50+ years with one purchase. If you replace asphalt twice over the next 50 years, you spend money, time, and disposal fees twice; Interlock's single install saves you labor, waste, and future hassle. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on installation. The Guardian warranty and transferable 50-year term also increase your home's resale appeal and documented value.
Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is about 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles that end up in landfills. Your single metal roof, installed once and lasting 50+ years, eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle that occurs every 15–25 years with asphalt. Recycled aluminum also requires far less energy to produce than new asphalt or virgin aluminum. Additionally, energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load and lowering your carbon footprint over the roof's life. This circular approach aligns with CALGreen waste-reduction standards.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Uptown’s climate?
Yes. Uptown averages about 1150 cm of snow, 655 mm of rain, roughly 89 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 121 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
