Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Wilden, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Just a short note to say how pleased I am with my Interlock Roofing System. The product has surpassed my expectations as far as looks and functionality are concerned. All of my neighbours have commented on it favourably, and I have had people stop me on the street to discuss its attributes. The installation was just as advertised – expedient and professional. The crew went above and beyond to ensure the job was to my liking. The acid test for any job is the answer to the question, “If you were to do it again would you use BC’s Best Roof and the Interlock System?” My answer to this is a resounding “Yes!” Thank you.
We had our Interlock metal roof installed this summer and had the pleasure of dealing with Dave Olafson who thoroughly informed us of all the benefits of an Interlock roof and all of the various options available. Mr. Olafson was very easy to get along with, professional, answered all of our questions and helped us with our final decision. And after the business was taken care of Dave beat my husband during a round of golf… Our roof looks fantastic, and has given our home a whole new dimension of richness. Living in the Okanagan interface, the threat of fire is constant during summer months. With our new Interlock roof’s high fire rating, we feel much safer. Installation was done by one very hard working gentleman who did an amazing job, working in 38–40-degree temperatures daily, and enduring the smoky air from existing fires in the area. I highly recommend BC’s Best Roof to anyone who may be in the market for a new roof, and we look forward to never having to replace ours again.
Interlock is the best roofing available in our opinion and now have had it installed on our second home. Our 1st home had the shingles installed in 2009, and helped sell the home in 2021, as they looked identical to when installed, had no issues and had the transferable 50 year warranty for the second owner. We just got our new house fitted with interlock roofing, as our original (40 year warranty asphalt shingles) were deemed uninsurable (at 23 years old) when trying to get insurance and recently started leaking. Now to the new interlock roof and the customer service. The team is amazing, and professional, they got our roof on, were available to answer any questions, and ensured we were 100%.satisfied before the team left and final payment was made. Decision for the roof was mainly due previous satisfaction, but we also loved knowing we don’t have annual costs/work in the future for things such as moss removal. The roof great for wind, hail and fire rating as well with is a bonus in the Okanagan.
We knew we would require a new roof soon, so when information about Interlock Roofing Systems arrived, the timing was great. We were very impressed with the product and the lifetime warranty for both the material and the installation. A wide choice of colours and finishes allowed us to pick the roof that would most enhance the appearance of our house. The installation process was equal to the high standard of the product. The crew was efficient, tidy, and friendly. The installation included new colour matched flashing and vents which exceeded those of the original roof in both function and aesthetics. Attention to detail was meticulous. We received positive comments from neighbours before the installation was complete. It looked that good! Everyone we had contact with during the process was professional, knowledgeable and helpful. This roof has definitely added to the curb appeal of our house. It has been a great investment with the added benefit that we will never have to re-roof again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wilden
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wilden, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wilden.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow like Wilden's 1150 cm winters?
Metal roofing sheds snow effectively because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams that trap water on asphalt. Wilden's average 1150 cm of annual snowfall and 89 freeze-thaw days create perfect conditions for ice damming on conventional roofs; Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay secure under that load, and the light weight—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement needed. Snow slides cleanly without pooling, reducing the weight stress conventional tiles would impose on your home.
Will a metal roof crack or degrade during Wilden's freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum cannot crack, split, or curl through freeze-thaw cycling because it has no water absorption pathways—unlike wood shakes or clay tile, which expand and contract with moisture. Wilden experiences about 89 freeze-thaw days per year combined with 655 mm of annual rainfall, stressing materials that trap water. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels was certified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for exactly these climates, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against any chalking or fading from that cycling.
Can metal roofing rust in a place as wet and snowy as Wilden?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—what forms instead is an invisible, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. In Wilden, where you see 1150 cm of snow and 655 mm of rain annually, the real durability test is long-term moisture exposure. Interlock applies the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel, which adds a second barrier and is why the product has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Steel roofs require paint maintenance; aluminum simply does not corrode.
Are metal roofs secure in Wilden's wind and gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Wilden's typical gust patterns that reach about 121 km/h. The panels lock together on all four sides, creating a unified system that distributes lateral force across your entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. Wilden's daily-max winds average 11 km/h, but the engineering safety margin built into the 120 mph warranty means you're protected through the occasional severe weather event without worry.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and could I qualify for insurance breaks?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This proven durability often opens the door to homeowner insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating for a quote. Wilden's climate includes hail risk during spring and early summer, so this protection is real insurance for your investment and may reduce your annual premium substantially.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to install metal roofing over my existing roof?
No structural reinforcement is required because Interlock aluminum profiles weigh 96% less than concrete or clay tile—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft. Your home's frame was engineered to handle asphalt shingles plus that weight capacity; metal roofing uses only a fraction of it. This light weight means you can install Interlock directly over your existing roof in most cases, saving tear-off costs and keeping debris out of Wilden landfills. Your local installer can confirm your specific structural capacity during the free assessment.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt every 20 years?
Metal roofing is the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles last about 15–20 years in Wilden's freeze-thaw climate (89 cycles per year accelerate aging), requiring costly replacement roughly every two decades. Interlock comes with the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable once at 50 years to the next owner. Over 50 years, you avoid at least two full asphalt replacements, the labor costs, debris removal, and the environmental cost of landfill disposal. The interest-free 3-month financing currently available makes the initial investment even more manageable.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections for missing shingles, no fungicide treatments, no gutter clearing from decomposed asphalt granules. Asphalt shingles lose granules as they age, especially through Wilden's 1150 cm of snow and 89 freeze-thaw cycles, clogging gutters and gutters and exposing the mat. Wood shakes need professional treatment and repairs from splitting and rot. Interlock aluminum panels are classified under CALGreen standards as a low-maintenance material; a simple occasional rinse removes any dust or pollen, and that's it. Your roof simply stays roof while you enjoy your home.
What's the timeline for installing a metal roof, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, but your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd.—serving the region since 1983—can provide a precise estimate after measuring your home. In most cases, yes, Interlock installs directly over your existing roof, eliminating costly and disruptive tear-off. This means minimal disruption, faster completion, and lower labor costs. The light weight of aluminum panels (0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft) ensures this overlay method is structurally sound. A detailed timeline and process walk-through are part of your free consultation with your local installer.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Asphalt shingles cannot be fully recycled and accumulate in landfills; over your lifetime, you may contribute multiple tons to waste. Interlock aluminum panels, manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, retain their value and material integrity indefinitely. When your home eventually changes hands in 50+ years, the roof itself becomes a recyclable resource rather than waste. This circular approach aligns with your home's long-term stewardship and reduces the environmental footprint of home ownership.
