Interlock can improve their pricing. The roof was very expensive. Overall, the roof looks good, but no one would pay this much for a roof.

Review: November 29, 2023 Completion: October 17, 2023

They could have improved by checking their installation crews. They should inspect everything halfway between the roof being done or closer to the end of the project. That would be a good idea because the workers just come, finish, and leave. Also, the customer satisfaction survey should be left with the customer to do when they've had a chance to fully inspect the work, instead of giving the survey right away on the day the project is done. At the point when they gave me the survey, to my knowledge, everything was okay at first glance. They made me complete the survey right at that moment. I think it's a beautiful roof as far as the appearance, color, and profile they used. I'm very satisfied with that. It looks awesome.

The copy of the contract John Turnbull left with me is visibly unclear. I would appreciate someone give another copy of the contract that is clear for me to read. I hope everything goes as planned.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bobcaygeon

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bobcaygeon.

How does a metal roof handle Bobcaygeon's 137 cm of annual snowfall?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding. Bobcaygeon averages about 137 cm of snow yearly and 88 freeze-thaw cycles, which cause traditional shingles to crack and curl as water enters seams and refreezes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels eliminate overlap seams where ice dams form. The panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above the typical regional gust of 104 km/h—so snow load and wind-driven snow won't compromise the seal. Optional snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled snow release rather than full shedding.

Why does freeze-thaw cycling in Ontario damage some roofs but not metal?

Freeze-thaw damage happens when water enters material, freezes, expands, and cracks it—asphalt shingles and wood experience this repeatedly over Bobcaygeon's 88 annual freeze-thaw days. Aluminum cannot rot or split because water doesn't penetrate it; it sheds on the hard surface instead. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has no iron, so it cannot rust even when scratched—the oxide layer self-heals. After 88 freeze-thaw cycles per year, asphalt loses flexibility and begins to curl; aluminum stays rigid and maintains its seal. This is why The Guardian warranty covers cracking, curling, and splitting—Interlock simply does not experience these failures.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Ontario's wet climate?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron, the element that corrodes in wet air. Bobcaygeon receives about 785 mm of rain annually plus 137 cm of snow, exposing your roof to constant moisture. Steel roofing rusts under these conditions; aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. If the coating is scratched, that oxide layer self-heals naturally. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a 30-year warranty against corrosion, chalking, and fading—but even without it, the aluminum substrate itself cannot fail from rust. This is a fundamental material advantage unmatched by steel or wood products.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing asphalt shingles without reinforcing the structure?

Yes—Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light, eliminating the need for structural reinforcement in nearly all cases. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which looks like heavy clay tile, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile. Compare that to the structural load of 137 cm of snow (Bobcaygeon's annual average) pressing down year after year; the roof deck bears far more from weather than from the metal itself. The Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes can install Interlock directly over existing asphalt without adding support, saving thousands on structural work. Your contractor will verify deck condition, but the material weight is never the limiting factor.

Will a metal roof stay on during Bobcaygeon's wind gusts and storms?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding Bobcaygeon's typical peak gusts of 104 km/h. The interlocking design creates a continuous mechanical bond between panels in all four directions, so wind cannot lift edges or create uplift. Wind-driven rain and snow cannot work their way under the seams because there are no traditional overlaps. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind load standards. Your existing asphalt shingles are likely warranted for 60–80 mph; Interlock provides 40–50% more wind resistance with zero additional maintenance.

What happens to a metal roof in a hailstorm, and could it lower my insurance premiums?

Interlock aluminum roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the material survives repeated heavy impacts without losing structural integrity or impact resistance. Many insurers recognize this and offer discounts for Class 4 rated roofs because hail claims are rare. While Bobcaygeon's climate data does not flag hail as a frequent hazard, the region does sit in Ontario's variable storm corridor. A Class 4 rating gives you peace of mind and potential premium savings that offset the initial investment over 10–20 years. Contact your insurer to confirm available discounts once the roof is installed.

Can a reflective metal roof actually reduce cooling costs in Ontario?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat that absorbs into dark asphalt, lowering attic and home temperatures during warm months. The reflective coatings achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Bobcaygeon enjoys about 2,935 sunshine hours per year, so even in a moderate climate, those hours add up; every degree of reflected heat means less cooling-fan runtime. Winter heating loss through the roof is negligible compared to the summer gain. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted for 30 years, so the reflectivity remains stable over decades. Combined with the roof's tight sealing (no air leaks through overlaps), you see measurable energy savings year-round.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal requires almost none—asphalt needs regular shingle replacement, wood requires staining and rot inspection, but aluminum simply sheds debris and weathers without degrading. The hard, non-porous surface means no moss, algae, or moisture accumulation despite Bobcaygeon's 785 mm annual rainfall. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after the 88 annual freeze-thaw cycles keep everything performing—but the roof itself does not need treatment, sealing, or repairs from weather. Asphalt shingles typically fail within 15–20 years in freeze-thaw climates; Interlock's lifetime limited warranty means you never buy another roof. The labor and material cost difference over 50 years is substantial.

Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Interlock metal roofing costs more upfront but is the last roof you will buy—and the math favors it over a 50-year ownership window. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Bobcaygeon's freeze-thaw environment (88 cycles yearly degrade shingles rapidly), requiring complete replacement 2–3 times before a metal roof needs any major work. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, plus one transferable 50-year term for the next owner, means zero replacement costs. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2,499 in savings on installation. Factor in lower maintenance (no repairs, no treatments, no cleaning), no structural reinforcement needed (aluminum is ~96% lighter than tile), and potential insurance discounts (Class 4 hail rating), and the total cost of ownership becomes lower than repeated asphalt cycles.

Can a metal roof be installed directly over my existing asphalt shingles, and how long does it take?

Yes—Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt in most cases, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. A qualified installer inspects the deck for rot or structural damage; if sound, the old shingles stay in place, the new metal fastens directly to the deck, and your home is weather-protected the same day. Installation timeline varies by roof size and complexity, but most residential projects complete in 2–7 days. The tight sealing of four-way interlocking panels and solid deck beneath means no additional work afterward. No structural reinforcement is required for most homes because aluminum weighs only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the region since 1998 and manages scheduling to fit your timeline.
