Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Norwood, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Dear Dave, Wow, what a roof... it is everything you said it would be and more. I just returned from vacation to find the roof finished on time and within budget. In addition, our tenants Cogeco Cable are very pleased also. As you know, I was looking for a long-term solution, and your product fit the bill perfectly. Thank you again for taking the time to explain the various differences between all the roofing products available. Your experience in the industry sure made the decision-making process much more straightforward. The aluminum solution was not inexpensive; however, the quality and longevity of your product more than makeup for the additional cost. Dave, we have a number of commercial properties that we manage, and you will be my first call when we have to replace the roof on any of those properties.
We wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our new Interlock Roof. The initial information session, the quality of the product and workmanship and the follow-up have been excellent. In the low-key introductory session, we received sufficient Information to make an informed decision. With the range of colours and styles, we had several options that would have worked for our house. We were convinced that this product would have long-lasting benefits to the appearance of our house. The men who worked on our house, as well as being friendly, courteous and knowledgeable about the product, worked quickly. It was really appreciated how they tidied as they went along. They kept us informed about the progress of their work and, in the end, did a walkthrough of the whole job. They explained how to go on the roof safely to do any future chimney work, for example. The Interlocking roof really has added to the attractiveness of the house. It looks smart and has drawn interest from neighbours and passers-by. We like the way the interlocking roof has become an integral part of the eaves troughing and protects the fascia boards, which will provide extra strength and protection. Already we notice that the autumn leaves are sliding away – and the squirrels too! We anticipate that snow and ice will act in the same way. We look forward to a roof that will continue to look good over time and provide Increased protection and insulation from the elements. We would have no hesitation in recommending your roof to others.
Had a service call today by Brad, on time professional with a very friendly manner. Treated me as a valued customer explaining things in an understandable manner. Thank You
We bought our home three years ago. It has an interlocking metal roof installed which we think is great. However we noticed that given the profile of the roof near the entry something needed to be done to stop snow from falling onto the entry porch. We contacted Interlock and they recommended a pair of snow bars. Their crew installed the two bars in short order at a very reasonable price. Since then, we have not had any further issue with snow falling onto the entry porch even with the recent several snowfalls. It was a great solution to our problem.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Norwood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Norwood, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Norwood.
How does a metal roof handle Norwood's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Interlock metal roofing sheds snow and ice more readily than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and interlocking four-way panel design resist ice dam formation. Norwood receives about 123 cm of snow annually with roughly 92 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles but don't affect aluminum's integrity. The panels won't split or delaminate as temperatures cycle, and the lightweight design (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even with snow load. Add a snow guard if desired, and your roof will outlast decades of winter cycling.
Why does freeze-thaw weather in Central Ontario ruin asphalt but not metal roofing?
Asphalt roofing absorbs water, expands when frozen, and fractures as it thaws—a process that accelerates wear with Norwood's average 92 freeze-thaw days per year. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy sheds water immediately and contains no porous material to trap moisture or absorb thermal stress. The Alunar PVDF coating—applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against chalking—remains flexible across temperature swings without cracking. Even with Norwood's mean annual temperature of 8.4°C and winter extremes, the material simply doesn't degrade the way organic shingles do.
Why is aluminum roofing immune to rust in a climate with heavy rainfall?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—ideal for Norwood's 770 mm annual rainfall. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts in the presence of oxygen and moisture, requiring costly coatings that eventually fail. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides for extra durability in wet climates. After 25+ years of installations from coastal salt-air homes to remote research stations, the material's corrosion resistance is field-proven.
Can Interlock metal panels withstand the wind gusts Norwood typically experiences?
Yes. Norwood's typical daily winds reach about 18 km/h with gusts to 103 km/h, well within the profile's design envelope. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, thanks to its four-way interlocking panel geometry that prevents uplift and lateral movement. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms code compliance for residential installation in high-wind zones. Combined with proper fastening and underlayment, the system provides reliable protection against the gust events Norwood experiences year-round.
Will a metal roof with reflective coating lower my cooling costs?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Norwood receives about 3018 sunshine hours annually, so summer heat gain is real—and every percentage point of reflection reduces cooling demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms these values will persist over time. While Norwood's mild 8.4°C mean temperature means heating dominates the annual load, the reflective finish still lowers peak-summer AC costs without compromising winter solar gain on south-facing slopes.
Can I install a metal tile roof on my existing home without reinforcing the frame?
Yes, because Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing residential roof structures, engineered for asphalt shingle loads (around 2–3 lb/sq ft per layer), can accommodate metal tile without reinforcement. This also means the roof can typically install directly over your existing asphalt, eliminating a costly tear-off and landfill disposal. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation methods for most framing types, and Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has installed thousands of roofs this way since 1998 without structural modification.
Does a UL Class 4 hail rating actually save money on homeowners insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for non-degradable roofing. Contact your insurer before installation to confirm eligibility, but the combination of Class 4 impact resistance and a lifetime limited material warranty often qualifies for favorable rates. Hail events in Central Ontario are rare, but when they occur, the aluminum's impact resistance and warranty coverage eliminate the headache of fighting a claim.
What makes the Guardian Warranty actually lifetime, and is it transferable?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—meaning you never pay a deductible for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, or loss of impact resistance, no matter how old the roof is. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date. This structure reflects Interlock's confidence in the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and Alunar PVDF coating durability. For Norwood homeowners planning to stay long-term or sell eventually, the dual-owner protection significantly increases home value and buyer confidence compared to asphalt's 15–20 year life.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need in Norwood's climate?
Virtually none. Asphalt shingles require regular inspection, moss treatment (especially with 770 mm annual rainfall), and damage repair every few years. Interlock aluminum roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: the non-porous surface won't grow moss, the Alunar coating resists weathering (30-year color warranty), and there's no sealing or re-coating needed. Occasional inspection for debris and gutter cleaning is good practice, but the material itself is passive—no repairs, no replacement of failed shingles, no algae or rust treatment. Over 25 years, the time and cost savings are substantial.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt without tearing it off?
Yes, in most cases. Interlock metal roofing can install directly over existing asphalt if the deck is sound, properly fastened, and has adequate load capacity—which residential framing typically does, since aluminum panels are roughly 96% lighter than tile. Removing the old roof entirely is not necessary, saving you thousands in labor and landfill fees. Your installer will inspect the existing deck, add underlayment, install flashing and trim, and fasten the interlocking panels according to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has completed this retrofit process on hundreds of Norwood-area homes since 1998, confirming it's reliable and cost-effective.
