Review: November 9, 2020Completion: October 13, 2020

the onsite work crew could communicate their work schedule more clearly, they often did not start until after 11am, and on the days that they didn't show up they did not call, we were rain free many days despite the weather report forecasted and the work crew would have know that should they have called and checked with us. The roof would have been completed that much sooner, therefore decreasing our stress that the high winds and rains would penetrate the roof. Overall we felt Albert and Dennis completed a good job but we felt there could have been a clearer communication regarding work hours and schedule.

It seems to me snow guards where put in places we did not discuss, and in places we did discuss snow guards they were omitted. It also seems as if they wanted to charge extra which I did not like at all.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wainfleet

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wainfleet, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wainfleet.

Will a metal roof handle Wainfleet's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking?

Yes — aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer doesn't crack or peel the way asphalt or wood does. Wainfleet experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, and the four-way interlocking panels are engineered to move without fastener stress or panel separation. Unlike slate or cedar, which split and check after repeated freezing, 3105-H24 aluminum alloy simply cycles without degradation. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, reflecting how well this material performs in your climate.

How does metal roofing handle snow load and ice dams in Wainfleet?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice faster than asphalt because the smooth surface offers less friction and conducts heat from the building interior more evenly, reducing the temperature differential that creates ice dams. Wainfleet receives approximately 97 cm of snow annually, and the lightweight panels (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) allow clean snow slide-off without adding structural burden. Optional snow guards keep snow from sliding onto vehicles or entry areas if desired. The slope-friendly design, paired with proper installation over solid decking, works with your region's typical wind gusts up to 113 km/h to naturally clear accumulation.

Why is aluminum better than steel roofing in a climate with 856 mm of annual rain?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, invisible oxide layer that heals itself when scratched, protecting the metal beneath even under Wainfleet's wet conditions. Steel, by contrast, requires constant paint or coating maintenance to prevent rust, especially as the protective layer breaks down over 20–30 years. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel adds 30 years of warranty coverage against chalking and fading, but the aluminum substrate itself will never rust, rain or salt air.

Can a metal roof survive Wainfleet's wind gusts and storms?

The four-way interlocking system locks panels on all sides, resisting wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification — well above Wainfleet's typical gusts of 113 km/h. Each panel fastens only at non-exposed points, so wind pressure can't peel the roof away the way it can with loose-laid shingles. This design is validated by the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025), which governs roofing installation in Ontario. Even in your region's gusty seasons, the mechanical lock between adjacent panels absorbs and distributes wind load across the entire system.

Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail insurance discounts?

Yes — Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4 roofing because the claim history is dramatically lower than asphalt. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certificate to verify your discount. In regions with frequent hail, this rating translates to real savings over the roof's life. Wainfleet's 97 cm of annual snow and variable weather patterns mean summer hail is a possibility worth protecting against.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and is it really transferable?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner — covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. If you sell, the next owner receives a one-time transferable 50-year term from completion date. This addresses the biggest fear homeowners have: whether a 25–30 year roof investment pays off if they move. Because metal roofing rarely needs replacement within a human lifetime, most owners never file a claim; the warranty exists as proof of confidence. Combined with Wainfleet's moderate climate (about 81 freeze-thaw cycles annually), aluminum's durability means you're buying your last roof.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost versus asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing costs more initially, but asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years, while Interlock lasts 40–60+ years — often a single installation per homeowner. Factor in removal and landfill costs for asphalt tear-offs, plus labor for re-roofing every 20 years, and metal's true cost per year drops significantly. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and save at least $2,499 on installation. Additionally, metal's minimal maintenance (no algae treatment, no shingle replacement patches) saves money over decades. For a Wainfleet home with exposure to 856 mm of rain and variable freeze-thaw, the durability premium translates to genuine long-term savings.

Can my home's framing handle a metal roof, or do I need structural upgrades?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — and Slate at just 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most existing roofs can support this weight without upgrades, meaning installation happens directly over your current asphalt or wood shingles, saving demolition costs and labor time. Your home was built to support traditional tile or slate, which weigh 7–12 times more; aluminum feels like almost nothing by comparison. A structural engineer can confirm your specific situation, but for the vast majority of homes in Wainfleet, the lightweight aluminum panels install without reinforcement, accelerating the project timeline.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Metal roofing requires essentially no maintenance beyond annual gutter cleaning — no pressure washing, no fungicide treatment, no replacing individual shingles. Asphalt requires regular moss and algae removal in damp climates, and wood shakes split and cup after repeated Wainfleet freeze-thaw cycling (about 81 days per year), demanding frequent replacement. Concrete or clay tile cracks under frost and needs constant caulking. The Alunar® fluorocarbon finish resists fading and chalking for 30 years, so your roof looks similar to how it looked five years in. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden compared to traditional materials. Over 30+ years, this translates to hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars saved on repairs and treatments.

Does Interlock have a local installer serving Wainfleet?

Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the Niagara Peninsula region since 1998, bringing 25+ years of local experience with freeze-thaw cycles, wind, snow, and rain unique to Wainfleet. Working with a regional installer means faster scheduling, familiarity with local building code requirements (ICC-ES ESR-1790 applies here), and warranty support without delay. The team understands how to install over existing roofs and handle the specific challenges your climate presents. Reach out today to discuss your roof and learn how the current promotion — interest-free payments for 3 months and save at least $2,499 — applies to your home.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Wainfleet’s climate?

Yes. Wainfleet averages about 97 cm of snow, 856 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 113 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
