Review: October 13, 2015

I am more hesitant because of the amount of the price drops within 24 hours of the sales pitch. It was almost $20,000 less. Just kinda set me back and really made me think about the practices of the company. It made me a little uncomfortable.

They could have improved with communication on behalf of the start date. The roof looks great and we have lots of neighbors asking us where we got it. We passed along the sales contact information.

Review: May 6, 2021Completion: March 23, 2021

This installation was a replacement of our original Interlock roof due to weather damage. Improved installation techniques and higher quality material were apparent. Although the original roof was still quite serviceable, the new roof is a definite upgrade. Unanticipated delays were encountered between delivery of material and installation which were out of Interlock’s control. Attempts to communicate with Interlock, however, were challenging. It was not clear who to contact and at least one customer service phone # was apparently out of service.

Areas where flashing needs to extend beyond a vertical surface i.e. chimney's, second story corners, you need a method to provide a more professional look when making cuts in aluminum siding. Happy with my decision to purchase a roof from Interlock. It looks great. Time will tell if it will perform as promised.

Review: June 2, 2017

After researching the various metal roof manufacturers and metal roofs in general, we chose Interlock. In addition to offering a great selection of styles, Interlock was the only company that installed their own product. I liked being able to deal with one company regardless of the issue. My wife and I are very happy with our choice and results. The curb appeal has been enhanced, and we have gotten the thumbs up from our neighbors for the great look. I am happy with the performance of the roof, and I have found everything touted about this roof to be true. We had a tremendous thunderstorm come through and a downpour that was second to none. The noise from the rain hitting the roof was quieter than on the old shingle roof. I am eagerly anticipating the summer for the cooling benefit I expect to receive. Installation of the roof was flawless. The crew was very courteous and hard-working. It was obvious they were very skilled and knew what they were doing. They took the time to do it right. I believe they treated my property as if it was their very own. Communication was exceptional, and I was kept abreast of what had been done and what was going to be done each day. I even received a call from the salesperson following up which was totally unexpected. I would not hesitate to recommend Interlock to anyone who is looking for a metal roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Big Rock

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Big Rock, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Big Rock.

Will a metal roof hold up through Big Rock's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy is engineered to flex without cracking or splitting—unlike asphalt or wood shakes. Big Rock experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days annually, and the four-way interlocking panel design accommodates this movement while the self-healing aluminum oxide layer resists oxidative stress. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) protects against seasonal weathering without deteriorating through repeated thermal cycling.

How does metal roofing handle Big Rock's snow load?

Big Rock receives roughly 77 centimeters of snow per year, and aluminum's extreme lightness—the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural upgrade is needed. Snow accumulates normally on a textured metal roof; the smooth, sloped profiles shed meltwater effectively, and optional snow guards can be installed to manage slide-off if desired. Unlike asphalt, the sealed aluminum panels won't absorb moisture or ice, preventing the ice-dam rot that damages heavier materials in regions with frequent thaw-refreeze.

Do metal roofs leak in heavy rain?

No. Big Rock averages 920 millimeters of rain annually, and the four-way interlocking seams on Interlock panels are specifically designed to shed water downslope without pooling. When installed to spec over solid decking and underlayment, the overlapped joint geometry prevents water penetration. The aluminum is non-porous and never absorbs moisture, so leaks result only from installation error—not material failure. Combined with proper gutter sizing for your roof pitch, metal interlocking panels deliver Class A weather protection.

Can metal roofing survive Big Rock's wind gusts?

Yes. Big Rock's typical wind gusts reach 105 kilometers per hour, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per spec. The four-way interlocking geometry interlocks each panel to its neighbors, creating a unified system that transfers wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design, combined with proper fastener spacing, keeps panels secure even during the occasional severe gust, with no lift or flutter.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

Almost never. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most homes can handle the load without reinforcement. This advantage also means Interlock installs directly over your existing asphalt roof, eliminating the $2,000–$5,000 tear-off cost and avoiding landfill waste. Your structural engineer may confirm the existing framing is adequate in minutes. Compare that to real tile or slate, which require expensive bracing and typically demand tear-off.

Why does aluminum roofing not rust like steel?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopically thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the base metal. If scratched during installation, this oxide layer reforms within days, preventing corrosion from spreading. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds an extra 30-year UV and moisture barrier. Big Rock's typical 19 km/h winds and 81 freeze-thaw cycles pose no corrosion risk to properly installed aluminum panels.

Will hail damage a metal roof, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock panels earn UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homeowners' premiums—though discounts vary by carrier and policy. Big Rock averages about 3,037 sunshine hours per year, so severe hail is infrequent; when it does occur, Class 4 aluminum stands up better than asphalt or wood. Document your roof's rating when filing insurance papers or requesting a renewal quote.

Do energy-efficiency metal roofs really save on cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt shingles absorb and radiate into your attic. Over 3,037 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity reduces cooling load, especially on south- and west-facing slopes. Savings depend on insulation, HVAC efficiency, and your utility rate, but Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms measurable energy reduction compared to dark asphalt. The effect compounds over the roof's 50+ year lifespan, making it relevant even in a four-season climate like Big Rock.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Upfront, metal costs more; over the roof's life, it becomes the last roof you buy. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and is transferable (50 years) to the next owner. That eliminates 2–3 tear-off cycles at $8,000–$15,000 each, plus landfill fees. At typical Big Rock labor and material rates, the cost difference pays back within 15–20 years through avoided replacement and reduced maintenance, leaving 30+ years of warranty coverage as pure savings.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Big Rock?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Big Rock area and Kane County region since 2001, combining factory training with 20+ years of local experience. They handle site assessment, custom panel ordering (choose Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, or Standing Seam profiles), installation over existing roofs, and post-install service under the Guardian Warranty. Contact them for a site visit and detailed estimate; they're equipped to navigate Big Rock's frost-thaw cycles, seasonal snow, and local building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance ensures modern code coverage).

Is a metal roof a good choice for Big Rock’s climate?

Yes. Big Rock averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
