What our customers are saying:
Interlock Roofing could not have done anything to improve, they did a fanatic job. It was a very positive experience. The installers did a great job. John called to let us know when he would come and he showed up when he said he would.
Last summer I realized I was in the need of a new roof on my old home which was built in 1876. I was hoping I could find a roof that accentuated the uniqueness and beauty of my old farm-style house. I always dreamed of owning a home with a metal roof, so I thought, well, let’s give this a look and see if it is an option. After searching for roofers and making some calls I found no one in my area offering metal roofs, needless to say, I became discouraged. Then, one day, on Facebook, I happened to see an ad with Midwest Roofing/Interlock Roofing showing the exact type of roof I was looking for!! I was so excited and called the number and was able to have an appointment arranged that very weekend. John came out, did some measuring, got up in my attic, then we sat and had a long, very informative discussion. John was extremely patient with my numerous questions and was able to explain things to me in layman’s terms, as I am not adept in the construction business, at all. So, the nitty gritty…I was originally thinking standing seam going into this whole project but then out came the slate look and oh my, that was it…The roof I had been looking for. It was exactly what needed to be on top of my house!!! And the black color just spoke to me…. John agreed!! Nowhere else had I ever seen a roof like the one I was about to have put on my beloved home. So, the price, while I knew a metal roof was going to cost more, I was looking more for security and peace of mind. I am a single parent of a child on the autism spectrum. I knew that I did not want to deal with roof issues in the future, the struggle to get a roofer to come to fix their problem, and the thought of having to replace it all over again just a few years down the road. Nope, the extra cost of this one-and-done roof was well worth it to me…after all, how do you put a price tag on peace of mind? And there aren’t many things in this world nowadays that can give you that. So, I signed the contract… The delivery…. how exciting…all these boxes lined up in my driveway…it was getting real!! Installation begins. Never in my lifetime have I met such an amazing installation crew, headed by Jesse. These guys worked tirelessly on transforming my average-looking home into the WOW home on the block. They took great care in working around my cupola and rock chimney, making sure everything was sealed where it needed to be, even reinforcing the cupola as it had been up there for so many years. These guys are not just installers, they are truly artists, and the pride in what they do shines in their workmanship. Even the care in the cleanup was amazing…very impressed. Any company can put out an amazing product, but for that product to remain amazing, that company has to have professional team members working with the customers…that is what you will get if you go with Interlock. Not just a stand-out product but a stand-out crew from sales, scheduling, and installation…it’s the whole package.
There were a few discrepancies from what John had to say and what the construction manager said. Other than that everything was pretty much the way I expected it to be, if not better.
Please make sure your sales staff is aware when products are discontinued. I'd chosen the dark green shingles for my house and garage roof. The roof over my back porch is flat and John informed me that it would be a different style of shingle but the color would be the same. Interlock, it turns out, no longer carries the dark green in this type of shingle. So now my house and garage roof are dark green and my back porch is beige.
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the final clean up and sweeping up the nails.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chemung Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Chemung Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Chemung Township.
How does a metal roof handle the snow load in Chemung Township winters?
Interlock metal panels shed snow safely without the ice-dam problems that plague asphalt shingles in freeze-thaw climates. With about 84 cm of snow per year and roughly 83 freeze-thaw days, your region experiences exactly the cycle that breaks down asphalt and traps ice at the eave. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels sit over a solid deck with underlayment, creating a slippery surface that encourages gradual melt and drainage rather than ice buildup. Snow guards are optional if you prefer controlled shedding. The lightweight Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft, so your existing framing handles the snow load without reinforcement.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens through freeze-thaw cycling, unlike asphalt and wood materials that deteriorate. Your McHenry County location experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days yearly—a classic test of roofing durability. Asphalt becomes brittle and cracks; wood shingles split and cup. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in every Interlock panel contains no iron, so it cannot rust regardless of how many times water freezes and thaws on its surface. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading to ASTM standards, handles the salt air and moisture stress of northern Illinois winters without degradation.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand the wind gusts in this area?
Yes, with a warranty to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Chemung Township experiences typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching approximately 100 km/h—within the design envelope of four-way interlocking aluminum panels. The interlocking ribs on every profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) lock panels side-to-side and front-to-back, so wind pressure cannot lift edges or cause uplift. This mechanical interlock is more reliable than fasteners alone, especially during the variable wind events common in Illinois spring and fall. Your home won't be at the mercy of your last roof installation.
Does an Interlock metal roof qualify for insurance discounts in Illinois?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofs, especially in hail-prone regions. Check with your agent about potential savings; the impact rating and Guardian Warranty coverage often justify a deductible reduction. Unlike asphalt, which bruises and leaks from hail impact within years, aluminum's hardness and flexibility resist damage without repair cycles. Over a 40-50 year roof lifespan, that durability compounds into real savings.
Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust the way steel roofs do?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopically thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. When that layer is scratched, it self-heals by reoxidizing instantly. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), the same material specified for coastal salt-air installations worldwide—from Atlantic homes to an Antarctic research station. The dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish adds further protection, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. In your climate with about 838 mm of rain annually, that difference between a metal that corrodes and one that cannot is the difference between a 50-year roof and repeated repairs.
Will my home's framing need reinforcement for a metal tile roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without additional support. Traditional tile would require expensive beam work; Interlock's aluminum version simply replaces your current covering. This advantage compounds in older homes typical of McHenry County, where adding structural support would cost thousands. The lightweight design also means faster installation (less crew fatigue on a tall ladder in wind gusts approaching 100 km/h), lower shipping costs, and easier future maintenance. You get the authentic tile aesthetic without the structural penalty.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Viewed over the full lifespan, yes. Asphalt shingles typically last 15-25 years in your climate's 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 838 mm of rain; you'll replace them two to three times over 50 years, each replacement requiring tearoff, disposal, and labor. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years total. No valleys to reseal, no granule loss to worry about each spring. Factor in the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM-measured durability), energy savings from energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance, and the avoided asphalt landfill cycles, and the single installation becomes the last roof you buy.
Can an energy-efficiency metal roof actually reduce cooling costs in Illinois?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Chemung Township receives about 3,084 sunshine hours per year; even modest reflection reduces cooling-season load, especially during the hottest months. Cool Roof Rating Council certification backs these metrics with independent testing. The reflectance advantage decreases gradually over decades (hence the 30-year coating warranty), but the savings compound. A light-colored metal roof in Illinois can lower peak attic temperatures by 10-20°F compared to dark asphalt, reducing air-conditioning runtime when outdoor heat is highest.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Asphalt requires annual gutter cleaning, flashing inspections, and regular repairs as granules shed and freeze-thaw cycles crack the surface. Wood shingles need treatment against moss and rot, especially with your area's 838 mm annual rainfall. Interlock's aluminum panels shed debris naturally, resist mold without chemical treatment, and contain no wood to split or absorb moisture. The interlocked four-way design prevents water penetration at seams, so you're not resetting flashing every few years. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Inspect gutters and clear debris as you would with any roof, but the roof itself requires no active upkeep—it simply protects your home for decades without your intervention.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in the Chemung Township area?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served McHenry County and surrounding regions since 2001, bringing over two decades of local experience to every installation. The company understands Illinois freeze-thaw cycles, the region's variable wind and snow loads, and the building codes governing McHenry County (our panels comply with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, current through 2025 IBC/IRC standards). Local installers know how to properly seat four-way interlocking panels in your climate, install snow guards if needed for your roof pitch and exposure, and handle any existing roof conditions typical of your neighborhood. Contact Interlock directly to confirm service availability and discuss which profile—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, or Standing Seam—best matches your home's architecture and your goals.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Chemung Township’s climate?
Yes. Chemung Township averages about 84 cm of snow, 838 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 100 km/h.
