| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock Roofing could not have done anything to improve, they did a fanatic job. It was a very positive experience. The installers did a great job. John called to let us know when he would come and he showed up when he said he would.
Last summer I realized I was in the need of a new roof on my old home which was built in 1876. I was hoping I could find a roof that accentuated the uniqueness and beauty of my old farm-style house. I always dreamed of owning a home with a metal roof, so I thought, well, let’s give this a look and see if it is an option. After searching for roofers and making some calls I found no one in my area offering metal roofs, needless to say, I became discouraged. Then, one day, on Facebook, I happened to see an ad with Midwest Roofing/Interlock Roofing showing the exact type of roof I was looking for!! I was so excited and called the number and was able to have an appointment arranged that very weekend. John came out, did some measuring, got up in my attic, then we sat and had a long, very informative discussion. John was extremely patient with my numerous questions and was able to explain things to me in layman’s terms, as I am not adept in the construction business, at all. So, the nitty gritty…I was originally thinking standing seam going into this whole project but then out came the slate look and oh my, that was it…The roof I had been looking for. It was exactly what needed to be on top of my house!!! And the black color just spoke to me…. John agreed!! Nowhere else had I ever seen a roof like the one I was about to have put on my beloved home. So, the price, while I knew a metal roof was going to cost more, I was looking more for security and peace of mind. I am a single parent of a child on the autism spectrum. I knew that I did not want to deal with roof issues in the future, the struggle to get a roofer to come to fix their problem, and the thought of having to replace it all over again just a few years down the road. Nope, the extra cost of this one-and-done roof was well worth it to me…after all, how do you put a price tag on peace of mind? And there aren’t many things in this world nowadays that can give you that. So, I signed the contract… The delivery…. how exciting…all these boxes lined up in my driveway…it was getting real!! Installation begins. Never in my lifetime have I met such an amazing installation crew, headed by Jesse. These guys worked tirelessly on transforming my average-looking home into the WOW home on the block. They took great care in working around my cupola and rock chimney, making sure everything was sealed where it needed to be, even reinforcing the cupola as it had been up there for so many years. These guys are not just installers, they are truly artists, and the pride in what they do shines in their workmanship. Even the care in the cleanup was amazing…very impressed. Any company can put out an amazing product, but for that product to remain amazing, that company has to have professional team members working with the customers…that is what you will get if you go with Interlock. Not just a stand-out product but a stand-out crew from sales, scheduling, and installation…it’s the whole package.
There were a few discrepancies from what John had to say and what the construction manager said. Other than that everything was pretty much the way I expected it to be, if not better.
Please make sure your sales staff is aware when products are discontinued. I'd chosen the dark green shingles for my house and garage roof. The roof over my back porch is flat and John informed me that it would be a different style of shingle but the color would be the same. Interlock, it turns out, no longer carries the dark green in this type of shingle. So now my house and garage roof are dark green and my back porch is beige.
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the final clean up and sweeping up the nails.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hebron
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hebron, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hebron.
Does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice buildup in McHenry County winters?
Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth interlocking surface actually shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt. Hebron receives about 84 cm of snow annually, and metal roofs naturally slide snow off rather than trapping moisture that leads to ice dams. The four-way interlocking panels shed water and frozen precipitation cleanly. If you want snow retention (for architectural appeal or employee safety), we install optional snow guards. The warranty covers wind gusts up to 120 mph, more than double the typical 100 km/h gusts you experience, so ice and snow load combined won't compromise the roof.
Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage a metal roof in northern Illinois?
Aluminum's composition makes it immune to freeze-thaw damage that cracks asphalt, tile, and wood. You experience about 83 freeze-thaw days yearly in Hebron—typical for McHenry County—which stresses traditional materials as moisture penetrates, freezes, and expands. Aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust or rot, so trapped water doesn't degrade it. The Alunar coating (applied to both sides) and the oxide layer self-heal when scratched, meaning seasonal expansion and contraction never weaken the material. That's why homes in coastal salt-air climates and our Antarctic research station installations stay intact for decades.
Can a metal roof rust in Illinois, especially near salt from winter roads?
Interlock panels cannot rust because they're made from 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy—which contains no iron, the element that oxidizes and rusts. Steel roofs can rust; aluminum cannot. Your location in McHenry County may experience road salt drift in winter, and Hebron averages about 838 mm of annual rain, both corrosive to steel. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel for extra salt-air protection, warranted 30 years against chalking. This dual-sided coating and aluminum's self-healing oxide layer mean your roof resists deterioration that would devastate steel or corrode fasteners on traditional roofs.
What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofs carry the highest hail rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hebron's exposure to spring and summer storms combined with about 3,084 hours of annual sunshine means hail and hard impacts are real risks. Many insurance companies recognize the Class 4 rating and offer discounts on premiums because your roof outlasts multiple asphalt replacements and survives impacts that would require repair or replacement. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification—many will credit you immediately for this non-damage-prone material.
Do I need to reinforce my roof framing to support a metal roof?
No—aluminum's exceptional lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed. The Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heaviest Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs can support metal directly, which lets you install over asphalt without tear-off, saving labor and waste. In Hebron, with about 84 cm of snow and typical wind gusts around 100 km/h, this light weight is an advantage: less load means less strain during seasonal weather and fewer risks to your home's structural integrity. That's why Antarctic research stations and coastal homes use Interlock—proven in extreme conditions where weight matters most.
How does a metal roof perform in Illinois wind and storms?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—nearly double Hebron's typical gusts around 100 km/h and well above the extreme gust speeds you encounter seasonally. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that won't lift or separate in storms. This engineering, combined with the lightweight design, means wind pressure is distributed across the entire roof assembly rather than concentrated on fasteners or seams. McHenry County's spring and fall storms are common, and your metal roof will remain intact while asphalt shingles or tiles may tear, lift, or leak under the same wind loads.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt requires regular inspection and gutter cleaning as it degrades; wood needs recoating and repair from moisture; tile cracks and requires replacement. Interlock aluminum sheds debris naturally, resists algae and moss (unlike asphalt in humid climates), and the Alunar coating doesn't chalk or fade for 30 years, verified to ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards. In Hebron's 838 mm annual rainfall and 84 cm snow, your metal roof self-cleans and drains completely. Annual gutter inspection is your only maintenance, and you'll never climb on your roof to scrape, patch, or seal it. CALGreen certification confirms reduced maintenance burden.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes—aluminum is about 95% recyclable, and at end of life (50+ years from now), your roof enters the recycling stream, not a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are typically torn off every 15–20 years in Hebron's climate and disposed of, beginning a wasteful cycle you'd repeat 2–3 times in 50 years. Aluminum requires no petroleum-based adhesives or granules, and manufacturing aluminum from recycled content uses far less energy than virgin extraction. energy-efficient colors reflect heat (initial solar reflectance up to 0.55), reducing air-conditioning demand during Hebron's sunnier months (about 3,084 hours annually). One aluminum roof ends the tear-off cycle permanently.
Is there a local installer in Hebron who can service my metal roof?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served McHenry County and the surrounding region since 2001, with deep expertise in residential and commercial installations across northern Illinois. We understand local conditions—the mix of 838 mm rain, 84 cm snow, about 83 freeze-thaw cycles, and wind gusts reaching 100 km/h—and have engineered and installed roofs that thrive here. Our team is familiar with Hebron's building codes (all Interlock products carry ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation, reissued 2025), local inspector requirements, and the specific challenges of McHenry County homes. We're available for consultation, installation, and warranty service without outsourcing to distant contractors.
Is a metal roof fire-safe, and does it qualify for insurance discounts?
Interlock aluminum roofs are Class A fire-rated and non-combustible—aluminum is a non-organic material that cannot ignite or spread flame. This exceeds the fire safety of asphalt (Class C at best) and wood shake, and meets the toughest building codes. Many insurers offer discounts for non-combustible roofing because the risk of ignition and spread is eliminated. If your home is near a wildland interface or in a fire-prone area, Class A rating strengthens your property resilience and may lower premiums. All Interlock profiles meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 requirements and comply with IBC/IRC fire codes nationwide. Aluminum's incombustibility is a permanent safety feature that never degrades.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Hebron’s climate?
Yes. Hebron averages about 84 cm of snow, 838 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 100 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
