Review: May 22, 2012Completion: June 11, 2004

Our roof was completed last month, and I cannot tell you how many compliments we have already received. We feel that this is one investment in our house that will really pay off because, with the Interlock roof, there is no worry about how long it is going to last. The quality of this product and the professional way in which it was installed proves that this is a company that cares about its customers. We have seen other homes in our area getting new roofs and dreaded the mess that came with this type of work. One home even had what we called “the loan roofer” doing the job. One man did not only to tear down of the roof but the installation of a new roof. And this was in poor weather when it was vital to get that roof on quickly. But with Interlock, we had at least 5 to 6 men on the job daily, working long hours. Our property was covered so that nothing got damaged during the teardown and every scrap was picked up and removed by the workers. We highly recommend your company and are very satisfied with the professional manner of your employees. With our Interlock roof, we have the security of knowing that this product is completely guaranteed.

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

I think the product will speak for itself. Obviously the cost is higher than the price for asphalt. I thought the crew did a great job and I will recommend to anyone who inquires Communication could have been better. Coordination between my general contractor and an install supervisor would have made things smoother

They could improve by being prepared with their permit before starting the job.

Review: June 26, 2017Completion: August 31, 2016

The end of the project. No one told me when the project was going to be finished. It just so happened I came home from work early that day; but, I had to leave before the workers were to finish. The on-site manager told me I had to sign off on the work and give him the check. Previously, I had been told that I would not have to sign anything or submit final payment until I had an opportunity to inspect the finished work. Big difference between what I was told would happen and what actually happened.

I absolutely love my metal roof! It takes my home up ecstaticlly up 10 notches!!! Everything was great! The only thing I wish is adding more vents. I think the sales person should suggest how many a home should have.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Riverside

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Riverside, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Riverside.

Will a metal roof handle North Riverside's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting. With about 82 freeze-thaw days per year in Cook County, your roof needs material that won't degrade. Aluminum's non-corrosive 3105-H24 alloy and four-way interlocking panels move as one system, staying sealed even through repeated temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) protects against the salt and moisture that accelerate damage in freeze-thaw climates, making it fundamentally different from asphalt or wood.

How does Interlock handle North Riverside winters with snow load and ice dams?

Interlock's lightweight design (the Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow load is never a structural concern—you'll need no reinforcement. The four-way interlocking seams create a tight surface that resists water infiltration during thaw cycles. Cook County averages about 73 cm of snow per year; metal's smooth, low-friction surface also naturally sheds snow and ice, reducing ice-dam buildup along eaves. Optional snow guards can be added for architectural interest or to control melt-water runoff.

Is Interlock Metal Roofing secure in Chicago-area wind storms?

Completely. The panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec, and North Riverside's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h. Four-way interlocking holds each panel locked on all four edges, meaning wind cannot peel or lift a single panel. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards. During the heavy gusts common to Cook County springs, your roof stays sealed and secure—no loosened flashing, no lifted shingles.

Why won't an Interlock aluminum roof rust like steel roofs in a humid climate?

No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and degrades. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that seals against moisture and salt. With North Riverside's annual rainfall around 993 mm and seasonal freeze-thaw moisture, this matters enormously. Steel roofs oxidize in those conditions; aluminum grows more durable. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides, 30-year warranty) adds a second defense layer, meaning your roof's integrity strengthens rather than weakens over decades.

How does Interlock prevent leaks during heavy Cook County rainstorms?

Four-way interlocking and a solid deck with underlayment create overlapping barriers that shed water reliably. North Riverside receives about 993 mm of rain annually; traditional asphalt shingles overlap in only one direction and rely on gravity alone. Interlock's panels lock on all four sides, and water is physically directed away from seams. The profile design (choose Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, or Standing Seam) channels water downslope without ponding. Installation over your existing roof adds an extra moisture buffer, and there's no exposed fastener head to create a leak point.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for an Interlock metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than the materials it resembles. North Riverside homes built for asphalt shingles have more than enough load capacity. Because Interlock installs over most existing roofs without tear-off, your home carries less total weight after the old roof is removed. Installers can confirm your deck's condition; in nearly all Cook County homes, the structure is already adequate.

What hail protection does Interlock offer, and will it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock earns UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 aluminum is non-combustible and absorbs impact without cracking or denting like asphalt or slate. Some Illinois insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofing; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating. With Cook County's spring thunderstorms and summer convection, impact resistance pays real dividends. The one-time cost of upgrading often returns through lower premiums and, more importantly, a roof that survives where others fail.

Will an Interlock metal roof keep my home cooler in summer?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors have solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat instead of absorbing it like asphalt. North Riverside enjoys about 3,051 sunshine hours yearly; reflective roofing measurably reduces air-conditioning load during warm months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the performance. Dark asphalt can reach 160°F on a sunny day; reflective metal stays significantly cooler. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cooling energy saved offsets installation cost—and your home stays more comfortable without constant AC cycling.

What warranty comes with Interlock, and how long will the roof last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale appeal. No annual maintenance is required to keep the warranty valid. Aluminum's non-corrosive nature and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty mean degradation is extremely slow; homes installed since 1998 in climates as harsh as coastal salt air and Antarctic research stations confirm 25+ year real-world durability. In North Riverside's moderate climate, a longer lifespan is realistic.

Is an Interlock metal roof maintenance-free compared to asphalt or wood?

Essentially yes. Asphalt shingles require inspection every 2-3 years, repairs for curling or loss, and moss/algae treatment in damp climates. Wood shakes need sealing, shave-off, and replacement every 15-20 years. Tile and slate require repointing, repair of cracks, and moss control. Interlock requires only occasional debris clearing from valleys and gutters—the same as any roof. The non-porous, non-combustible aluminum won't split, curl, rot, or support moss growth. North Riverside's 993 mm annual rain and 82 freeze-thaw days won't degrade the material itself. You get CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance performance, meaning lower lifetime cost of ownership and peace of mind.

Is a metal roof a good choice for North Riverside’s climate?

Yes. North Riverside averages about 73 cm of snow, 993 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
