Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for McCook, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The Interlock team was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Undertaking the re-roof of a 108-year-old home is a major process and investment. After speaking to many other roofers, we realized that Interlock offered the best value proposition, and we felt like they were going to be able to deliver on what they promised. Our salesperson, John Mondschean displayed his extensive experience in roofing by taking the time to listen to our goals, preferences and concerns, offering solutions and working with us to achieve the desired outcome. John was responsive to every request and stuck with us even after the contract was signed. We appreciated that he was always available to answer questions, give us updates and even bring color samples over one afternoon for us to double-check our selection. John embodies integrity and service. We were aware that due to current market conditions, we might have to wait a while for our materials to be delivered; however, Interlock exceeded our expectations and was able to get the materials to us a touch earlier than promised and started the installation within three days after delivery. The day the materials were delivered, we met Jesse, the lead installer who we worked with throughout the project. Jesse was awesome in explaining all the steps to the re-roof and answering our questions along the way. He took lots of pictures for us and explained how he would address our specific concerns like adding ventilation, condition of the chimney, placement of snow guards and ensuring that the construction didn’t negatively impact our neighbors. It was clear that Jesse has been installing Interlock roofing for a long time and is a true craftsman who takes pride in the quality of his work. Jesse and his crew went above and beyond to ensure that our neighbors landscaping, A/C units and other areas were properly protected. They also ensured that our property was well protected throughout, cleaned up every day and that they left the job site in great condition once the work was finished. We give the crew excellent ratings for the overall job they did on our new roof. We are very happy with the new roof and have recommended Interlock Roofing to several of our friends and neighbors. It is awesome to have everyone on the block comment on how nice the new roof looks. It really has improved our home’s durability, value and curb appeal. We would work with John, Jesse and the entire team again! They delivered on what they promised!
Dear John, I wish I had known about the Interlock Roofing System before I put the last new roof on twenty years ago. If I had, I would not have had to replace it again now. At least now I won’t need to worry about the roof ever again because of the lifetime limited warranty with its 50-year transferable and non-prorated features. When I first suggested to my wife that we consider a metal roof, she was concerned about the noise level during storms. This concern disappeared after the first storm as the noise level was much less than before the metal roof was installed. Speaking of installation, we were very happy with the way your installation crew did their job. They were careful with our landscaping and cleaned up each day and when they finished and left, the only sign of their having been there was the new roof itself. The new Interlock roof looks great, and we have been complimented on it by many neighbors as well as people passing by. Our home insurance company was also happy with the new roof and its Class 4 hail-impact-resistant rating, which will give us a discount on the insurance premium. We are very satisfied with the entire process of getting a new roof installed. From the initial discussion with the sales representative, the installation crew, and the final results, there were no surprises. We will also be very happy twenty years from now when we don’t have to put another roof on the house.
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in McCook
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in McCook, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in McCook.
Will a metal roof hold up through McCook's winter freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually improves in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no pores to trap water and expand. Cook County sees about 82 freeze-thaw days per year, and that repeated stress breaks down asphalt and wood shingles from the inside out. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so micro-damage never becomes a leak point. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels was designed for exactly this climate pattern and has performed without failure since 1998 across installations from coastal salt air to Antarctic research stations.
How does Interlock metal roofing handle McCook's annual snowfall?
The four-way interlocking design sheds snow efficiently without ice dam buildup, and the roof's weight won't trigger structural failure even under heavy load. McCook averages about 73 cm of snow yearly, and metal's smooth surface allows that snow to slide safely if conditions warm. The panels weigh just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most homes need zero structural reinforcement. This means your existing roof frame handles the snow burden without compromise, unlike heavy tile systems that demand expensive structural upgrades.
Can a metal roof withstand McCook's winter and summer wind gusts?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well beyond the 97 km/h gusts Cook County typically experiences. This overlap design locks panels at all four corners, not just two, so wind can't peel or lift the roof during the strong gusts that follow severe weather. That warranty applies as long as panels are installed to specification, giving you protection that matches or exceeds what asphalt can offer—but without the curling edges that invite wind damage.
Why doesn't aluminum rust, and why does that matter for my roof?
Aluminum contains no iron, so rust—which is iron oxide—is physically impossible. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that actually protects the material underneath and self-heals when scratched. Steel roofs rust because iron oxidizes; copper and steel corrode in salt air. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, plus a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years against chalking. In Cook County's ~993 mm annual rainfall, that protection means no rust stains, no structural degradation, and no warranty surprises.
Does a metal roof really survive hail, and will my insurance reward it?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That independent third-party test means insurance carriers take it seriously; many offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated metal roofs. Aluminum's hardness doesn't crack or shatter under impact the way slate or clay tile does. Cook County's severe weather season puts hail risk on every roof; choosing a material rated for the worst-case impact keeps claims off the table and your coverage costs down.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time or dollar limit. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, protecting your home's resale value. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998, so real-world roofs are now 26 years old and still performing. Compare that to asphalt shingles (15–20 years before replacement) or wood shake (20–30 years with constant maintenance), and you're looking at the last roof you'll ever buy.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires almost none. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection, gutter cleaning every few years, and replacement of damaged sections; wood shake demands annual treatment, re-nailing, and moss control. Interlock aluminum simply sheds dirt and debris—the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. With 993 mm of annual rainfall in Cook County, water naturally cleans the roof; you won't need pressure washing or chemical treatments. The four-way interlocking design prevents leaks that plague traditional materials, so there's no emergency patching, no aging fasteners to replace, and no structural surprises.
Can Interlock metal roofing install over my existing asphalt roof, and how long does it take?
Yes—aluminum's lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) installs directly over existing asphalt shingles on most homes without structural reinforcement. The local Interlock installer has served the region since 2001 and manages the roof tear-off only if structural damage or local code requires it. Installation timeline typically runs 2–5 business days for a residential roof, depending on home size and complexity. Going over existing shingles saves landfill waste, avoids disruption, and cuts labor cost—so you get your new roof faster and keep the old material out of the 993 mm annual precipitation cycle that would otherwise accelerate decay in a landfill.
Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes—aluminum is about 95% recyclable, and Interlock ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. Every time you replace an asphalt roof, tons of material goes to landfill where it breaks down over decades and leaches binders into groundwater. Aluminum, by contrast, retains value and gets recovered and re-melted infinitely without losing properties. Over McCook's 993 mm annual rainfall and ~3,051 sunshine hours, an asphalt roof degrades continuously; an aluminum roof lasts a lifetime. The math is simple: one installation forever beats repeated tear-offs and hauling.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
On pure lifecycle cost, metal wins decisively. Asphalt costs less up front but requires replacement every 15–20 years; you'll buy 2–3 asphalt roofs in the time one Interlock metal roof lasts. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated, so there's no surprise bill at year 25. Add zero maintenance (versus asphalt gutter cleaning and patching), potential insurance discounts for the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, and lower cooling costs from reflective coatings, and you're not choosing between cheap and durable—you're choosing between one payment and three. For a homeowner staying put, or selling, a metal roof pays for itself against the replacement cycle.
