Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hodgkins, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The Interlock team was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Undertaking the re-roof of a 108-year-old home is a major process and investment. After speaking to many other roofers, we realized that Interlock offered the best value proposition, and we felt like they were going to be able to deliver on what they promised. Our salesperson, John Mondschean displayed his extensive experience in roofing by taking the time to listen to our goals, preferences and concerns, offering solutions and working with us to achieve the desired outcome. John was responsive to every request and stuck with us even after the contract was signed. We appreciated that he was always available to answer questions, give us updates and even bring color samples over one afternoon for us to double-check our selection. John embodies integrity and service. We were aware that due to current market conditions, we might have to wait a while for our materials to be delivered; however, Interlock exceeded our expectations and was able to get the materials to us a touch earlier than promised and started the installation within three days after delivery. The day the materials were delivered, we met Jesse, the lead installer who we worked with throughout the project. Jesse was awesome in explaining all the steps to the re-roof and answering our questions along the way. He took lots of pictures for us and explained how he would address our specific concerns like adding ventilation, condition of the chimney, placement of snow guards and ensuring that the construction didn’t negatively impact our neighbors. It was clear that Jesse has been installing Interlock roofing for a long time and is a true craftsman who takes pride in the quality of his work. Jesse and his crew went above and beyond to ensure that our neighbors landscaping, A/C units and other areas were properly protected. They also ensured that our property was well protected throughout, cleaned up every day and that they left the job site in great condition once the work was finished. We give the crew excellent ratings for the overall job they did on our new roof. We are very happy with the new roof and have recommended Interlock Roofing to several of our friends and neighbors. It is awesome to have everyone on the block comment on how nice the new roof looks. It really has improved our home’s durability, value and curb appeal. We would work with John, Jesse and the entire team again! They delivered on what they promised!
Dear John, I wish I had known about the Interlock Roofing System before I put the last new roof on twenty years ago. If I had, I would not have had to replace it again now. At least now I won’t need to worry about the roof ever again because of the lifetime limited warranty with its 50-year transferable and non-prorated features. When I first suggested to my wife that we consider a metal roof, she was concerned about the noise level during storms. This concern disappeared after the first storm as the noise level was much less than before the metal roof was installed. Speaking of installation, we were very happy with the way your installation crew did their job. They were careful with our landscaping and cleaned up each day and when they finished and left, the only sign of their having been there was the new roof itself. The new Interlock roof looks great, and we have been complimented on it by many neighbors as well as people passing by. Our home insurance company was also happy with the new roof and its Class 4 hail-impact-resistant rating, which will give us a discount on the insurance premium. We are very satisfied with the entire process of getting a new roof installed. From the initial discussion with the sales representative, the installation crew, and the final results, there were no surprises. We will also be very happy twenty years from now when we don’t have to put another roof on the house.
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hodgkins
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hodgkins, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hodgkins.
Will a metal roof handle Hodgkins' freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or degrading?
Aluminum roofing excels in freeze-thaw environments because the metal itself doesn't absorb moisture and cannot rot or split like wood or asphalt. With about 82 freeze-thaw days per year in Cook County and roughly 73 cm of annual snow, your roof experiences extreme seasonal stress—but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the four-way interlocking panels accommodate expansion without compromising integrity. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking, protects the aluminum through decades of temperature swings.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in northern Illinois winters?
Metal roofing's extremely light weight—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, yet the four-way interlocking panels provide superior wind and load distribution. Hodgkins receives about 73 cm of snow annually with typical winter gusts to 97 km/h, so the engineered interlocking system resists both vertical snow weight and lateral wind pressure. Unlike asphalt, smooth metal promotes faster ice melt and water drainage, reducing ice dam formation and the water intrusion that rots traditional roofs.
Can a metal roof rust? Why do aluminum roofs outlast steel?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the culprit that makes steel corrode. Instead, aluminum forms a thin protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, which is especially valuable in the Midwest's humid, freeze-thaw climate where salt and moisture accelerate rust on steel alternatives. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is backed by the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides—extra protection that lasts 30 years—making corrosion literally impossible. After 25+ years of installations from coastal salt-air to Antarctica, Interlock aluminum roofs show no rust whatsoever.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without additional framing. Even the heavier profiles like Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft are negligible compared to traditional materials. This lightweight advantage means lower installation costs, faster work, and the ability to reroof without expensive structural upgrades. Interlock's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms these panels meet building code requirements without reinforcement, a major cost and timeline benefit for Hodgkins homeowners.
How well does interlocking metal roofing resist wind in Hodgkins?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above Hodgkins' typical gusts of 97 km/h and far exceeding the 19 km/h average winds. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors in four directions, distributing wind pressure across the roof system rather than loading individual fasteners. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and wind warranty provide insurance-grade confidence in severe weather, so winter and spring storms—common in Cook County—won't compromise your roof's integrity or void coverage.
Does metal roofing qualify for hail damage discounts, and how durable is it in storms?
Aluminum metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest available hail impact rating—and Interlock's warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, Class A fire-rated material demonstrates extreme durability that many insurers recognize, potentially lowering your premium. In regions with frequent hail events, homeowners often recoup the initial cost difference through insurance savings alone. While Hodgkins experiences moderate severe weather, the combination of impact resistance and Class A fire rating makes metal roofing an attractive risk-mitigation choice for lenders and insurers.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt shingles or tile?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or tile. Asphalt shingles degrade in the sun, curl in freeze-thaw cycles, collect moss, and need regular inspection; tile cracks under impact and requires sealing. Aluminum doesn't absorb moisture, won't split or curl despite Hodgkins' 82 annual freeze-thaw days, and the smooth surface sheds debris and snow better. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists fading and chalking for 30 years, meaning you won't refinish or reseal the roof. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, translating to decades of minimal attention and lower lifetime cost.
Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in the summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Hodgkins receives about 3,051 sunshine hours yearly, so reflective coatings meaningfully reduce attic and interior temperatures during warm months. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the energy benefit—lower cooling loads mean smaller AC cycles, reduced strain on equipment, and measurable utility savings. While Hodgkins winters are long, reflective metal still provides year-round benefits by managing indoor temperature swings.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over a 50-year lifespan?
Metal roofing costs more initially but becomes the last roof you install. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years; in a 50-year period, you'll buy three or four new asphalt roofs plus multiple maintenance and repair cycles. Interlock's Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, 50-year transfer for the next owner) eliminates that replacement expense. Factor in lower maintenance, potential insurance savings from Class A and UL 2218 Class 4 ratings, reduced energy costs during Hodgkins' 3,051 annual sunshine hours, and avoided roof leaks in 993 mm of annual rainfall—the total cost of ownership favors metal decisively over the decades.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Hodgkins, and how experienced is the local team?
Interlock Metal Roofing, the manufacturer and installer, has served the region since 2001—more than two decades of local experience with Cook County's climate and building codes. The factory-trained installation team understands Hodgkins' freeze-thaw demands (82 days annually), seasonal snow loads (73 cm/year), and typical wind gusts (97 km/h), ensuring every roof is installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification. Choosing the manufacturer's own installation crew means you're backed by the company behind the product, with direct accountability for warranty coverage and performance. This local expertise combined with the Guardian lifetime warranty gives you peace of mind from project start through decades of ownership.
