Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for La Grange Highlands, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
The Interlock team was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Undertaking the re-roof of a 108-year-old home is a major process and investment. After speaking to many other roofers, we realized that Interlock offered the best value proposition, and we felt like they were going to be able to deliver on what they promised. Our salesperson, John Mondschean displayed his extensive experience in roofing by taking the time to listen to our goals, preferences and concerns, offering solutions and working with us to achieve the desired outcome. John was responsive to every request and stuck with us even after the contract was signed. We appreciated that he was always available to answer questions, give us updates and even bring color samples over one afternoon for us to double-check our selection. John embodies integrity and service. We were aware that due to current market conditions, we might have to wait a while for our materials to be delivered; however, Interlock exceeded our expectations and was able to get the materials to us a touch earlier than promised and started the installation within three days after delivery. The day the materials were delivered, we met Jesse, the lead installer who we worked with throughout the project. Jesse was awesome in explaining all the steps to the re-roof and answering our questions along the way. He took lots of pictures for us and explained how he would address our specific concerns like adding ventilation, condition of the chimney, placement of snow guards and ensuring that the construction didn’t negatively impact our neighbors. It was clear that Jesse has been installing Interlock roofing for a long time and is a true craftsman who takes pride in the quality of his work. Jesse and his crew went above and beyond to ensure that our neighbors landscaping, A/C units and other areas were properly protected. They also ensured that our property was well protected throughout, cleaned up every day and that they left the job site in great condition once the work was finished. We give the crew excellent ratings for the overall job they did on our new roof. We are very happy with the new roof and have recommended Interlock Roofing to several of our friends and neighbors. It is awesome to have everyone on the block comment on how nice the new roof looks. It really has improved our home’s durability, value and curb appeal. We would work with John, Jesse and the entire team again! They delivered on what they promised!
Dear John, I wish I had known about the Interlock Roofing System before I put the last new roof on twenty years ago. If I had, I would not have had to replace it again now. At least now I won’t need to worry about the roof ever again because of the lifetime limited warranty with its 50-year transferable and non-prorated features. When I first suggested to my wife that we consider a metal roof, she was concerned about the noise level during storms. This concern disappeared after the first storm as the noise level was much less than before the metal roof was installed. Speaking of installation, we were very happy with the way your installation crew did their job. They were careful with our landscaping and cleaned up each day and when they finished and left, the only sign of their having been there was the new roof itself. The new Interlock roof looks great, and we have been complimented on it by many neighbors as well as people passing by. Our home insurance company was also happy with the new roof and its Class 4 hail-impact-resistant rating, which will give us a discount on the insurance premium. We are very satisfied with the entire process of getting a new roof installed. From the initial discussion with the sales representative, the installation crew, and the final results, there were no surprises. We will also be very happy twenty years from now when we don’t have to put another roof on the house.
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in La Grange Highlands
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in La Grange Highlands, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in La Grange Highlands.
How does metal roofing handle La Grange Highlands' snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt shingles because the smooth surface resists ice adhesion and snow sticks less readily. With about 73 cm of snow per year and roughly 82 freeze-thaw days, your roof experiences repeated expansion and contraction—aluminum flexes without cracking, while asphalt becomes brittle. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no snow load risk to framing, and the panels' sealed interlocks prevent melt-water penetration during the thaw cycles that plague shingle roofs.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Cook County damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum has no iron content—it cannot rust or rot when exposed to moisture and temperature swings. The 3105-H24 alloy expands and contracts uniformly without the stress fractures that crack asphalt shingles or delaminate wood. With 82 annual freeze-thaw days here, that durability matters. The Alunar PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) provides a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so salt spray, seasonal temperature shifts, and repeated ice melt won't degrade the surface.
Does aluminum roofing rust like steel metal roofing?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts when exposed to moisture and salt. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. In a climate with about 993 mm of annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycling, that distinction is critical: a steel roof requires ongoing maintenance to prevent rust stains and perforation, while Interlock aluminum remains structurally sound and visually clean for decades without rust treatment.
Can metal roofing withstand Cook County wind gusts and storms?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. La Grange Highlands experiences typical daily winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching 97 km/h—well within that rated envelope. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof structure rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This design has proven effective in coastal salt-air environments and Antarctic research stations, so regional storm gusts pose no risk to panel integrity or fastening.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than traditional slate, clay, or concrete tile. Most existing roofs can support the weight without modification. This lightweight advantage matters in older homes common to the region, where adding heavy roofing can stress rafters and joists. You can install Interlock over most existing asphalt shingle roofs, eliminating costly tear-off and structural upgrades. The panels meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards for residential roofs without special framing, saving thousands in labor and materials.
Does hail damage metal roofing, and could this lower my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction often qualifies for insurance discounts because it eliminates the damage risk that drives asphalt shingle claims. Many insurers recognize the durability advantage and offer premium reductions for impact-rated metal roofs. In Cook County's variable spring and summer weather, that combination of proven hail resistance and potential insurance savings can recoup a meaningful portion of your initial investment over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, giving buyers confidence in the home's roof integrity. With no iron content and a 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D2244 fade/chalking standards), the panels remain watertight and corrosion-free through decades of La Grange Highlands' rain, snow, and freeze-thaw cycling. This is the last roof you will buy.
Is metal roofing worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's lifetime, metal roofing costs less. Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years in freeze-thaw climates; Interlock lasts 50+ years. Two or three asphalt replacements, plus tear-off labor and landfill disposal, exceed the upfront cost of one metal installation. Interlock requires minimal maintenance—no algae treatment, no seasonal gutter cleaning, no repairs from ice dams—lowering your annual expenses. With about 993 mm of rain and 82 freeze-thaw days per year here, asphalt deteriorates faster. The Guardian's transferable warranty and non-prorated coverage mean resale value protection and lower long-term insurance risk. The math strongly favors metal.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require?
Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles, which need algae treatment, moss removal, and seasonal inspection, aluminum panels don't crack, curl, or rot. The sealed interlocks prevent water intrusion, eliminating ice dam damage and mold growth common in freeze-thaw climates. No fasteners loosen because the four-way locking system distributes stress uniformly. Occasional gutter clearing is all that's necessary—the same task any roof requires. Over 50+ years and through La Grange Highlands' 993 mm annual rainfall and 82 freeze-thaw cycles, you'll avoid the costly repairs and roof-access labor that consume asphalt owners' time and budgets.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable—at end of life, the panels return to the aluminum supply chain for reuse. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually because they cannot be recycled. A 50-year Interlock roof means only one installation cycle versus two or three asphalt replacements, each requiring tear-off labor, truck transport, and landfill space. With La Grange Highlands' 993 mm annual rainfall accelerating asphalt degradation, choosing metal eliminates multiple landfill deposits over your home's ownership. The panels are also CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance burden, lowering your home's environmental footprint across decades.
